This was the summer before they all went of to college. Bekah had been in the same friend group since freshman year. They’d done everything together, summer vacations with each other’s family, spring break hangouts in the basement, lunches together, studying, everything. They had basically grown up together. This was the summer before they all went their separate ways. Everyone was scattering all over the United States.
They were all from a small town about two hours outside of Nashville. They grew up a normal small town country life. Her own mother had died when she was sixteen years old. Cancer had taken her way to soon, had it not been for her group of friends, and their parents even, she wouldn’t have made it through that time. She was almost eighteen now, she was still grieving for her mother. A Day didn’t go by that she didn’t think about her.
It was the end of June, they had all decided that they wanted to spend their last summer month, which included Fourth of July, in Panama City Beach. Some of them had scored fake ids, so they were ready for the best summer of their lives... until a thunderstorm hit. The roads had been shut down due to flash flooding in Alabama. Thankfully she had made it though before it happened. She was now arriving at the house by herself. She thought she was all alone until she seen the Chevy truck. She climbed out of her Altima and went to unlock the door.
Evette just turned nineteen years old and she was planning one last amazing summer with her small group of friends. She was accepted into the best Art school that ever was. Yale University was her dream school and when she had gotten the acceptance letter she felt like her whole life was finally starting. She was going to be letting the other's know while they were at their little get away weekend. The purple haired female wandered out of her bedroom and down the hall to her parents room and knocked on the closed door. “I'm heading out now. I love you both” she called through the door.
Her parents called out they loved her as well. She then made her way to her beat up beetle and slid in behind the wheel. She heard there was supposed to be a huge storm rolling in and she hoped that she would be able to miss it. She pulled out of the driveway and headed to the freeway. She rolled the windows down, turned up the volume on the radio and turned on Coheed and Cambria for the drive. She was getting more and more excited for the next couple of weeks ahead.
She had the booze in the trunk of her car thanks to her dad, along with all of her other bags and goodies for the little getaway. When she pulled off the freeway and headed towards the cabin was when the rain really hit. She was glad she had missed it by mere minutes it seemed like. When she turned onto the gravel drive she spotted Bekah pulling in as well. She pulled up behind the woman's car and shut the car off. She climbed out, grabbed as much as she could and walked up behind her grinning.
“Bekah! I see you and I both made it before the storm. I'm not sure about the other's though..” she admitted. She set the ice chest down and waited for the other woman to open the door. She wasn't about to hold that heavy thing. She coudln't wait to tell the other's about getting accepted into Yale. This was going to be the best summer ever.
Bekah heard someone else pull into the gravel drive, and she grinned when she realized the car behind hers was Eve.. She hadn't really seen any of her friends this summer so far since her Father wanted to take her on her graduation present, just the two of them trip. They ended up going up to New York for a few days and then down to Washington DC. Her Father had helped her find an apartment that was in budget for her first year of College as well. He was a Doctor, so of course he snuck some work conferences in there as well.
"Hey Eve!" she said as she ran to open the door so she could carry the cooler inside. "How was your drive? Yeah- I spoke to Ashley and everyone and they got stuck by a mudslide or something, so it looks like it will just be us for a few more days." It wasn't exactly how they had all planned the first night of vacation, but she was sure they could make the best of it. “My Father did say that he would spring for a few more nights since the storm ruined it for us… Do you think your parents would be cool with that?
Eve wrinkled her nose lightly and nodded a bit. She understood how storms worked. They weren't always the best. She was just kind of worried about Ashely and the rest of them. She was about to lift the cooler when Bekah beat her to it. She picked up her bags and walked into the cabin behind her as the woman spoke. “The drive wasn't too bad. Got in some Coheed and Cambria and just tried to beat the storm out. Other than that it wasn't too bad at all” she said as she walked into the cabin and set her bags down.
She took the cooler from Bekah and carried it into the kitchen catching the tail end of what she was saying. Would her parents be okay with it? Hell yes they would. They got rid of her for a while anyway. She looked over her should and grinned as she put the bottles of booze, water, soda, and juice into the fridge. “That's perfectly fine. Momma and daddy were wondering what I would do the rest of the summer anyway before I went off to college” she said lightly. When the cooler was empty she set it under the kitchen table for now.
“How was the drive for you? Did you and your dad get what you needed done?” she asked as she pulled out a kitchen chair and sat down. It was strange with just the two of them here. She didn't know how she felt about it honestly. She bit her lower lip lightly as she watched the female. The two had been close as thieves and she was glad they would have this one on one time, but she couldn't wait for the other's to arrive as well. “What do you wanna eat? I'm cooking dinner tonight” she said as she stay where she was for the time being.
"That works out pefectly then! Maybe I can talk him into giving us another week then!" she said as she leaned against the kitchen counter, watching as Eve put all her drinks away. "Someone came prepared."
She and Eve used to be the best friends of the group, like they were never seperated. But then when Bekah had started dating Quinn from NorthEast High, no one really liked her, so they kind of kept to themselves until they broke up. She was excited to be single this summer. Bekah migrated back into the group after they had broken up. No one asked questions, which she was thankful for.
“I made it through literally right before the storm came through, I got caught in some rain but other than that the drive was really easy.” Eve was biting her lip. She couldn't help but watch her, she was beautiful. “Your famous mac and cheese. Please.” she begged. “You haven't made it for me in so long!”
Eve sat there listening to the woman speaking. She was glad that she had made it. A small smirk passed over her lips as her eyes flitted to the fridge. “I mean we had to have drinks right? Daddy wouldn't let me leave without them. Momma was a little upset about it, but that's how momma always is.” she said with a small laugh. She was glad that Bekah was back in the group. It was hard not having the woman around to talk too. The two had been attached at the hip, but when Quinn came into the picture it was like Bekah had changed.
She cocked her head to the side and grinned. “I'm on it. My famous mac & cheese coming right up” she said as she stood. She went back out to the living room and she kicked off her shoes. She then looked out the window and nodded towards the cars. “You might want to go and grab your things and bring them inside. My stuff's already inside” she said as she made her way back into the kitchen. Her eyes moved towards Bekah again and her heart skipped a beat. Bekah had changed a lot since she had last seen her.
She walked up to the woman and hugged her quickly. “I'm so glad you're back. I've missed my best friend" she whispered into the other's ear. She meant it too. She didn't have Bekah to talk too, she had tried dating at one point but it didn't work and all she had wanted to do was call Bekah up. She had tried a couple times but Quinn had answered and said that Bekah didn't want to talk to her. That had been the worst feeling ever. So when she had found out things had ended she was over the moon with joy.
She pulled away from the woman and went to the cupboards and started pulling things out and started heating up the water for the noodles.
"Your Dad has always been the most laid back. But you've always been responsible." She glanced out the window and it looked like it was going to start raining. "You're right. I'm going to get my stuff before it comes a big storm." she said, glacing out at the ocean again. "The water looks rough."
She was stunned as Eve walked up and wrapped her arms around her. "I missed you. I'm sorry for everything.. Quinn.. It was difficult." she tried to explain. Smiling weakly, she headed outside to get her suitcase and duffle bag.
After she went back inside, she went ahead and headed upstairs. Since they were here first, they would have first pick on the rooms. But there was one problem. There was one less bedroom that the online ad had described. Throwing her bags in the master bedroom, which had a balcony, she headed back downstairs. “Up for a sleep over? The ad lied.”
Eve smiled lightly and agreed. She was always the one with a leval head anyway. When Bekah mentioned the water outside she looked out the window and sighed. So much for hitting the beach and going swimming. That would have to wait for the storm to pass. She turned her attention back to the noodles as Bekah went and got her bags from the car. When Bekah was back asking about a sleepover she was slightly confused. She was about to ask what she meant when the words left Bekah's lips. The ad had lied. Of course it did.. It was too good to be true.
She turned and looked at the other woman. “I mean I'm down. As long as you don't mind me just sleeping in my panties and bra. I don't really like extra clothes to be honest” She would add some extra clothes if Bekah wanted, she didn't want to make the other woman uncomfortable. She then turned back and finished stirring the noodles. About fifteen minutes later dinner was done. She put the pot on a hot pad and found some bowls. She then filled the bowls up and handed one to Bekah. She then grabbed her own.
She opened the fridge and pulled out a bottle of Dr. Pepper and grabbed a drink for Bekah as well. She then carried both drinks along with her food to the table and sat down. Right when she did a flash of lightening hit. Along with a loud thunderclap. The purple haired female jumped at the sound. “If there wasn't thunder and lightening I would be perfectly fine with this bloody storm” she muttered lightly. She hated loud noises. She looked down at the bowl in front of her and started to eat as the rain started to fall even harder outside.
Her face turned red. Was it hot in here all of a sudden? "I mean. It would be no different than our sleepovers before." she said. “So I think it's fine. Whatever you're comfortable in, E.” She sat at the table and watched as Eve moved around the kitchen. Her best friend was beautiful in every single way. But she was her best friend, and they had only recently gotten back on speaking terms. "Did anything ever work out with that girl from West that you were talking too?" she questioned. “Are you dating her?”
Once the mac and cheese was finished, she quickly made herself a big bowl. Eve's Mac and Cheese had always been her comfort food. "I'm cooking dinner for you tomorrow." she said. She squealed herself as Eve jumped from the storm. “I'm right here. Nothing is going to happen to you.” she said with a soft grin.
Eve rolled her eyes when Danica was brought up. She took a bite of the steaming food to gather her thoughts for a moment. She swallowed and opened up the Dr. Pepper taking a sip before speaking. “Nothing happened thank god. I found out she had been talking to other females. She had pretty much lied to me when she said I was the only one she was talking too. That and she was really abusive as well. Her and I had been hanging out watching a movie, when all of her a sudden her mood seemed to shift. She just hauled off and hit me”
“When she realized what she was doing, I was laying on the flood with a split lip. She tried to apologize but I told her to get the hell out. So I haven't seen or spoken to her since that night. I'm surprised you even brought her up” she said softly. She wasn't upset with Bekah about it. She was just curious as to why she was asking. She looked the woman up and down and bit the inside of her cheek lightly. She had the biggest crush on Bekah for hte longest time and something seemed to be happening.
She took another bite as the silence washed over them. She was shaking slightly becuase of the thunder rolling out side, and she hated it. She was such as wuss when it came to thunder storms. She finished off her bowl and pushed it aside as she looked towards Bekah. “Let's play a game of Truth or Dare? Make this night a bit more interesting. What do you think?” she asked. She was curious to know what was on Bekah's mind after all.
Bekah listened as Eve told her about Danica. "I never liked her." she mumbled as she listened to Eve tell her about their relationship. She was abusive? "I- I'm so sorry you to had to go through that... That's awful. You don't deserve anything but love, E." she said softly. “I was just wondering if you were seeing anyone or not.” She wanted nothing more than to go home and find that ass of a woman. "Why didn't you tell me?"
The silence was growing around them so she went back to eating her mac and cheese.
Her face lit up when Eve suggested a game of truth or dare. She knew she was never one to back down from this game. Niether one of them did. "Okay. Sounds good." she said before she looked a deep breathe.
"Dare."
Why hadn't she turned to her best friend? She wanted too. She had tried too. But whenever she did Quinn was getting in the way. “You were with Quinn at the time. I tried calling you more than once and Quinn always answered and told me that you didn't want anything to do with me. So I kind of backed off. I didn't tell anyone else about it, but I wasn't as close to Ashley or the others like I was with you” she said with a small shrug of her shoulders. It was in the past now. No need to dewell on it.
A small smirk passed over her lips as Bekah agreed to playing the game and she instantly picked Dare. Evette tapped her finger against her chin lightly as she thought of what to make the woman do. She cocked her head to the side as she looked her up and down. What kind of dare should she do? There was so many options, but they hadn't set any ground rules though either. So this was going to be interesting. “I'll go easy on you. I dare you to tell me something you've never told me before. Something you've wanted to tell me”
“You can't back out and say truth either, because that's not how the game works either” she said sticking her tongue out at the woman. She didn't was curious as to what the other was going to say. Was this a good idea? She didn't know, but it was too late now. The game has started and it would only end when one of them couldn't handle a Dare given, or the Truth being told. She cocked her head again and smirked. “Let's make this a bit more interesting. Nothing's off limits. Period. If it's something that makes us uncomfrotable, we still have to do it. Deal?” she wasn't about to back down from her own challenge.
Oh of course Quinn was to blame for this. Quinn was all the time holding her phone, acting like it just incase she forgot it. "Eve.. I had no idea." she tried to explain. "Quinn must've deleted the calls."
The look at Eve had on her face right now was damn right adorable. She could see the wheels turning in her pretty head thinking of a dare to tell her friend. What would it be? "Oh why are you starting off easy? I picked dare for a reason."
She thought about the question for a few moments. Did she really want to open this can of works. She nodded as Eve said nothing was off limits. "I agree. Nothing is off limits. Nothing."
"I've always thought you were the most beautfiul woman in the entire world... But Last year at homecoming, when we had all gotten a little tipsy, and you started making out with that girl from the rival school.. I was so jealous. I wanted to march right over there, and kiss you myself. But I was scared."
Evette cocked her head to the side and rolled her eyes. Of course Quinn would be the controlling type. She hadn't wanted to see Bekah with the woman but deep down she knew she wouldn't have been able to stop her. Quinn had been a total sweet talker and pretty much swept Bekah off her feet. Something she wished she could have done instead. She watched the blonde in front of her, her eyes scanning her up and down. It was like she was seeing Bekah in a whole new light so to speak. The blonde always carried herself maturely.
As Bekah was talking about Homecoming the purple haired female laughed. “You mean Scarlett? That bitch had eyes for me since day one pretty much. I knew she was from the other school and she was staying with my family for awhile, so I had no choice but to play nice with her. You should have come up and kissed me. What if I was trying to make you jealous?” she asked. In a way she had been trying to make the other jealous. She always had a crush on Bekah and she wanted to make it known to the world, but she didn't know how too.
She stood and picked up her bowl and got some more of the food. She looked out the window as lighting lit up the sky, and a large clap of thunder shook the house. She shuddered lightly as she turned away from the window with her bowl of food. She sat back down and pulled one of her legs up under her. She was debating on what to pick. “I choose dare as well” she said as she took a bite of the food. She was curious as to what Bekah would make her do.
Bekah was furious that Quinn had withheld that information from her. Her best friend needed her and she couldn't even be there for her. "I'm so sorry." she whispered. It was well known that Quinn was her knight in shining armor, for awhile. She quite literaly came into her life and fell head over heels in lust. And then Quinns true colors came out.
"Yes, Scarlett." Bekah faked gagged just saying her name aloud. "Just because you had to play nice, didn't mean you had to kiss her. Hell, if you wanted someone to kiss, I was right the-." Her words cut off when the purple haired woman said she was trying to make her jealous. "Well. It sure as hell worked, E."
Her eyes followed the female as she grabbed a second helping of the mac and cheese she had prepared. Her heart melted as her small body shook from the thunder. Smiling weakly, she moved to kneel down in front of her chair.
"I dare you to kiss me."
Eve's mind wandered to the year before and a small smirk came across her lips. She had made Bekah jealous? She couldn't help but feel a bit of pride at that. She cocked her head to side and shrugged. “It's nothing worth worrying about now. It was a year ago. I just wish you had seen Quinn's true colors before all that shit went down” she admitted. She hated seeing Bekah so hurt over the whole matter. She had wanted to reach out then and help make the woman feel better. She knew she wouldn't have been able too, so she kept to herself.
When she was sitting back down with the bowl in hand she tried to shove the thought of the thunder storm out of her mind. She knew the lightening was still flashing, and another crack of thunder seemed to shake the cabin. Her body shook when it hit. She then watched as Bekah got down on her knees, the words tumbling from her lips. Was this really happening right now? Was she really about to kiss her best friend? They were in the middle of the game anyway and she wasn't one to back down from a dare either.
She moved the bowl to the middle of the table and leaned forward slowly. Her eyes searching Bekah's face. The blonde female was breath taking. She held her breath a bit before she reached out and brushed her fingers along her jaw. Her eyes locking on Bekah's. She leaned forward slowly as she snaked her fingers into the blondes hair, she gentely tugged the woman's head back. She moved forward even more and their lips were inches apart. Her heart was hammering inside of her chest. What if this changes things between them? That was something she would think about later.
She finally closed the gap, her lips brushing against Bekah's. The taste of her lips against her own made her heart race. She deepened the kiss a bit before she pulled back, a grin on her face. “Your move” she breathed out. She didn't care if they kept playing the game or not. All she wanted just then, was the feel the woman's lips against hers once more.
