The young man turned, eyeing the girl in the black dress across the dance floor. Blue and purple streamers hung from the gymnasium ceiling and a silver disco ball blanketed everything in a rainbows of light. The brunette looked up through her lashes, a faint smile on her lips. [i Zack,] she said, though barely a whisper.
The party was quiet as he made his way to her. In his peripherals, he could see pools of red with black unmoving masses floating across the surface. He forced himself not to look away from the girl's gaze. He had to reach her. He had to keep her safe but his legs felt heavy...
[i Zack.] He blinked and the brunette's lips parted, an echoing [i crack] as her jaw dislocated and tore. It swung grotesquely as she lurched forward, her back arching into a hump. Her skin turned a sickly gray as black began oozing from the open mouth.
It was too late. His lip quivered slightly as he fell to his knees, warm red splashing across his tuxedo. The girl lurched closer and closer till she had her boney fingers digging into his shoulders and her mouth clamping over his head.
Zackary opened his eyes, the flashlight forcing him to squint. He pushed the device out of his face and turned over. [#42679e “What the hell do you want?”] he growled, feeling disgusted with the humidity in this apartment. How he hated summer.
[#9c6f22 “They’re outside.”] He looked up at his traveling companion for the last three or so months. Scrawny but brilliant, he and Auro had been with each since the initial outbreak and while he’d been bottling it up well, that couldn’t be said for the other. Always nervous, always on a breaking point.
Zack gathered to his feet, airing out the thin t-shirt sticky with sweat. He crossed the small room, using a finger to pull aside the curtains granting him a small gap to peer through.
Teeth and blood shot eyes. Zack nearly jumped out of his skin, pulling back quickly to steady his breath. A zomb had pressed itself up against the glass in a horrifying dead eyed stare.
[#9c6f22 “I fucking told you,”] the younger one snapped, grabbing at his pack. [#9c6f22 “They can smell us. I just know it.”]
Zack ran his fingers through his hair, dreading the thought of leaving while it was still dark. [#42679e “Ro, you know it’s better to leave when it’s light. Let’s get everything ready.”] Surprisingly enough, Auro had helped him control his short temper, at the best of times leaving him cool mannered. Though... in those moments of violent bloodshed amongst hordes of zombies, he felt no guilt in letting his rage free.

Auro had a feeling that Z was on a big brother kick and he hated it. While the gap between them was enough to excuse this behavior, he wanted to be the other man’s equal. It was probably a stubborn thought however. Zack was stronger, faster and more rounded with the outside world- despite how apocolyptic things tended to be.
Without him, Auro would surely be lunch meat by now.
Taking a deep breath, he stuffed his pack with his various belongings and whatever rations would fit. Food had been harder to come by and Z had been forced to use violence once or twice just against a human just to live another day. Ro had supposedly helped but he couldn't quite remember the details.
There had been a couple interventions in the last month about these gaps in memory; about how something stronger emerged when Auro most needed it. A frown etched across his features. He wished he still had the internet but that had been deactivated for a couple months now. This was the worst time to have a mental breakdown.
Zack had decided not to go back to sleep and instead took to a quick rag bath in the kitchen with old standing water. The heat was treacherous in the evenings most of the time keeping him up at night. His roommate was tormented with nightmares of a time before they met. Neither could say they’ve slept soundly since the first bite.
He ruffled his hair to get the airflow on his scalp, wondering for the millionth time what the point of this whole survival game was. Everyone had turned into monsters, some figuratively as well. Humanity had collapsed faster than they could imagine. The only hope they were clinging to was finding other like minded survivors to rally and fight off the hordes of the dead. [i All very cinematic and unlikely.] And Z was supposed to be the cynic...
Auro pushed up his glasses slipping from sweat, keeping an eye on the wall clock for the first break of daylight. ]]

Ever since the outbreak started, Bailey and herself had been attached at the hip, protecting one another just trying to survive for another day. When she caught the other woman's eye she nodded over towards the building she had spotted. It was an apartment building, and she didn't know how safe it was, but it was a chance she was willing to take just for somewhere else to sleep. The sun was going down, and it wasn't safe after dark.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 She moved closer to her best and only friend now, and spoke in a soft whisper. [#E37789 "That apartment building over there, that's where you and I need to go for the night. I'm not sure how safe it is, but it's a chance I'm willing to take"] she said in a low voice. Bailey looked towards the building, and shook her head lightly. [#4f9c63 "I know we need it, but I'm not sure how much I can take tonight"] she admitted. She was getting a bit weaker with each moment. She had her hand wrapped around a rag.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 [#E37789 "I know Bailey.. But we have to try. We need to get that bandage changed, and soon"] she muttered as her grey eyes moved back towards the building. Bailey knew that's what was needing to happen, and she understood where her friend was coming from. The red head nodded lightly as Ginger slowly pulled her knife out of her pocket, and moved away from her side. She then peered around the corner and made sure the ghost was clear, before she nodded towards Bailey, and the two made their way to the building as fast as they could.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 As they were running, Ginger could hear the sound of moans coming from the side of her, and sure enough there was a Dead One coming towards her. She didn't want to believe they were zombies, but she didn't know what else to call them. There was only one at the moment, and she knew if the thing kept making noise, it would draw more towards them. She couldn't afford that right now. She had to get Bailey off the streets, check her wound, and change the bandage. She didn't have much of a choice right now.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 The blonde made her way towards the thing coming towards them, and as she did, it reached out to swipe at her. She narrowed her eyes as she raised her hand, and slammed it down, plunging the knife into the creatures head as hard as she could. The moment she did, the body fell to the ground with a soft thud. She let out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding, as she pulled the knife out of the skull. [#E37789 "I'm so sorry.."] she breathed out, as she looked down at the creature.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 She knew she shouldn't feel bad, but she did. This whole world was fucked up, and her and Bailey were the only two living things. At least that's what she thought anyway. It's been weeks since the two of them had saw other living people. It hadn't lasted long, before the other's they were with were bitten, and they had to kill them right away. Ginger shook her head lightly as she looked back at Bailey, and made her way back towards her. [#E37789 "Let's go before other's start showing up"] she breathed out.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 Bailey nodded and the two finished the trek, and found a door and slipped inside. The two stood there listening for any other sounds, and when they didn't hear anything, they found the staircase and started making their way up. The building was way too silent, and Ginger didn't know if that was a good thing, or not. When they were up on the fifth floor, they stepped out into the hallway, and both stopped in their tracks. Bailey was the first to speak up [#4f9c63 "It looks like a fucking war zone.."] she whispered.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 Ginger nodded as she looked towards the bodies along the hallway. They all looked dead, none of them were moving, and there was no sound coming from any of them. Which she hoped would stay that way. She bit her lip as she started trying different doors along the hallway. That's when she found one, and slowly turned the knob and walked inside. She made sure everything was good, before she motioned to Bailey to join her. The two slipped into the apartment, closed the door and pushed a chair behind it. Ginger then dropped her bag, and nodded to Bailey.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 Bailey found a wooden chair from the kitchen, and she sat down. She slowly started to undress the wound, and let Ginger work her magic to help get her bandaged back up. Bailey's eyes scanned the small apartment. The two kept silent as Ginger worked. Knowing if either of them said something too loud, they could call something towards them, and they didn't want to deal with that quite yet. Bailey was weak from the blood loss, but thanks to Ginger, she was still alive. She turned her eyes away from Ginger's fingers, listening for any strange sounds around them.]]
