[center [pic https://i.imgur.com/eUcSrn1.png]] Beomgyu, being kicked out of his coven for accidentally killing his brother, is left to wander around Russia. His goal was to try and redeem himself somehow, but he wasn't sure how. Not until he came across an injured fox 'shifter and decides to take care of him. Youngtaek had been wandering around near the border to Finland when he had been shot by hunters, narrowly escaping them and falling into a pit. He was rescued by Beomgyu hours later, and decided to stay with him for the time being. How will things work out? Let's find out. [center ~] Hai~! Author-nim here with another story! We're back to the spinoff series! Yes, we're back with it again this time in a situation where Beomgyu is now alone instead of being with Taehyun like in the main series. In this timeline, the setting is a few years after the events of Gunil's story since Gunil has been dead for a while as of the events of the last spinoff story. How did Kai die? Well, it'll be explained! To the characters~! [center Characters:] Beomgyu: A vampire who had been kicked out of his coven when he accidentally killed his younger brother Kai for finding out the truth of a traumatic event for Beomgyu. He was already going through a lot, being a new vampire and everything, but being told the truth just made him [i snap]. He spent the next few years after being banished wandering alone, wondering when he would be able to redeem himself. His hardened ways came from his time in military school before joining the Russian military and dealing with being forced to shut down his emotions in the face of danger. He is a big softie under that icy exterior, only showing it to those he [i really] trusted. Youngtaek: A fox shapeshifter who was part of the St Petersburg Coven before it was disbanded due to trust issues within the coven. He travelled with Jangjun for a while before leaving him and joining the shapeshifter pack in Norway led by Eric. He soon left that pack and ended up back in Russia, somewhere near the border of Finland and now patrols it, having nothing better to do. His animal form is a large silver colored fox with a white underside and a black tipped tail. I hope you enjoy the story~! [center Chapter 1] Beomgyu sighed as he looked down at the pit that he found, finding an injured fox at the bottom. "Here I thought I'd find easy prey, but I find a fox 'shifter," he grumbled, hopping down into the pit and picking up the fox, hopping out of the pit. "Careful kit," hummed Beomgyu as the fox started struggling in his arms. "I'm not here to kill you," he added, putting the fox on the ground and checking for bullets wounds, carefully digging them out. The fox whimpered in pain, shivering and trying to stay still. Once the bullets were all out Beomgyu backed away, watching as the fox got to its feet, its tail wagging slightly in thanks. Beomgyu nodded to it before turning and sprinting off, heading off to hunt. The fox watched him go before it turned and ran off, heading off to change and get dressed before heading back to its small hut that had become its home. [center ~] Beomgyu huffed, leaning against a low lying wall as he waited on someone, being back in St Petersburg for the first time in months. He hadn't heard much from Soobin or Taehyun since he had been kicked out, but apparently he had gotten a letter and was merely waiting for it. "You're as impatient as ever Gyu," came a voice, causing Beomgyu to scowl as he turned to said voice. "Don't [i call] me that," he growled, glaring at Jungsu. Jungsu smirked at him, knowing Beomgyu wouldn't try anything. "And that temper, yeesh no wonder you were kicked out," he hummed. Beomgyu sighed shaking his head. "Anyway," Jungsu hummed, passing along a sealed envelope. "This is for you," he added. "Soobin was the one to come to me alone for this," he remarked. "It must've been a [i very] important letter," he hummed. Beomgyu took the envelope, glancing at the messy handwriting that belonged to Soobin. "It's from him alright," he grumbled, sounding somewhat relieved. Jungsu nodded, turning and walking away, soon disappearing into the crowd. Beomgyu sighed as he stared at the envelope before opening it and taking out the letter, unfolding it and starting to read it. [center ~] [i Gyu, I know you hate it when everyone calls you by that nickname but let me call you that at least? Anyway. I bring you news. We're nearby, but we won't be coming to you. Taehyun INSISTED on staying far away. I may try to come see you sometime, if I can get away from him long enough to be able to come to you. Stay in St Petersburg for a few days, relax a bit yeah? Find Seongyoon for some company or something. I don't know. I know you hate being around people due to your anger issues but maybe finding someone to be around will help you get your issues under control. If you stop by the fort, say hello to Kai for me okay? I heard my brother left a long time ago, so I don't know what the fort looks like now. I may go see it so if we meet up there, well. Also there's a fox 'shifter near the border of Finland. Youngtaek or something? Can you give him a letter for me? Jungsu refused but I'm sure you'll find him. He said you were around that area a lot anyway. Jangjun just wants to let him know that he's still around. I think there's a letter here with this one, so. If not tell him that Jangjun is still alive. Him and Keonhee are just wandering around Europe again, and we ran into them in Hungary. I'll see you soon? Maybe? -Soobin] Beomgyu checked the envelope to see if there was another letter and didn't see any. He shook his head and tore up the paper, pushing away from the wall and walking towards the nearby trashcan and throwing the letter and envelope away before leaving, heading out of St Petersburg. He had a fox 'shifter to find after all. [center ~] There was only [i one] place a fox 'shifter would be, and Beomgyu knew exactly where. He had come across the random hut in the middle of the forest by the borders, and knew from the stench coming off it, to him anyway, that a 'shifter lived there. It didn't seem he was there today, as Beomgyu knocked on the door to hut and didn't hear a sound. "What are you doing here?" Came a voice, causing Beomgyu to turn around to see someone standing a few feet away. "I have a message for Youngtaek," responded Beomgyu as he studied the person with a tilt of his head. "That is me," Youngtaek responded with an eyebrow raise. "What is it?" He asked. "Jangjun said to tell you that he's alive and well," answered Beomgyu as he shrugged his shoulders. "Oh," hummed Youngtaek. "Thanks?" He asked as he blinked in confusion. Beomgyu nodded, turning and sprinting off, back towards St Petersburg. Youngtaek was left to stand there awkwardly, before entering his hut and closing the door behind him. [center ~] Beomgyu found himself outside of a familiar town, blinking as he tried to remember the reason he had come here. "Ah, the fort," he hummed, turning away from the town to run around it towards where the fort had been and where Kai had been buried after the incident. Beomgyu half expected Soobin to be sitting at the remains of the firepit where many fires were started, making dinner or something. Beomgyu scoffs, but went to grab the sticks for the firepit and some bark for kindling, soon coming back and throwing it into a pile. He turned to the fort and went to open the door, flashing memories of a sleeping Kai on the platform flowing through his head as he looked around the familiar surroundings of the small fort. He looked under the platform and found the zippo lighter, pocketing it and leaving the fort, closing the door behind him and making sure to latch it closed. After making sure the pit was clear and the rocks were still good Beomgyu started the fire with the lighter and a piece of bark, throwing it into the pile of sticks and watching as it went up in flames. He pocketed the lighter and stood there for a while, staring into the fire as he was in his thoughts. [center ~] "So you did come after all," called a familiar voice as Soobin sprinted into view, coming to a stop on the other side of the pit in front of Beomgyu. "I'm here sometimes," hummed Beomgyu. Soobin hummed in response, looking down at the fire. "How's things been?" Asked Beomgyu as he looked up at Soobin. "Well, they're going," grumbled Soobin as he looked up at Beomgyu. "You're looking well," he added. "I have nothing better to do," Beomgyu responded with a shrug. "I've been keeping an eye on things by Finland, but it seems we've got someone there already," he hummed. "Youngtaek? He started being there recently," hummed Soobin. "Leave him be, he's only there because he also has nothing better to do," he added. "I'm not stopping the kit," mumbled Beomgyu. "I know," said Soobin. "I know," he repeated.

[center Chapter 2] Beomgyu found himself alone again, after Soobin had to leave and return back to Taehyun who was about to hunt him down if Soobin didn't reassure him with a picture of himself at the fort. Beomgyu let him go, waving him off before walking over to the gravesite for Kai after the fire was completely burned out. "Hey Kai," Beomgyu mumbled in the steadiest voice possible as he took a deep breath. "I heard Yeonjun left, and he left his lighter for me," he added. "At least, I have something from this place worth keeping," he whispered, shaking his head. "This will be the last time I'll be here," Beomgyu stated, bending down in front of the cross that stuck out of the ground and tracing his fingers over Kai's name. "So I'm sending you off, okay?" He asked, getting up and moving away. "I don't know who will use this fort next, but whoever does I hope they use it to its fullest potential," he hummed, turning back to the fort and staring at it for a long time. [center ~] Returning back to St Petersburg a few days later, Beomgyu felt more at peace with himself for the first time in years since the incident. Maybe it was a sign that he was moving on, but even someone like him still grieved over the loss of a loved one. "You're back," called a familiar voice, causing Beomgyu to turn to spot the fox 'shifter he had visited a few days before. "I am?" Asked Beomgyu as he tilted his head to the side in question. "I don't [i live] in this city," he added. "You disappeared for a few days," remarked Youngtaek. "I just wanted to see you to thank you for telling me that Jangjun and Keonhee are still alive," he added. "Things have changed a lot since the coven I was a part of disbanded, so it was nice to hear from them," he hummed. "Seongyoon still resides in this city you know," stated Beomgyu as he studied Youngtaek's reaction. "Seongyoon can die for all I care," growled Youngtaek as he clenched his hands into fists. "[i He's] the reason the coven disbanded anyway," he spat. "Hey hey, I'm just saying," Beomgyu said quickly as he raised up his hands. "I know, I know," Youngtaek sighed out, looking at the asphalt under his feet. "So why were you looking for me in the first place huh?" Asked Beomgyu as he turned and walked away. Youngtaek looked up, quickly following after Beomgyu and walking beside him when he caught up. "You tend to patrol the borders, it's usually me," explained Youngtaek. "I've always patrolled the borders," hummed Beomgyu as he shrugged. "You just never saw me until the day you fell into a pit," he added. "Wait, how did you know that was me?" Asked Youngtaek. "There's only [i one] other fox 'shifter that would patrol this side of Russia that I know personally, and he's over by the Sea of Japan right now," Beomgyu answered with a shrug. "I was the one who took his place, so he could go that way," he added. "Also he's not stupid enough to get caught by hunters," he hummed, earning a scowl from Youngtaek. "Oi," growled Youngtaek. "Just saying," Beomgyu stated with a smirk, earning another scowl from Youngtaek. [center ~] "You hungry fox?" Asked Beomgyu as he stopped and turned to Youngtaek. "Not at the moment, no," hummed Youngtaek as he shook his head, stopping a foot away from Beomgyu. "Then why are you still following me?" Asked Beomgyu. "I'm bored," stated Youngtaek as he shrugged. "The borders are fine for the moment," he added. "Bored, uh huh," hummed Beomgyu. "What? I am," whined Youngtaek, earning a soft chuckle from Beomgyu before he could stop it. Youngtaek grinned at that, earning an eye roll from Beomgyu. "Tell me one thing fox," started Beomgyu as he closely watched Youngtaek's reaction. "Why do you have a computer chip somewhere on your body?" He asked. That caused Youngtaek to stumble slightly, caught off guard by the question. "How did you-" he started as Beomgyu turned and walked off, disappearing into the crowd. "Aw come on," whined Youngtaek as he moved to follow after Beomgyu, excusing himself as he moved around people, soon getting lost in the sea of people. [center ~] Beomgyu sat in the back rows of a cathedral, not really there to pray, but he studied the statue of Jesus at the alter with a small tilt of his head. He had his hands in his pants pockets, his left hand gripping the lighter in that pocket to seek what little comfort he could get from it. "Long time no see kid," came a voice as someone sat beside Beomgyu. "Seungmin," greeted Beomgyu. "You rarely need me for anything kid," commented Seungmin as he looked at Beomgyu. "I was told that you had some old pictures that Yeonjun left behind when he left," stated Beomgyu as he turned to Seungmin. "Which one are you looking for?" Asked Seungmin. "Do you have one of Kai?" Asked Beomgyu. "I thought you'd ask for one," replied Seungmin as he dug through his pack for a picture. "Is this fine?" He asked, handing over a picture. Beomgyu looked at it, the corners of his lips going up in a small smile at the memory the picture brought. "Yeah, it is," hummed Beomgyu as he brushed his fingers over the picture. It had been Kai's birthday and everyone was at the fort about a week before the incident. Beomgyu was helping him roast marshmallows while Soobin and Taehyun were preparing food. Yeonjun had been the one to take the picture, it being one of the few that Yeonjun had kept on him. [center ~] [i "Come on, let me help you roast marshmallows," said Beomgyu as he went to get a stick for them both. "Can I get two?!" Asked Kai as he looked excited. "It's my birthday," he whined with a pout. "You can have mine," said Beomgyu as he came back with the sticks and started carving them into spears. "I'm not too hungry today," he added. "Really?" Kai asked as he looked excited. Beomgyu nodded. "No more than two okay? We have to save some room for the cake!" Soobin called from where he was preparing dinner. "Cake!" Shouted Kai. Beomgyu chuckled, handing Kai a stick with a marshmallow on it. He took the other stick and put it over the fire, Kai putting his stick next to his. A click from a camera was heard, Yeonjun capturing the moment in time as he watched what was going on. He took other pictures throughout the day, the only picture being saved was of course, the moment he captured where Beomgyu and Kai were roasting marshmallows.] [center ~] Beomgyu wandered the streets of St Petersburg after leaving the cathedral, having left the picture at a special jewelry shop to make the picture be part of a locket that he planned on getting. He looked up at the moon high above him, reminiscing about old times. "I found you!" Came a voice, causing Beomgyu to turn around to spot Youngtaek again. "You again?" Asked Beomgyu as he looked slightly annoyed. "I haven't been looking for you all day, I swear," Youngtaek stated quickly as he raised his hands in surrender. "I actually had a few things to take care of here," he added. "Well," hummed Beomgyu. "What do you want?" He asked. "I wanted to take up your offer of dinner, but it seems it's a bit late for that," replied Youngtaek as shrugged. "Hm," hummed Beomgyu as he turned around and continued walking. Youngtaek pushed to follow after him, soon walking beside him as he caught up.

[center Chapter 3] "So how did you know I had a chip anyway?" Asked Youngtaek as he and Beomgyu sat on some benches a few feet away from a food stall that was still open. "The way you healed quickly from the bullet wounds," explained Beomgyu. "Sure, I helped and whatever but a normal 'shifter wouldn't just [i bounce back] so quickly," he added. "I only have one, and it's on my spine," hummed Youngtaek. "I'm just a fast healer is all," he added. "Also I'm older than you brat, treat me with some respect will you?" He asked with a scowl. "Who treated you to food?" Asked Beomgyu as he raised an eyebrow, fighting down an amused smirk at Youngtaek who sputtered at the realization. "Okay fine," grumbled Youngtaek as he dug into his food with gusto. "Also, who was the other fox that patrolled the borders?" Asked Youngtaek as he paused in his eating to take a sip of water from the bottle beside him. "You don't know Yuri?" Asked Beomgyu. "I never met the guy," hummed Youngtaek. "Seongyoon never really travelled outside of St Petersburg, and I was with him most of the time," he added as he put the bottle down and went back to eating. "I met Yuri about a year after I ended up alone," hummed Beomgyu. "He's become one of my good friends," he added. "I see," hummed Youngtaek. "The only reason he asked me to patrol the borders was because apparently a war may start and we need to keep things from escalating into Russia," explained Beomgyu. "Hm," hummed Youngtaek. "It's going to be hard on Kevin it seems," hummed Beomgyu. "You know of his condition then?" Asked Youngtaek. "Who doesn't at this point?" Asked Beomgyu. "Kevin's not even in the best of conditions right now and they need him," he added. "They're too prideful for their own good," grumbled Youngtaek. "Sometimes it's easier to keep things within their own borders, in case anyone tries to take advantage of it," explained Beomgyu. "It's actually a decent strategy, until they [i actually] need to ask for help," he added. "Right, and you would know this how?" Asked Youngtaek. "Hello, I went to military school," Beomgyu stated with a scoff. "I had to constantly strategize as final projects, mostly dealing with invasions," he added. "I've also had to come up with scenarios where we couldn't get outside help due to well, being Russia," he hummed. "Huh," hummed Youngtaek. "Interesting," he added. [center ~] After Youngtaek finished eating Beomgyu paid for the meal before leaving, Youngtaek scrambling to follow after him after cleaning up and throwing his trash away. "Why are you still following me fox?" Asked Beomgyu as he let Youngtaek follow him out of boredom. "I don't know," grumbled Youngtaek. "Also I'm older than you brat," he said, scowling at Beomgyu. "You're a fox, what else do you want me to say?" Asked Beomgyu as he shrugged. "But I'm [i older] than you," muttered Youngtaek as he huffed. "Older doesn't mean mature," Beomgyu stated matter-of-factly as he shrugged. "Oi!" Whined Youngtaek. "You're only like this because you were stuck in the military," Youngtaek stated, earning a sigh from Beomgyu. "I didn't have a choice you know," grumbled Beomgyu. "I-," started Youngtaek as he stopped walking in surprise. "What do you [i mean] you didn't have a choice?" Asked Youngtaek as Beomgyu kept walking. "Find out for yourself," called Beomgyu as he disappeared from view. [center ~] It was a long stretch at this point, but Youngtaek was [i determined] to find out more things about Beomgyu, even if he didn't know his name. He knew from his excursions with Seongyoon to Moscow that if he found a park to sit in and wait a bit he'd find the one vampire that might give him an answer. Though, if anything a cathedral would work too, but Youngtaek hated churches. Too many bad memories for him. It was why now, that Youngtaek sat in a park with a sandwich, enjoying his meal while he waited. It had been a few days since he had seen Beomgyu, but maybe this vampire that he never caught the name of will have his answers. "I come around to see a fox," called a voice as Jungsu walked over, stopping in front of Youngtaek as he put his hands in his pants pockets. "I'm in need of information," Youngtaek stated inbetween bites of food, finishing his sandwich as he looked up at Jungsu. "What kind of information?" Asked Jungsu. "There's this vampire that's patrolling the same area as me," hummed Youngtaek. "Also I'd like your name so I can at least address you by your name," he added. "Jungsu," hummed Jungsu as he nodded. "Youngtaek, though I think you already know that," responded Youngtaek as he shrugged, crumpling the paper that had been wrapped around his sandwich into a ball before throwing it into a nearby trashcan. "So what's this about a vampire patrolling your area?" Asked Jungsu as he tilted his head to the side. "I don't know his name, but he said he was forced into the military or something, I don't know," hummed Youngtaek. "Ah, Beomgyu," hummed Jungsu as he looked thoughtful. "What about him?" He asked. "I find it odd that he had been forced into the military," hummed Youngtaek. "Sometimes parents want that kind of thing for their kids," replied Jungsu as he shrugged. "Isn't it a bit harsh?" Asked Youngtaek. "For what he had done, well it was expected," hummed Jungsu as he shrugged. "What'd he do? Murder someone?" Asked Youngtaek. "No," Jungsu scoffed. "Beomgyu's too good for that," he added. "What'd he do?" Asked Youngtaek. "It's not my place to say," hummed Jungsu as he shrugged, turning and walking away. "Wait-," started Youngtaek as he got to his feet, watching as Jungsu disappeared into the crowd. "Damn it," he scowled, sighing as he flopped back down on the bench he had been sitting on. [center ~] At a different park Beomgyu was standing and admiring the fountain that had many coins thrown into it. "He's asking for you, you know," came a voice as Jungsu came to a stop beside him. "I know," hummed Beomgyu as he flipped a coin into the fountain. "Will you tell him?" Asked Jungsu. "Why would I? I'm nothing but a military brat to him," grumbled Beomgyu. "You're going to be together for a while it seems though," stated Jungsu as he shrugged. "Yuri's on his way back, I'm heading out that way as soon as he arrives," hummed Beomgyu. "Hm," hummed Jungsu.

[center Chapter 4] Beomgyu stayed in St Petersburg for a few days, waiting for the locket to be done more than anything. Youngtaek hadn't bothered him since the dinner but Beomgyu was still expecting him to show up at any point before he left. Yuri was due to arrive any day now, and that meant that Beomgyu needed to prepare for his departure, going along the Russian border towards the Sea of Japan. [center ~] Youngtaek huffed as he got the news about the fox named Yuri coming back towards this side of Russia. He should've expected that, as Beomgyu had said he was only there due to Yuri keeping an eye on things on the other side of the country before coming back. Maybe Youngtaek could go with him this time. It would be nice to be able to see the rest of Russia. If only he could find Beomgyu in this huge city. "Where the hell could he be hm?" He asked himself as he stared at the cathedral he ended up being across the street from. "God I hate being here," mumbled Youngtaek as he tried not to glare at the building. "Looking for me?" Came a voice, causing Youngtaek to jump, turning to someone he wasn't familiar with. "Uh?" Asked Youngtaek. "You're the one with the cathedral things right?" He asked. "God you really must hate these buildings if you've never met me before today," commented the vampire in front of him. "Yes, it's me," he added. "I'm Seungmin," he stated, smiling slightly. "Youngtaek," grumbled Youngtaek as he tried not to sound annoyed. "What did you need me for?" Asked Seungmin. "I don't know, honestly," hummed Youngtaek. "I've been looking for Beomgyu before he left the city, would you happen to know where he went?" He asked. "Ah, that kid?" Asked Seungmin. "Last I checked he was getting a locket made before he left the city," he answered after thinking it over. "I don't know if he's still in the city, but you could find the watch shop here," he added, writing something down on a piece of paper before handing it to Youngtaek. "No need," came a voice as Beomgyu walked over, coming to a stop in front of Youngtaek and Seungmin. "I actually needed to talk to you," he added, speaking to Seungmin. "What about?" Asked Seungmin. "Where is Yeonjun now a days?" Asked Beomgyu. "I know he didn't leave the country, you would've said so," he added. "He didn't specify," replied Seungmin as he shrugged. "He might've left the country now, who knows," he added. "He did say that he would let Soobin know of where he went but that's as much info as I got," he explained. "A human knows about our world?" Asked Youngtaek. "Well, sort of," responded Beomgyu. "He only knows to contact Seungmin and Jungsu if he needs to let Soobin know of anything," he added. "Yuri is back by the way," hummed Seungmin. "Cool, I just got my locket too," stated Beomgyu as he nodded. "I'll be heading on then," he added, turning and walking away. "Oi, wait brat!" Exclaimed Youngtaek as he rushed to follow after him. Seungmin shook his head as he watched them go before walking the other way. [center ~] "So how are we going to get there?" Asked Youngtaek. "I never said you could come with me," stated Beomgyu as he turned to Youngtaek, glaring at him. "Can I go with you? Please?" Whined Youngtaek. "I've never travelled to that side of Russia before," he added. "Were you [i that] sheltered fox?" Asked Beomgyu as he looked exasperated. "Seongyoon never went that way, he just stayed in St Petersburg because Gunil was always going that way, or we had other people," replied Youngtaek. "Well, I [i was] going to run there, but you decided to ruin that plan," grumbled Beomgyu. "Looks like we're going by train," he hummed. Youngtaek sputtered. "I don't mind running," he managed to say, though he looked hopeful about going by train. "Forget it fox, you won't be able to keep up with me," remarked Beomgyu as he shook his head. "We're going by train," he added. Youngtaek almost cheered, grinning at Beomgyu before running off. "I'll meet you at the train station," he called as he disappeared from view. Beomgyu was left to sigh before turning and going to hunt to make sure he'd be able to last the entire trip to Vladivostok since it was close to where they needed to start. [center ~] After hunting Beomgyu used his connections through Seungmin to secure them in the best first class seats possible, in terms of heading out that far east anyway. They met at the train station a few hours later and Youngtaek had a huge bag of food with him, knowing that it was a long journey and it would be annoying to constantly ask for food. "Jesus, are you feeding an army?" Asked Beomgyu as he tried to not look amused by the amount of food. "I don't want to ruin your bank account with how much I actually eat," commented Youngtaek as he shrugged. "Who says I'm paying for all the food?" Asked Beomgyu. "Uh," hummed Youngtaek. "I got us the train tickets, you're paying for the meals," explained Beomgyu. "At least pay for one meal or so?" Asked Youngtaek. "Fine," grumbled Beomgyu. "But you better not eat all that food within the first day," he added. Youngtaek nodded eagerly. [center ~] Getting on the train was easy enough, getting to their room was easy enough. Having a hyper fox who was excited for a train ride was a bit harder. It took everything for Youngtaek to sit still, and even then he stared out the window with his hands in his lap as he fidgeted, staring in fascination as the train started to move. Beomgyu tried to not look amused as he threw Youngtaek's bag into the overhead part above the door before sitting down on the other seat. "Did you say there was a hot water thing here?" Asked Youngtaek as he turned to Beomgyu. "Yeah, the train person pointed it out to me when we got on the train," replied Beomgyu as he nodded. "Sweet," hummed Youngtaek. "I brought lots of soup packets, I didn't know if they had hot water or not," he added, shrugging. It was going to be a [i long] journey, for Beomgyu at least. Youngtaek was able to keep himself entertained at least, but Beomgyu didn't have much to do except read a book and listen to Youngtaek rambling about the scenery passing by.

[center Chapter 5] The train ride to Vladivostok was honestly [i boring] for Beomgyu, as he couldn't sleep therefore he just laid in his seat for most of the trip staring up at the ceiling in thought while Youngtaek alternated between sleeping, staring out at the scenery and eating. A 3-4 day trip running took about 7 days for them, but it allowed Beomgyu to relax and not be on the move for once. That was something he hadn't been able to do in years. "We finally made it?" Asked Youngtaek as the train entered the city. "Yep," answered Beomgyu. "Welcome to Vladivostok," he added. "This is the beginning of our journey, we just head north along the coast from here," he stated. "When do we leave?" Asked Youngtaek. "We'll set up in the city first, let me hunt and let you get situated before we spend the next however many months up and down the coast," came the reply from Beomgyu as the train came to a stop. [center ~] After getting situated in the city Youngtaek was left to wander around while Beomgyu went hunting and find a place to hide Youngtaek's bag. A hotel would be nice, however an apartment would be even better for their situation. Maybe Jiseok was still around this area, Beomgyu would have to find out. The only problem was, was that Jiseok could be in China and Beomgyu wasn't sure if he would be able to cross over to get information about the area. He would've went into North Korea to see Baekjin but Baekjin wasn't anywhere near the northern border of North Korea, last he checked anyway. As if his prayers were answered Jiseok met Beomgyu by coincidence, bumping into each other at a random park in the middle of the city. "Kid," greeted Jiseok as he recognized Beomgyu, hiding a smile behind a smirk. "Captain," came the reply back from Beomgyu as he let a rare smile appear as the corners of his lips went upwards. "What brings you out this way?" Asked Jiseok. "We switched places with Yuri," replied Beomgyu as he shrugged, leaning against the low lying wall behind him. "We?" Asked Jiseok as he raised an eyebrow. "Seongyoon's pet decided to come along," responded Beomgyu as he shrugged. "Huh," hummed Jiseok. "I guess the bag you have contains the fox's stuff," remarked Jiseok. "Yep, we're going to need a place to stash it, you still got the apartment over here?" Asked Beomgyu. "I do," hummed Jiseok. "I'll be leaving for China within the next couple days anyway, I'm waiting on Jooyeon to show up," he added. "Where'd he go?" Asked Beomgyu. "He [i was] in North Korea for a bit, but I don't know where he went after meeting up with Baekjin," Jiseok answered with a shrug. "Ah," hummed Beomgyu. "You know where the keys are," stated Jiseok as he and Beomgyu walked around for a bit before Beomgyu had to try and find Youngtaek. "I do," hummed Beomgyu as he nodded. "Good, then I shall leave you to it," Jiseok responded as he nodded, turning and heading the other direction. [center ~] After finding Youngtaek at a food stand eating something Beomgyu couldn't quite see due to it being wrapped in paper they headed off after Youngtaek paid for his food. "Where are we going now?" Asked Youngtaek. "I ran into Jiseok," responded Beomgyu. "He still has his apartment here, so we're going to get situated there before beginning our adventures," he added. "I get to sleep in a bed for once?" Asked Youngtaek. Beomgyu nodded. "Yep," he responded, shrugging. "I never slept in a bed before," mumbled Youngtaek. "Really?" Asked Beomgyu as he hid a look of surprise. "I got a dog bed at best," answered Youngtaek. "Oi," growled Beomgyu. "It seems like I need to have a chat with Seongyoon when we head back," he growled. "I'm used to it, it's fine," grumbled Youngtaek. "Kit," stated Beomgyu as he glared at something ahead of them. "[i No one] deserves to sleep on a dog bed," he growled. "No matter who you are," he added. "Did you sleep in a bed?" Asked Youngtaek. "I slept in a cot when I was in military school," came the reply as Beomgyu stopped in front of an apartment building. "But when I was home I did have a bed," he added. Youngtaek hummed in response. After heading into the apartment building up to the last floor and getting the hidden key Beomgyu went to unlock and open the door, letting Youngtaek enter the studio apartment first so he could look around. "This place is tiny," remarked Youngtaek as he looked around. "Well, we don't really need much," responded Beomgyu as he set the bag down next to the door as he turned on the lights, closing the door and making sure to lock it before turning around at the sound of Youngtaek flopping down on the bed with a content sigh. "Having fun?" Asked Beomgyu. "Mhm," hummed Youngtaek as he curled up into a ball on the bed. "Get some sleep then," Beomgyu stated, sighing as he went to the bathroom to take a shower. "We leave tomorrow," he called from the bathroom. Youngtaek grumbled, though he turned over onto his back as he stretched out on the bed. He listened to the shower turn on before getting up and going to the kitchen to see if there was any food. "I should've expected no food," he muttered, sighing in exasperation before going to flop down on the bed to wait for Beomgyu to come out of the shower before taking his turn. [center ~] Beomgyu didn't even take that long in the shower, but when he came out after getting dressed Youngtaek was fast asleep, softly mumbling in his sleep as he had an arm covering his eyes. Beomgyu was tempted to wake him up but decided against it, going to lay down on the couch after fishing out the zippo lighter from the bag and gripping it in his left hand as he lay his arm across his stomach. He decided to close his eyes and zone out, ignoring the world around him for a few hours. [center ~] [i Beomgyu watched Soobin and Taehyun playfully argue about where to go next, the same zippo lighter in his hand as he flipped open the cap before closing it, repeating the process out of boredom more than anything. "You're always fidgeting with that thing," stated Soobin as he walked over after they decided on where to go. "What's the story behind that lighter anyway?" He asked. "Ah, this thing?" Asked Beomgyu as he held up the lighter, flipping the cap closed before flipping it between his fingers and putting it back in his pants pocket. "It was Kai's wasn't it?" Asked Taehyun as he walked over. "No, actually," answered Beomgyu as he shrugged. "It's Yeonjun's," he added after thinking it over. "You were friends in the army?" Asked Soobin as he looked confused. "Sort of?" Asked Beomgyu. "We sort of bonded, since he had you and I had Kai," he added. "He gave it to me as a parting gift, after being discharged from the army anyway," he hummed. "I was going to give it back to him, to give it to Kai to have something to remember me by," he explained. "Ah," hummed Taehyun.] [center ~] Movement caused Beomgyu to open his eyes, zoning back in as he turned his head to see Youngtaek getting up and walk over to his bag to grab some clothes before walking into the bathroom to shower. He looked down at his left hand where the lighter was still clutched tightly in before he moved that arm to put the lighter into his pocket and sit up. He moved to where he was leaning against the back of the couch, a strange sense of deja vu coursing through his body as he took in his surroundings. "Ah," hummed Beomgyu as he realized what he was looking at. "Gunil's house," he grumbled, a dry chuckle escaping him as he got up, stretching as he felt the locket move slightly. He raised his arm, gently touching the small leather cord around his neck that held the locket, letting out a soft breath as he fell back against the couch. His arm sort of fell against the couch cushion as he fought down a whimper that threatened to escape him, biting down on his lip hard before he took a deep breath to try and calm himself down. It was what Youngtaek had come out of the bathroom after getting dressed to, looking surprised at the state Beomgyu was in. "Kid?" He asked. "Hm?" Asked Beomgyu as he looked up at Youngtaek, not really focusing on him. "Are you okay?" Asked Youngtaek. Beomgyu nodded, not trusting his voice at the moment. "...Do you want to talk about it?" Asked Youngtaek as he sat down at the edge of the bed, looking at Beomgyu. Beomgyu shook his head no. "I'm here if you need someone to talk to," assured Youngtaek as he observed Beomgyu. "I know," breathed Beomgyu as he closed his eyes. "Just- give me a few minutes okay?" He asked, his voice soft and barely audible as he tried to bring in his emotions. "Sure kid," Youngtaek replied with a soft sigh, moving to lay down on the bed with his legs hanging off the end.

[center Chapter 6] Beomgyu was acting weird, and Youngtaek didn't know what to do about the situation. He knew better than to pry about the weird behavior, but it didn't mean he wasn't worried about Beomgyu. "Kid," stated Youngtaek as he stood in front of Beomgyu who was still sitting on the couch. "You okay?" He asked. Beomgyu nodded, looking down at his lap with a soft sigh. "Are you sure you're okay? You haven't hunted since we arrived here," remarked Youngtaek. "I'll hunt when I need to," mumbled Beomgyu. "Kid," sighed Youngtaek. "Get up," he demanded, grabbing Beomgyu by the arm and pulling him to stand up. "Go hunt, you need to hunt," he added. "Fine," grumbled Beomgyu as he went to put on his shoes, soon leaving the apartment and closing the door behind him. Youngtaek watched him go, listening as Beomgyu's footsteps faded away before going to lock the door, moving to sit down on the couch with a sigh. [center ~] Beomgyu couldn't bring himself to hunt, walking around instead as he fidgeted with the lighter in his pocket. A small part of him wanted nothing more than to leave the city all together and leave Youngtaek but another part of him needed to stay for the sake of convenience, as even [i he] didn't want to leave to head back this soon. His thirst wasn't even flaring up like it usually did, so Beomgyu just walked around in a daze, reminiscing about old memories and times when things were honestly better for him. He continued to wander around, getting lost in his thoughts as he walked around the city. [center ~] "Was I too demanding?" Grumbled Youngtaek as he paced around the livingroom. "I should've just went with him," he sighed out as he went to put his shoes on before heading out the door after grabbing his wallet. He made sure the door was locked with the spare key he had found in one of the drawers by the bed before leaving the apartment after pocketing the key to find Beomgyu and possibly some food. As he wandered around, following Beomgyu's scent Youngtaek picked up on another, more familiar scent as he looked around in confusion. It was another fox 'shifter, and Youngtaek recognized it, as the scent belonged to Bomin. He looked around before spotting a familiar face. "Bomin!" Called Youngtaek as he ran over to Bomin. Bomin turned around, blinking in surprise at Youngtaek. "What are you doing here?" Asked Bomin. "I should ask you the same thing," retorted Youngtaek as a grin appeared on his face. "It's been a long time," he added. "I'm guessing you're not with Seongyoon anymore?" Asked Bomin as he walked with Youngtaek. "No," hummed Youngtaek. "I stopped being with him after leaving with Jangjun," he added. "I'm with someone else though, since I stopped being with Jangjun later," he said, sighing a bit. "There you are," came a voice as Beomgyu walked over with Daeyeol. "Did you finally hunt?" Asked Youngtaek as he turned to Beomgyu. "I did," came the reply as Beomgyu shrugged. "Good," Youngtaek said with a relieved sigh. That earned a raised eyebrow from both Bomin and Daeyeol, something that both Beomgyu and Youngtaek ignored as they stared at each other for a few seconds before Youngtaek broke the gaze first. "Why don't you go get something to eat," Daeyeol said to Bomin who shrugged. "I was going to, when I ran into this one," replied Bomin as he nodded to Youngtaek. "Oi, I have a name," growled Youngtaek. "You coming to get food or not?" Asked Bomin as he turned to Youngtaek. "I can go with you?" Asked Youngtaek as he perked up, looking at Bomin before turning to Beomgyu. Bomin looked at Beomgyu who shrugged. "Go with them," said Beomgyu as he nodded to Youngtaek. "Sweet!" Shouted Youngtaek as he jumped at the opportunity, taking Bomin by the arm and dragging him down the street, going the opposite direction. Daeyeol and Beomgyu shook their heads in amusement before walking a different direction. [center ~] "What's up with you and Beomgyu anyway?" Asked Bomin as he and Youngtaek got food at a food stand and sat nearby to eat it. "What do you mean?" Asked Youngtaek. "I've never seen you so [i concerned] for someone, even someone like him," commented Bomin. "What's wrong with that?" Asked Youngtaek. "Nothing," answered Bomin. "You've never had to deal with someone like him is all," he added. "What is that supposed to mean?" Asked Youngtaek. "You'll find out I'm sure," stated Bomin as he shrugged, finishing his food and going to pay for it before throwing it away. Youngtaek blinked at Bomin as he walked off, quickly finishing his food as he got up and went to pay for it. He threw away the wrapper before rushing to catch up with Bomin, soon walking beside him. [center ~] "Why did you lie to him?" Asked Daeyeol as he and Beomgyu walked around the city. "He's been worried," replied Beomgyu as he shrugged. "I wasn't feeling thirsty anyway, so it's fine," he added. "Hm," hummed Daeyeol. "Did you hunt yet?" Asked Beomgyu as he turned to Daeyeol. "I hunted before I entered the city, I'm fine," replied Daeyeol as he shrugged. "Alright," said Beomgyu as he nodded. "Why is he so concerned over you anyway?" Asked Daeyeol. "I honestly don't know," Beomgyu replied, honestly. "If I knew then I'd tell you but I really don't," he added. "Why do you ask?" He asked. "He's never done that for anyone before, even when he was with Seongyoon, and Jangjun for that matter," hummed Daeyeol. "Odd," commented Beomgyu as he looked thoughtful. "Are you sure you don't need to hunt?" Asked Daeyeol. "I'll hunt when I need to," came the reply as Beomgyu nodded. "Don't worry about it," he added. Before they met up with Youngtaek and Bomin Beomgyu did decide to hunt, as his thirst was catching up to him. Daeyeol helped him dispose of the body before they headed back to Jiseok's apartment just in time to run into Bomin and Youngtaek as they stopped in front of the apartment building. "We'll leave you two be then," said Daeyeol as Bomin went to stand with Daeyeol while Beomgyu went to stand with Youngtaek. "Come by Moscow sometime, it's where we're at now," he added. "Sure, we will after these rounds of patrols," replied Beomgyu as he nodded. "I wouldn't mind either," agreed Youngtaek. "I need to go to other places other than St Petersburg," he added. Daeyeol nodded before leaving with Bomin. [center ~] [i Beomgyu stared at Taehyun who was glaring right back at him. "Do you not feel] any [i remorse for what you just did?!" Shouted Taehyun. "Did the army change you that much?" He asked, quieter this time as he resisted the urge to rip Beomgyu to ashes. "I regret it every day," Beomgyu muttered softly as he broke his gaze with Taehyun to stare at his feet. "I'm sorry, for putting this burden on you," he whispered. "You-" started Taehyun as Beomgyu turned and sprinted off, soon disappearing from view.] [center ~] Beomgyu stared at the locket as he held it up to his face while lying down on the couch, huffing out a soft sigh as he let it drop to his chest. Youngtaek was currently fast asleep on the bed, snoring softly as he was curled up in a ball. Beomgyu turned and faced the back of the couch, closing his eyes and zoning out. [center ~] [i Soobin was more harsh on him than Taehyun was, but he didn't just shout at Beomgyu. That wasn't even something he was capable of, according to Taehyun. The normally composed Soobin had outright punched Beomgyu in the face after what he had done. "After everything, instead of being happy for Kai you killed him?" He asked, his voice full of anger and sadness. "It was a stupid reaction I know," grumbled Beomgyu as he rubbed his cheek. "All that anger just built up and I-," he started before Soobin punched him again sending him into the tree behind him. "Just go," growled Soobin. "I don't want to hear your excuses, so just leave," he spat. Beomgyu sighed, nodding as he pushed away from the tree with some effort before he turned and sprinted off, knowing that Soobin telling him to leave was the last straw.] [center ~] "Kid," Youngtaek said softly, shaking Beomgyu as he had woken up to Beomgyu whimpering in his zone out mode. "Come on, zone back in," he muttered, moving away when Beomgyu jolted, coming back to the world as he sat up. "I- sorry," Beomgyu mumbled softly as he looked up at Youngtaek who eyed him with concern. "You okay kid?" Asked Youngtaek. "Can you stop calling me kid?" Grumbled Beomgyu, earning a soft chuckle from Youngtaek. "Only if you stop calling me fox," retorted Youngtaek, his expression softening at the laugh that escaped Beomgyu. "Sure fox, sure," replied Beomgyu as he looked away from Youngtaek. Youngtaek snorts, turning and walking back to the bed and sat down on it.

[center Chapter 7] Youngtaek found out some interesting things as he spent time with Beomgyu. He was slowly figuring out who the real Beomgyu was, as even Youngtaek could tell that this mask of sorts Beomgyu wore was just that. A mask. The most interesting thing that Youngtaek had found out was Beomgyu's nickname that most people called him. Beomgyu hated the nickname, but Youngtaek wasn't calling him kid anymore, which Beomgyu was fine with. "Why do you hate it when people call you Gyu?" Asked Youngtaek as he and Beomgyu were taking a stroll along the coast. "It was a nickname my brother gave me," came the reply as Beomgyu looked out at the water. "You'd rather not be reminded of it huh?" Asked Youngtaek. Beomgyu nodded, sighing a bit. "I'll let you call me Gyu, as long as you stop calling me kid," he mumbled, looking back at Youngtaek. "Sure Gyu," Youngtaek said, nodding as he grinned at Beomgyu. "Just don't call me fox anymore," he added. "That's going to be a hard habit to break," Beomgyu commented with a scoff, turning back to look at the water. "Whatever makes you happy kid," Youngtaek said with a smirk as Beomgyu turned and scowled at him. "Stop calling me kid damn it," grumbled Beomgyu. "Stop calling me fox then," retorted Youngtaek. "You're just a fox, and I'm not a kid," explained Beomgyu. "That doesn't make me a [i fox]," growled Youngtaek. "I'm a 'shifter that changes into a fox, there's a difference," he added. "Whatever you say fox," Beomgyu said with a smirk before he continued walking down the coast. Youngtaek let out an exasperated sigh before following after Beomgyu. [center ~] Months of patrolling passed, and Youngtaek was able to get to know Beomgyu throughout this time. Beomgyu refused to talk about his brother though, and Youngtaek didn't pry on the matter. As much as he wanted to, Youngtaek respected Beomgyu's personal life. They built a shaky friendship around respecting each other's privacy and that was enough for the both of them. Youngtaek was more than happy to keep his secrets, as he knew that he could share them with Beomgyu without Beomgyu judging him for it. He also knew that Beomgyu would share with him some of his secrets, eventually. "We'll be heading back soon," announced Beomgyu as he walked into the apartment. "It's time to go already?" Asked Youngtaek as he looked up at Beomgyu from his spot on the bed. "Yeah," came the reply as Beomgyu sat down on the couch. "Are we taking the train again?" Asked Youngtaek. "Straight to Moscow," confirmed Beomgyu as he nodded. "Sweet," cheered Youngtaek. "I'll go get the food ready, you hunt, and I'll meet you at the station," he said, getting to his feet. "Sure fox," Beomgyu said with a small chuckle, earning a scowl from Youngtaek. "Let's clean up first," he added. Youngtaek nodded and rushed to clean up with Beomgyu helping and leaving as soon as he was done, trusting that Youngtaek could get the pack ready and meet him at the train station. [center ~] Beomgyu finished hunting and was heading back to the train station when someone called his name. "Hey Gyu!" Shouted a voice somewhere behind Beomgyu. Beomgyu turned around to see a familiar face, the corners of his lips going up in a grin as he recognized who it was. "Jangjun!" He greeted as Jangjun walked over with Keonhee. "What brings you here?" Asked Beomgyu. "I'm taking your spot," replied Jangjun as he shrugged, coming to a stop in front of Beomgyu. Keonhee stopped beside him, sitting down and watching Beomgyu with a tilt of his head. "Youngtaek is going to miss you coming to take our place," hummed Beomgyu. "Youngtaek is with you now?" Asked Jangjun. "For a bit," responded Beomgyu as he nodded. "Good to know he is with someone now," hummed Jangjun. "Someone like him can't be without someone to follow," he added. "Like how Keonhee is with you?" Asked Beomgyu as he bent down in front of Keonhee and pet him on the head. "I don't even know if he can return to human form at this point," hummed Jangjun as he looked down at Keonhee. "He's a good companion, but it's been a few months since he was last in human form," he added. "Huh," hummed Beomgyu. "Jangjun!" Called another voice as Youngtaek ran over, grinning as he came to a stop in front of Jangjun. "Hey Youngtaek," greeted Jangjun as he nodded at Youngtaek. "I guess you're taking our spot," remarked Youngtaek. "Yep," hummed Jangjun. "We should get going then," said Beomgyu as he got up, nodding to Jangjun. "Have fun," he added. "You too," replied Jangjun as Beomgyu and Youngtaek headed into the train station. [center ~] Beomgyu didn't end up in Moscow, as he wanted to stop by the fort to see how things were. He knew he swore he wouldn't come back, but Soobin had asked for him and Beomgyu wondered what it was for. Youngtaek was with him like usual, but that was expected now. Beomgyu was fine with his presence, and vice versa. "This is where you grew up?" Asked Youngtaek as they stood on the outskirts of town. "Yeah, but I'm originally from St Petersburg," hummed Beomgyu as he looked around before running around towards the fort. Youngtaek rushed after him, thankful for the speed that the chip gave him for once. When they reached the fort Soobin was kneeling at the fire pit, lighting a piece of bark with a match and throwing it into the pile and moving away as it lit up. "You managed to get away from him again huh?" Asked Beomgyu as he walked over, coming to a stop across the fire pit from Soobin with Youngtaek standing beside him as he came to a stop. "Oh no, Taehyun's here," responded Soobin as he looked up at Beomgyu. Beomgyu raised an eyebrow, turning when he heard footsteps. "I didn't think you'd actually show up," remarked Taehyun as he walked over, going to stand beside Soobin. Youngtaek eyed Taehyun before looking at Beomgyu who tensed at his presence. "Taehyun," greeted Beomgyu. "Gyu," greeted Taehyun. "So what'd you ask for my presence for?" Asked Beomgyu. "You were wondering where Yeonjun ended up at, and he's still in the country," replied Soobin. "He's somewhere near the Sea of Japan, Vladivostok I think," he added. "We were just over there," remarked Beomgyu. "I guess we didn't see him because we were up and down the coast over there," he added. "But that isn't the only thing you needed me here for," stated Beomgyu as he looked at Soobin. "No," hummed Soobin as he reached into his pocket and brought out a small photo before handing it to Beomgyu who looked at the picture, his breath getting caught in his throat as he recognized the picture. "I figured you'd want this one," explained Soobin as Beomgyu put the picture in his pocket. "Thanks," mumbled Beomgyu as he tried not to sound emotional. Soobin nodded. "Junhan took that picture," he explained. "I know, I was there for it," muttered Beomgyu. "So where are you headed to next?" Asked Taehyun as everyone now sat down around the fire. "Back to Moscow for a bit before I decide on whether I should leave the country for a bit or not," hummed Beomgyu. "Apparently I'm needed to talk to some people over in Canada so," he added, shrugging. "I wonder who could be asking for you over there?" Asked Soobin. "I don't know, but I'm needed," hummed Beomgyu. [center ~] After leaving the two friends to whatever they needed to do Beomgyu and Youngtaek left, heading back to Moscow with Youngtaek in his fox form running along side him. When they reached Moscow Beomgyu left Youngtaek to change and get dressed while Beomgyu went to find a clear case for his phone. "Are we going straight to Canada from here or are we stopping somewhere?" Asked Youngtaek after he found Beomgyu wandering around Moscow. "We're heading to Berlin first," replied Beomgyu as he turned to Youngtaek. "Oh, cool," hummed Youngtaek. "Also, what was on that picture?" Asked Youngtaek as he walked with Beomgyu. "It's a group picture," hummed Beomgyu as he took out his phone, turning it over to show the picture. "It's one of the few pictures we had of Gunil," he added. "Is that Kai?" Asked Youngtaek as he pointed to the one person sitting down in the middle of the group. "Yeah, and I'm behind him," replied Beomgyu as he nodded. "Taehyun and Soobin look so much happier here," remarked Youngtaek as he noticed Taehyun and Soobin standing to the right of Beomgyu, along with someone Youngtaek didn't recognize. "Who's that beside Soobin?" He asked. "That's Yeonjun," replied Beomgyu. "Ah," hummed Youngtaek. "And then we have Gunil and Jiseok," pointed out Beomgyu as he pointed to the two standing on the left side of Beomgyu. "I see that," hummed Youngtaek. "What was the occasion?" He asked. "I think it was just before Gunil started training Yunho," hummed Beomgyu. "All of us had gone to visit Kai, and Junhan happened to be in town that day so we managed to get a group photo," he explained. "Huh," hummed Youngtaek. [center ~] Beomgyu couldn't leave Moscow without visiting Daeyeol and Bomin, at Youngtaek's insistence anyway. Beomgyu needed to hunt, so Daeyeol accompanied him while Bomin and Youngtaek walked around for a while. "You staying for a few days?" Asked Bomin as he and Youngtaek stopped at a food stand to eat. "Probably," hummed Youngtaek. "I don't know if Beomgyu wants me to go with him, but it seems like he'll let me," he added. "My papers are in my bag at least," he hummed. [center ~] "You taking the fox with you?" Asked Daeyeol after he helped Beomgyu dispose of the body. "I am, yeah," replied Beomgyu as he nodded. "He's been out of Europe at least right?" He asked. "No," Daeyeol responded with a sigh. "This will be his first trip outside of Europe," he added. "Well, this will be interesting," hummed Beomgyu as he walked with Daeyeol. "He really is a sheltered fox," he added. "Really," Daeyeol remarked with a scoff. "But you're helping him learn of the world outside of Russia," he added. "Hm," hummed Beomgyu.

[center Chapter 8] After getting his papers from Berlin Beomgyu and Youngtaek got on a plane headed to Toronto. Business class it was, and Youngtaek was excited for it. He had never been on a plane before, let alone business class. Beomgyu was more than willing to share his meals with Youngtaek, knowing how much 'shifters could eat, and Youngtaek gladly took the food. Youngtaek was ecstatic about how cool business class was. Beomgyu remembered the feeling of his first business class trip, and didn't bother to try and calm the hyper fox down. He just let Youngtaek be excited, knowing that Youngtaek could be calm when needed. [center ~] Landing in Toronto brought new curiosities within Youngtaek as he and Beomgyu left the terminal after landing and going to the entrance after making sure they had everything. "Where are we heading to?" Asked Youngtaek as Beomgyu hailed a cab and got in with Youngtaek getting in on the other side. "We're headed to a Starbucks," responded Beomgyu as he handed the address to the cab driver, settling into his seat afterwards. "Why there?" Asked Youngtaek as he watched the scenery go by. "So you can relax a bit and I can get to hunting," hummed Beomgyu. "Ah, right, I forget you need to hunt sometimes," mumbled Youngtaek. "How could you forget something like [i that] of all things?" Asked Beomgyu as he shook his head in exasperation. "I forget okay?" Asked Youngtaek. After getting dropped off at the Starbucks Youngtaek headed in while Beomgyu went off to hunt, leaving the city since he had to hunt animals. Youngtaek ended up getting a Frappuccino, sitting down in a chair near the windows after he got his drink. He looked out the window in thought, humming to himself. [center ~] Beomgyu stood in the forest as Chani stood in front of him, staring him down. "You're early," commented Chani as he tilted his head to the side. "We took the first flight here from Berlin," Beomgyu replied, speaking in Russian accented English. "We?" Asked Chani as he raised an eyebrow. "I brought along a fox 'shifter who's never been out of the country, let alone Europe," hummed Beomgyu as he shrugged. "I see," muttered Chani. "Let's go hunt then," he added after a minute of contemplation, turning and sprinting off to hunt. Beomgyu soon sprinted after him, the both of them finding a herd of deer to go after. [center ~] When they returned to Toronto, and the Starbucks that Chani owned, Youngtaek was sitting there tapping his foot as he looked bored out of his mind. "You could've come with me you know," remarked Beomgyu as he sat down in front of Youngtaek. "I didn't want to disturb your hunt," explained Youngtaek as he shrugged. "Well, you would've been able to get some sleep," remarked Chani as he shrugged, walking over and sitting down between Beomgyu and Youngtaek. "Ah, I really didn't want to bother," replied Youngtaek, speaking English with a Norwegian accent. "You're from Norway?" Asked Chani. "Yeah, born and raised," replied Youngtaek. "I went to Russia after a few years though, and I've been there ever since," he added. "Interesting," hummed Chani. [center ~] "So what did you need me here for?" Asked Beomgyu as he and Chani sat down on the front porch swing of Chani's house. "Ah, Junhan stopped by," explained Chani. "Oh?" Asked Beomgyu. "He was here to drop off Gunil's rifle," explained Chani. "Giving it to Yunho?" Asked Beomgyu. Chani nodded. "He also dropped off a letter," he added. "Really?" Asked Beomgyu. "It's from someone named Kai? That's what he explained anyway," explained Chani as he handed over an envelope. Beomgyu gently took the envelope, looking at it with apprehension as he let out a soft sigh. "I guess he forgot to give it to you," hummed Chani. "No, there was a reason for this letter," muttered Beomgyu. "I'll leave you to it then," said Chani as he got up, heading back into the house. Beomgyu looked at the familiar messy handwriting that belonged to his brother before turning the envelope over and gently tearing it open, taking out a piece of folded paper and unfolding it, reading the contents within. [center ~] [i Gyu, If you're reading this I'm probably dead. Or it's been years since we've last seen each other and I had Junhan pass on this letter. Or Junhan forgot to give you this letter and handed it over to someone who would be able to give it to you. I don't know. Your world is complicated. I wanted to tell you that I've always forgiven you for what you did. I was the perfect child, the favorite. But we know that you were the favorite. Our parents tried to protect you, you see. They knew of what you were doing to me. But I guess you never knew that. You ended up in the army anyway. I guess you never realized that huh? Military school was supposed to turn you away from the army. You ended up joining anyway. It's okay. You came back better than before at least. You're able to control that temper more.] "I don't think so," grumbled Beomgyu as he sighed. "I couldn't control my temper enough to keep from killing you," he muttered, shaking his head as he continued reading. [i But what I really admire is what you've done to change yourself after the accident. I may have faked being with the mindset of a child's but you were putting in the effort to change. Soobin was a good influence on you. So was Jiseok. I forgive you okay? Don't beat yourself up over my passing, or what you've had to go through since we've last seen each other. You're still family to me. I don't care what others think. Your brother, Kai] Beomgyu was tempted to tear up the letter, but he folded it back up and put it back in the envelope instead. He took out the zippo lighter from his pants pocket, opening it and striking the lighter section. He watched as a flame appeared and decided to light the envelope on fire, erasing what was probably the last thing he had of Kai's. He let the burning envelope fly from his finger tips thanks to a small breeze before putting the lighter back in his pocket after closing the lid. "You okay Gyu?" Asked Youngtaek as he left the house, closing the door before sitting on the porch swing beside Beomgyu. "I don't know honestly," hummed Beomgyu as he stared out at the forest in front of him. "Well, I'm here," said Youngtaek as he looked at Beomgyu before turning to look at the forest in front of him. "I know, I know," whispered Beomgyu as he closed his eyes, leaning his head back as he faced the ceiling.

[center Chapter 9] "Can you tell me about your brother?" Asked Youngtaek. "What was he like? Who he was to you, all that," he added as Beomgyu turned to him. "Why do you want to know?" Beomgyu asked, his head tilting to the side. "He just seemed like a cool person," explained Youngtaek. "You seemed to speak highly of him anyway," he added. "Kai was one of the best brothers I have come to care for," mumbled Beomgyu as he thought it over. "I wouldn't've traded him for the world," he added. "What happened to him, if you don't mind me asking?" Asked Youngtaek. "Well," hummed Beomgyu as he tried to think of an answer. "Before we get into that, I have to explain to you that I was young and stupid,"  explained Beomgyu as he let out a deep breath. "Okay," replied Youngtaek. "I wasn't the best brother growing up," started Beomgyu as he looked up at the porch ceiling above them. "I used to beat my brother a lot, dealing with neglect because our parents favored him over me," he explained. "Before you judge me for it, I've always had anger issues," he added. "Being neglected didn't help whatsoever, so I had to take my anger out on [i someone]," he explained. "Who did you do it to first?" Asked Youngtaek. "Taehyun," replied Beomgyu. "He fought back though, and earned my respect," he added. "Then I targeted Soobin," he explained. "It wasn't until Taehyun stepped up for him that I started going after Kai," he muttered. "Behind closed doors I'd take out my frustrations on Kai, but I didn't beat him nearly as bad as some of the others," Beomgyu hummed as he shifted in his seat. "Deep down I think I still cared for him back then, because he was my brother," he explained. "Something happened to make you change," stated Youngtaek. "Yes," said Beomgyu. "One day while we were at school it came to an end when I cornered him in the stairwell around the upper floors of the school," he explained. [center ~] [i "Why don't you understand that I'm doing this to you for a reason?!" Shouted Beomgyu as he shoved Kai against the wall. "You've always been the favorite, the baby," he almost snarled out as Kai just stared at him with those] damn eyes. [i "You're such an] idiot[i ," he growled, grabbing Kai by the shirt and lifting him up before slamming him into the wall again. "I- it's okay," said Kai. "You can take out your frustrations on me," he mumbled, wincing as Beomgyu punched the wall beside his head. "I'm only frustrated because you won't] fight back[i ," snarled Beomgyu as he pulled Kai away from the wall before throwing him against it again. Kai stumbled, tripping over his own feet as he fell, grabbing onto the railing as he went tumbling down the stairs, his head hitting each step it seemed before he hit the wall at the next landing. Beomgyu stood there stunned as he realized he had gone too far this time. "No...no...no!" He screamed as he hopped down the stairs to the next landing, almost slamming into the wall beside Kai as he landed. "Kai, stay with me kid, please!" He shouted, grabbing onto his brother's shirt as he slightly shook him. "Come on, come on!" He screamed as teachers entered the stairwell when they heard the screaming.] [center ~] "Damn," was all Youngtaek could say as he took in what he was told. "Kai ended up with a pretty bad brain injury that left his mind that of a child's," explained Beomgyu as he took a deep breath. "I didn't get to see him grow up, but I came back after graduating from military school to tell him that I was joining the army," he added. "And then everything happened with you and the others huh?" Asked Youngtaek. Beomgyu nodded, looking down at his lap. "I still wonder why Jiseok chose me out of all people, hell I think Yeonjun would've been a better choice after what happened," he hummed. "So what happened to Kai afterwards?" Asked Youngtaek. "Nothing," answered Beomgyu as he shrugged. "Nothing really happened, I had Junhan keep an eye on him while he was keeping an eye on Yeonjun at Soobin's request," he added. "We went to visit him sometime later and that's when I learned the truth," started Beomgyu as he looked thoughtful. [center ~] [i "Gyu," said Kai as he sat beside his brother. "What's wrong Kai?" Asked Beomgyu as he turned to look at Kai. "I-I have to tell you something," mumbled Kai as he looked down at his lap. "What's up?" Asked Beomgyu as he looked concerned. "I-I've been feeling better since... Since you graduated," mumbled Kai as he flinched at the sudden intake of breath from Beomgyu. "You- You changed for the better, and- I was- I was afraid you'd go back to your old ways," he quickly tried to explain as Beomgyu took in this information. "You've been normal this whole time?" Asked Beomgyu. "Well, ever since you came to tell me you were going into the army," mumbled Kai. "You- You changed for the better, I-," he started as Beomgyu moved away from Kai, getting up and walking away from him. "Do you realize the] hell [i you put me through?!" Shouted Beomgyu as he turned to Kai, his eyes pitch black in fury as his vampire side came forward. Kai flinched, mumbling out apologies. "Sorry isn't going to cut it Kai," snarled Beomgyu as he rushed forward, grabbing Kai by the neck and lifting him up. "Sorry isn't going to take away] years [i of me beating myself up for what happened, nor is it going to take away what happened in the past," he snarled out as he rushed forward with Kai and slammed him into a tree with a frustrated growl. Kai tried to grip onto his arm, trying to get Beomgyu to let go as he struggled to breathe.] [center ~] "What happened after that?" Asked Youngtaek as Beomgyu stopped speaking, taking a shaky breath as he tried to explain what happened. "I don't remember," mumbled Beomgyu. "I lost my memory from there since I blacked out from the rage, but I remember coming back to Kai going limp in my arms after I completely drained him," he explained, clenching his hands into fists. "It was an [i accident]," he muttered. "But I killed him... I should've just let him live," he whispered, a sob escaping him as he remembered the event. [center ~] [i "K-Kai?" Asked Beomgyu as he dropped Kai's lifeless body to the ground. What had he done? He couldn't remember what happened. "What the hell?" He whispered, quickly going to shake his brother. "Kai?!" He shouted, listening as footsteps came up behind him. "What the hell did you] do[i ?!" Shouted Taehyun as he grabbed Beomgyu and yanked him away from Kai's body. "I-I don't remember," whispered Beomgyu as he looked down at his bloody hands. "I-," he started as Soobin ran over to check on Kai, shaking his head at Taehyun. "You killed him?" Asked Taehyun as he turned his attention to Beomgyu. "It was an accident-," Beomgyu tried to explain before being slammed into a tree by Taehyun. "You killed your own] brother[i ?!" Shouted Taehyun.] [center ~] "They kicked me out after that, I didn't argue with them," mumbled Beomgyu as he sniffled, refusing to look at Youngtaek. "It was an accident," Youngtaek said gently. "You didn't know how you'd react to what you've been told," he added. "They didn't think so though," grumbled Beomgyu. "They were shocked at what happened," muttered Youngtaek. "They didn't know how else to react to it," he added.

[center Chapter 10] "Well, now that you know about me, tell me about yourself," said Beomgyu as he walked around Toronto with Youngtaek. "I don't know what you want me to say," hummed Youngtaek. "My past isn't as... Bad I guess," he added. "I mean, it's not as bad compared to yours," Youngtaek added quickly. "I wasn't part of Seongyoon's coven until much later, when I went to Russia," he explained. "What caused you to join his coven anyway?" Asked Beomgyu. "I was rescued by Seongyoon, and was given the chip after a bad accident," explained Youngtaek. "I don't remember what the accident was, but I know I couldn't walk," he added. "I'm forever indebted to him, despite the fact that I don't follow him anymore like I used to," Youngtaek explained as Beomgyu tilted his head to the side in thought. "Who's the main holder of the chips?" Asked Beomgyu. "It's Bomin, actually," replied Youngtaek. "So I'm protected as it is, if Seongyoon was going to try something," he added. "Daeyeol says that the kill switches were turned off, so I'm fine with that," hummed Youngtaek. "I am just happy to be able to walk, you know?" He asked. "I understand that," hummed Beomgyu as he nodded. "Then you'll know that a fox 'shifter with my kind of genes is rare," said Youngtaek as he turned to Beomgyu. "You have the genes of a 9 tailed fox?" Asked Beomgyu as he tilted his head to the side. Youngtaek nodded. "The three of us, Bomin, Jangjun and I, do," he replied with a shrug. "Interesting," hummed Beomgyu. "They don't exist anymore, but they sort of exist through us fox 'shifters," explained Youngtaek. "I'm pretty sure Bomin's the oldest right now, along with his brother," he added. "Hm," hummed Beomgyu. "But not every fox 'shifter has 9 tailed fox genes," he remarked. "Nope," replied Youngtaek. "Interesting," remarked Beomgyu. Youngtaek shrugged, like it wasn't a big deal. [center ~] It took some time before Beomgyu felt like leaving Canada all together, switching out the pack for a smaller and lighter one that was big enough to hold two sets of clothes, one for Youngtaek and one for himself. Youngtaek's shoes would be tied to the bottom of the pack and that was fine with Youngtaek. "Where are we going?" Asked Youngtaek. "We're heading south, to the states," came the reply as Beomgyu turned away to let Youngtaek strip and change after he folded his clothes up. Beomgyu turned around and went to put Youngtaek's clothes into the pack and tied his shoes to the bottom of the pack before putting the straps on his shoulders. "Ready fox?" Beomgyu asked with a smirk after adjusting the pack and making sure his phone was secure in his pants pocket. Youngtaek growled, but nodded in response, causing Beomgyu to turn and sprint off at full speed. Youngtaek pushed to run after him, using a burst of speed thanks to the computer chip in his spine to easily keep up with Beomgyu. [center ~] After stopping in the Rockies to make sure the pack there was fine with him hunting humans Beomgyu hunted in Denver, Colorado before moving on, heading southeast now as he headed towards Louisiana to catch up with an old friend. Youngtaek followed him without complaint, though Beomgyu did stop for a while so that Youngtaek could catch up on sleep and regain some energy while Beomgyu hunted. After that though, they continued on to Louisiana to meet up with this friend of Beomgyu's. Youngtaek didn't know anyone, so he was sure that Beomgyu was leading him to meet new people. He just hoped they were fine with him, as he was a new person to most of the people he had met so far. [center ~] Taking a canoe up the river to where they needed to go, Beomgyu had been looking more and more excited to meet up with this friend Youngtaek had never seen or heard of. "He's an old friend from military school," explained Beomgyu as he rowed his way up the river while Youngtaek kept an eye on their surroundings. "Really? Down here in the swamps of Louisiana?" Asked Youngtaek. "Heesung is special," Beomgyu commented with a snort, earning a raised eyebrow from Youngtaek as he turned to Beomgyu before turning back to the front. [center ~] "Hyung! Your vampire friend is here!" Someone shouted from the dock that Beomgyu maneuvered the canoe to sit against. "Hello Niki," greeted Beomgyu as Niki went to tie the boat to the dock. "Gyu," greeted Niki as he grinned at him. Beomgyu made sure it was stable before handing Niki his pack and climbing out, helping Youngtaek out of the canoe. "Gyu!" Came the greeting as Heesung ran over with someone. "Hey Heesung, Jay," greeted Beomgyu as he bumped fists with Heesung before turning and doing the same with Jay. "Long time no see," commented Heesung as he tilted his head to the side. "I wasn't able to leave the country until a few weeks ago," came the reply from Beomgyu as he shrugged. "I know I have a German citizenship but I needed to do a few things first," he added. "Hm," hummed Heesung as he turned to Youngtaek. "This one with you?" Asked Jay as he too noticed Youngtaek. "He is," Beomgyu replied with a shrug. Youngtaek eyed the both of them with his head tilted to the side, wondering what they would say. "Welcome to the states," greeted Jay as he grinned at Youngtaek. "Thanks," mumbled Youngtaek as he grinned back. "Don't mind him, he's never been out of Europe before," explained Beomgyu. "Oi, we need to introduce you to stuff we're doing here then," Heesung said, nodding. "Like what?" Asked Youngtaek. "Gator hunting season!" Explained Niki. "All of us are here, and since Jaehwan is busy this year he gave his tags to us," he added. "Gator hunting season?" Asked Youngtaek. "It's something the 'shifters do here when they're not busy with missions," explained Beomgyu. "It's why I came down," he added. "We're usually done by the first week though, since it's all of us," explained a new voice as Jungwon walked over with Sunghoon and Sunoo. "We have an odd number of people this year," he remarked. "I'm with Heesung this year, you know this," explained Beomgyu. "Of course," replied Jungwon as he nodded. "The fox is with you too then?" He asked. Beomgyu nodded. "You can be our mascot," explained Heesung as he grinned at Youngtaek. "Mascot?" Youngtaek asked in horror as he look offended. "Mr. Fox the mascot," Heesung said with a snicker, earning a sigh from Youngtaek. "Leave it," commanded Beomgyu. "He's only joking around," he explained. "Right, right," grumbled Youngtaek.
