Knight Cookie had a bright smile on his face while he walked alongside Almond Cookie during one of their assigned patrols, cheerfully talking away about the handful of adventures he had gone on not too long ago, as per the request of Princess Cookie. He didn't speak enough to annoy, though he surely chatted as much as he was short, but despite his almost borderline carelessness while talking, he kept a keen eye out for any potential danger; one couldn't blame him for speaking so much though, especially since he had been away for so long. He was happy to see his friend once again, after all! "So, the minute I returned back to the castle after slicing off the dragon's tail, guess who pulls me into her shop? [i Mont Blanc Cookie!] And she doesn't explain [i why] at first, all she did was sift through the dressed-up mannequins she has, which confused me greatly. It took her a second, but she handed me this!" Knight continued on with his story, gesturing to the icy blue variation of his typical set of armour. "Isn't it amazing?? She's so cool; I wonder how she can make an [i entire kingdom's] outfits and [i not] go crazy while doing so. I can't even begin to imagine how many peoples' measurements she has to keep up with, let alone tailor for!"
Almond Cookie chuckled lightly as he sipped his coffee, humming to himself before yawning softly. "That's nice." He hummed out, watching him for a moment before feeling a dizzy spell hit him harshly. It made him sway a bit before he groaned and managed to sit down without completely spilling the coffee he had all over himself, wincing a bit as he held his head softly. "Ugh..." He groaned gently, putting a hand on his head as he set his coffee cup down. He was exhausted, honestly, and he leaned his head back against the cool surface of the wall he'd sat against.
Knight swiftly turned his head and froze in his tracks, worry filling his gaze instantaneously as he took a few small steps closer to the detective Cookie. "Man, you look tired... Let's get you home before you pass out; I'll worry about telling Blackberry Cookie that you left patrol because needed to sleep." He suggested, offering out a hand for support to get Almond back on his feet, deciding against scolding him for his evidently poor sleeping schedule. Knight couldn't change that if he wanted to anyway; that was something Almond had to do himself; but he [i could] force him to try and catch up on sleep, especially so seeing him so tired.
"No, I...need to finish patrol." He managed to stand up as he took a soft breath, letting it out in a heavy sigh. "I'll be fine, don't worry about me." He tried his best to smile at him, the Support Cookie managing a smile at him while trying his best to stay upright. He took a sip of his coffee, feeling it energize his body for a moment before it completely gave up and he had to kind of lean into Knight Cookie. "Okay- maybe I do need to sit down for a while." He managed without groaning, putting a hand on his head as he tried his best to stay, well...conscious.
Knight put on a simple, concerned frown to his expression, taking the cup of coffee from Almond Cookie as he sighed out. "You [i are] going home to rest, Al, you don't have a say in this anymore. I'm truly sorry, but I'm really not," He stated, whistling a high-pitched note to summon his trusty armoured horse out of thin air, swiftly aiding Almond onto the steed the second the horse stood still. He had the detective hug his arms around the horse's neck, distrusting in his abilities to sit upright without falling off with good reason, "How has Pancake not forced you to bed already, though? He'd be so deathly worried to see his great, accomplished father in such a state," Knight commented aloud as he began to walk off in the direction he remembered for Almond Cookie's house to be, his horse obediently trotting behind him without needing to be told to follow.
"I've been giving him to Clover...I don't need Pancake worrying about me." He mumbled out quietly, sighing out as he closed his eyes and tried his best not to pass out. He yawned softly as he stretched quietly, sighing shakily. "Mmmmrrgghhh...'s too bad anyway...I don't want to worry him..." He mumbled, sighing quietly as he shifted softly. He squirmed a bit before realizing he was close to falling off, just deciding that he would fall asleep anyway. And immediately his grip failed, clearly getting close to falling off anyway.
Knight didn't offer out another comment, warily eyeing the tired Cookie as he kept walking, stopping only when he grew too worried about Almond's sitting position when he was close to falling off. Asking for his horse to kneel down, the noble guided Almond around to flop horizontally over the horse's back, continuing on their way afterwards. As intriguing as the choice was, it was the most logical as it prevented Almond from simply falling off; the only he could slide off the horse now was if he tried to do so, which Knight severely doubted he would try. "Your coffee is way too strong, it could easily rival Espresso's; have you been drinking this all morning?" Knight inquired, glancing back to the other for a moment, still holding onto his cup of coffee, admittedly sipping at it as he wouldn't allow for it to go to waste and by no means was he going to allow Almond to have it back. Plus, caffeine never bothered him or really worked for that matter, so what was the harm to take a few sips from the drink that was painfully clearly not rather his but his companions?
Almond didn't really reply, he was asleep at this point. His eyes stayed closed at this point, stirring only slightly when he was moved from the horse to his house. He was surprisingly light even though he did his best to stay in shape, shifting very slightly in Knight's arms before sighing in his sleep as he relaxed into him. Honestly, this was kind of comfortable even if it was armor, maybe it was just because he didn't sleep that much. Speaking of Pancake, however, he was kinda running around the house as he looked up at Knight. "...? Hi Knight Cookie!" He greeted, only noticing his father after a moment. "What's wrong with papa?"
"Ah, hello Pancake Cookie, it's nice to see you again!" Knight quickly returned the greeting, letting out a small laugh at the question he was asked. "Nothing is wrong with him, no need to worry. The hunky beanstalk here simply grew tired while we were patrolling, so he needs to sleep." He answered with a gentle smile, quietly walking through the house even with all the usually clanky armour he had on, pausing in front of Almond's room door when he realized his hands were a little more than full at the moment. "Could you be a dear and open the door for me, Pan?" Knight politely asked, stepping aside to allow the young Cookie to do so.
The little Cookie hopped up and caught the doorknob, turning it and kinda hanging off of the knob as it swung open. "Uhh...so why did he pass out? I thought he sleeps?" He seemed confused, climbing up onto Almond's bed once the older Cookie was placed down onto it as he looked up at Knight Cookie. "'n how did you find him? Were you there with him?" He tilted his head curiously, hugging his cloak close as he watched Knight almost warily.
"Your father must've had a long night yesterday I suppose," Knight answered the first of the questions he was bombarded with, deciding against assuming his worst fears of Almond having been running around for days on end without sleep. Slipping off his helmet and holding it gently, he offered Pancake another gentle smile. "I was with him, yes. I'm usually his patrol partner whenever I'm here at the kingdom; Blackberry does her best to pair Cookies up based on dynamics and how well their relationship is with one another. I can tell you more about it in your living room if you'd like, I don't think your father would appreciate it if he woke up to us talking too loud by accident."
Pancake quietly slipped off of the bed before reaching up for Knight's arm, climbing back onto the bed for a moment only to jump off and latch onto the other as he giggled wildly. It was clear enough he loved being carried around like he was a squirrel on a branch, swinging on his arm a bit with soft squeaks and giggles. "Iiiii gotchaaaa~!" He squealed out, giggling and smiling at him as he was carried out of the room. His stomach grumbled a bit but he ignored it, scrambling up onto Knight's shoulders and smiling.
Knight happily took that as an invitation to continue talking, walking off to where he miraculously remembered where the living room exactly was, it having been quite some time since the last time he had visited. He raised a brow hearing Pancake's stomach grumble, looking to the squirrel-like Cookie for a moment as he thought. "You're a hungry little thing, aren't you?..." The noble asked, still caught in thought before putting on his usual bright smile. "Say, your father wouldn't mind if I 'stole' you for a bit while he's asleep, would he? Let's go get some food; you can get whatever you'd like, we can even go shopping after; how's that sound?" He offered, having figured that Almond didn't exactly have a decent supply of food at home considering how poorly he seemed to take care of himself. If he [i did] by an extremely lucky chance, Knight would be extraordinarily shocked, otherwise already making a mental note to stock his house with food whether or not Almond would approve.
Pancake's eyes visibly lit up, gasping excitedly as he held onto him tightly. "Yeyeye!! Yes please! Clovie got me breakfast but I haven't had lunch yet." He chirped out, seeming a bit excited about being around the older Cookie now. "What're we gonna get?! Are we gonna go to Sparkly's place? He's really really fun, he always gives me treats!" He chirped out, squealing and trying his best not to fall off of Knight's shoulder as he grinned.
Knight lightheartedly laughed, moving towards the front door with short and quick steps as he nodded a few times. "We may as well, it'd be nice to chat with him again. Would you like to ride on Whey, my horse, on the way over too? I can summon him for you if you'd like to," He continued to offer, finding a parental-like joy upon seeing Pancake's happy smile, which seemed to be infectious as it made him smile evermore. He had already warmed up his magic from earlier, so treating the young Cookie to a horse ride seemed like the most fun option he could think of. Happy, entertained children seemed to make a happy Knight, given they were usually the Cookies he most often fought to protect.
"You have a horse?! So cool!" Pancake squealed out as he hopped off of Knight's shoulder, gliding to the ground a bit before hugging onto his leg with a happy giggle. "You're so cool!!" He squeaked out, his little cloak fluttering a bit before he hopped up onto his shoulder again. His eyes glimmered in excitement as he stared at the horse, watching it for a moment before reaching out to rub at his snout curiously. "Hi!" He chirped out excitedly, giggling happily.
Whey pushed out a gentle burst of air from his nose as if reciprocating the greeting, Knight affectionately patting at the side of his head where it wasn't covered in plated armour as one would before lifting Pancake up and placing him onto Whey's back, though he didn't direct for the horse to begin walking quite yet. "Do you think that you can stay on without sliding around? Or would you like to sit on his saddle so you don't fall off?" Knight worriedly asked as children were sometimes twice as likely to fall off an unsaddled horse than their adult counterparts; a tired Almond apparently being the exception to that.
Pancake blepped in curiosity before getting into one of the little packs attached to Whey's saddle, apparently getting comfortable before peeking out of the pack. "Here I am!" He chirped softly, as if they were playing peekaboo or something. He looked kind of cute peeking out of the little pack, blepping and giggling excitedly. "See? I fit!" He squeaked, looking at Knight with a soft smile. "I fits, so I sits!"
Knight awwed out, his eyes going soft from the cute sight as he gently fluffed up Pancake's hair with a grin. "Maybe I should [i actually] steal you from your father, you're so cute," He lightheartedly commented, clearly joking about his claim and simply leaving it at that as he gently lead Whey throughout the lively village to get to the bar he had agreed to take Pancake to, gently pulling the flying squirrel-like Cookie out of the pack once they arrived, the horse vanishing back to where it was before it had been summoned soon after. "Hey Sparkling!" Knight called out as he gently pushed open the doors to the bar, announcing his and Pancake's presence respectively.
"Guten Tag!" Sparkling called from behind the bar, Pancake wiggling excitedly as he looked up at Knight for permission to go over to him. He hopped out of his arms as soon as he could, gliding over to the bar before tackle hugging the bartender Cookie. It made the older Cookie smile, offering some candy to him before setting him on one of the barstools as he smiled at Knight Cookie. "What can I get started for you two?"
"Two glasses of milk to start," Knight answered, matching the smile Sparkling gave him as he sat down at the barstool next to Pancake, gently patting his head. "I said Pancake could get whatever he'd like, so this little dear will be ordering for himself. I am fine with just a glass of milk for now as I had a large breakfast earlier," He explained with a soft laugh and hum, looking back to Pancake and slightly tilting his head and nodding towards Sparkling to allow the young Cookie to get whatever his heart so desired to have at that very moment.
Sparkling easily served up the first glass of milk, taking Pancake's enthusiastic order of fluffy crepes, turkey sausages, biscuits, and orange juice. He patted at the table before Sparkling gave him a preliminary glass of orange juice, humming as he moved into the kitchen to go ahead and make the food for Pancake as the little Cookie looked up at Knight with a happy smile. "Thank you!" He chirped excitedly, patting at the bartable as he swayed happily. "...Is papa gonna be okay?" He asked after a moment, looking up at him with a softly begging look, as if he was begging him to say that Almond was gonna be okay.
Falling silent for a moment, Knight looked down at his helmet he had set in his lap for a few more quiet moments as he thought. "He'll be fine, Pancake, I promise... Have you ever played so much that the first thing you do when you get home is sleep? It's sort of like that for us adults, but with work. Your father worked a little too much, so he needed to get some sleep. He'll feel [i much] better when he wakes up too, so you don't have to worry." He thoughtfully spoke, hoping that the simpler explanation and reassurance he provided would help ease Pancake's worries.
He leaned in and tilted his head quietly, reaching out for a hug. "Hug hug?" He asked out quietly, squirming a bit before managing to get into the other seat right next to Knight Cookie. His eyes glimmered softly as he sighed happily, purring a bit as he closed his eyes. "Mmm...you seem really nice! I like you, but you better not try and date my papa or I'll get Princey to bonk you!" He warned lightheartedly, sticking his tongue out at him as he huffed.
Raising a brow and smiling whilst he rolled his eyes at the warning he was given, Knight shook his head in disbelief. "Ooooh, don't you worry one bit, I'm not too sure if he's into short people like me, let alone if he likes guys. Besides, I can always wear my helmet or have the Prince go back to his room if he tries to bonk my head." He hummed out with a light laugh, grabbing his milk glass to sip at it for a second before setting it back down on the bartable.
"Hmph." He stuck his tongue out at him playfully, snuggling into him before Sparkling came back with the food. He set the plate down in front of the Cookie child, Pancake gasping in excitement. Sparkling was definitely good at cooking, he decided, so he started to eat happily. He seemed quite happy now, Sparkling humming to himself. "So, what happened? I didn't peg you as the type to babysit without reason. Something happen to Almond?"
Knight made a so-so gesture with a hand, the other one loosely tracing around the rim on his glass. Pancake was busy eating and probably wouldn't listen in too keenly to their conversation, he thought after a brief second of hesitance, letting out a sigh soon afterwards. "His bodily need to sleep hit him like a hurricane earlier during our patrol so I had to take him home. I brought Pancake out with me because, one, he's a hungry little thing, and two, to allow Almond to sleep in peace. He must've been overworking himself again..." He murmured with another sigh, this one being much quieter and saddening than the one earlier.
"It's a regular occurence with him. I can't remember how many times he's walked past and gotten Pancake breakfast from my bar only to bring him to the castle. Herb's had to bring him home numerous times. Work addict, honestly." Sparkling sighed as well, reaching out to rub at Pancake's head when he seemed to emerge from his food-motivated squealing. A soft smile spread across his face as he hummed gently, leaning in and nuzzling his cheeks since Pancake loved doing that to people. "Hiii!!" Pancake squeaked a bit, making the bartender smile.
Knight didn't say anything further, instead sinking into a thoughtful silence while dully eyeing his milk glass, taking sip after sip from it until it was emptied, setting it back down on the table once he was finished. It was clear he hated the fact how work-obsessed Almond was to the point of neglecting to take care of himself, but what could he do about that? Ask Princess Cookie for fewer quests to take or simply deny anything he was asked of? Actually, he hadn't tried that out before, so it theoretically could work if he asked kindly enough. It wasn't like he was the [i only] knight who served under her in the entire kingdom; Knight put a mental 'bookmark' on that thought to refer to it later, snapping out of his thought daze with a few blinks of his eyes, looking down to Pancake after a moment. "What would you like to do after you finish, Pan?"
He thought for a moment, blepping softly before reaching out to him. "I want to go and do stuff with you! We can let papa sleep, but I'm bored." He huffed as he blepped again, squirming just a little in order to move into his lap as he began to hide his face into Knight's belly. "I want to spend time with someoneeeeee." He complained as he huffed gently, looking up at him while reaching up to pat at his face quietly. "And you're cool!" He chirped out quietly, snuggling with him.
Knight smiled fondly, gently wrapping an arm around Pancake to somewhat hug him, the other hand moving to slide Sparkling the payment for the meal and singular glass of milk, ruffling up the child's hair afterwards. "Okay, uh, let me think what would be fun... We could swing by Mont Blanc's shop? She's pretty cool, and really talented too, maybe she'd make you a new outfit! And then we can go through the stores and grab the ingredients of your favourite meals and some snacks? I have a feeling you don't have a lot of options back at your home," He hummed out, trying his best to think of what would be entertaining for a young Cookie such as Pancake, but only managing to come up with somewhat stereotypical ideas as he wasn't exactly used to watching over kids.
"Ok!" He chirped excitedly, humming happily as he reached out to put his arms around him happily. "You're awesome!" He mumbled out, snuggling with him happily as he blepped softly. "You're really sweet, I'm happy to be here with you!" He chirped lightly, sighing happily as he closed his eyes and snuggled up with him. "You're really nice..." He mumbled out as he closed his eyes quietly, mumbling to himself in his slight sleepy feelings now. "Mmmm..."
Knight quietly looked down to him, letting his smile soften out into a simpler one as he contently sighed. "On second thought, let's get you back home so you can rest. You seem tired," He noted, picking his helmet off the floor to put it back on before doing his best to gently scoop Pancake up and hold him comfortably despite the metal plates of armour he wore. Yeah, maybe he should take it off later if this was going to be a frequent occurrence that day, but he'd do that later he supposed, making his way through the front doors of the bar and heading back to Almond's home to but Pancake to bed.
He whined a bit, definitely not wanting to go to sleep as he squirmed softly. "Noooo...I wanna go shopping with you!" He whined out softly, making a pouty face at the knightly Cookie as he wrapped his arms around him tightly and refused to let go. Yes, he was a bit exhausted from bouncing around so much, but he still wanted to go shopping with him. He whined a bit as he looked up at him with puppy-dog eyes. "Pleaseeeee?"
Knight fell silent from contemplation, though it didn't take too long for him to cave into the request as he turned on his heels and started towards the direction of the shops, sighing out as he did so. He had issues saying no to things he was asked of, what more could he say? "Fine, but if you get any further tired than you are currently, I will be promptly escorting you home so you can sleep..." The armoured Cookie defeatedly compromised in a mumble, hoping that was enough to satisfy the other, setting him down gently when they had arrived at the shops.
