Sometimes life is never what you expect it to be. You expect to be accepted by the people around you, you expect them not to judge you and for them to include you in everything they are doing. That's not how life was for Eveleen at all. Her father was a white man, and her mother was black. People looked down on them for their relationship, and when Eveleen was born they told them that she would get teased, and that she wouldn't live long enough to see her eighteenth birthday. The threats made the small family move out of the state of Texas, and they ended up moving to one of the busiest cities of the world New York City. Since then Eveleen grew up in the wonderful place, and she wasn't treated differently. Just what her parents wanted for their young daughter.
As the years passed, Eveleen grew into the beautiful woman she was now. She didn't have many friends and she was okay with that. She didn't want a lot of people to be around her in the first place. She had heard the whispers in the halls of school, and the way people looked at her because she didn't have the same skin color as them. That's when Your Name Here entered her life. He was a whirlwind of personality, and he had his eye on Eveleen since their senior year of High School. He would try to talk to her, but she would always have her guard up, and wouldn't let him into her small bubble. She was scared of what people would say after all.
Your Name Here on the other hand didn't care what other's would say. He would do everything he could to get her attention. He felt like they were supposed to prove the world wrong. So he made a vow to himself that he would get her to go out with him when they weren't in High School anymore. Now that time has come and gone, Eveleen had a steady job as a waitress, and Your Name Here was working in one of the many bars in town. One day he walked into the small business she worked at, and was kind of surprised to see it was filled with black people and no white people to be seen. Eveleen felt more comfortable that way. Your Name Here had every one watching his every move, but he didn't care.
Your Name Here had one thing on his mind, and that was to break the stereotype of white men couldn't date black women. He wanted to prove to Eveleen that she didn't need to fear what other's would think of her. What'll happen when Your Name Here kept showing up to her place of business? Will she finally realize that she didn't have to hide behind her people? Would they be able to make a real relationship work the way her parents had? Or will the judgement of the other people of the world break the young couple? You'll never know unless you join, Skin Deep.
The cast of Skin Deep.

[b "Aright, hurry you don't want to be late for classes"] came her mother's voice once more. Eveleen could careless honestly. He heard his alarm going off in the background. He moved around slowly, but it still wasn't enough for him to wake up fully.
Pound. Pound. Pound.
Was all he heard on his door. He groaned louder. It was his dad knocking on his door. "Get up, Marco. You have class soon." Marco shot his eyes open quickly. He grabbed his phone immediately. He looked at the time. He still had plenty of time. He groaned. He knew that trick because that is what his father pulled every time. He threw the blanket off of him, and sat there for a minute. He wanted today to be the day that he stood up for someone. Eveleen was her name. He never realized that they were going to the same college. Until they both showed up in the same class. He has known her since high school. And since high school he has tried to be her friend... well, more than her friend. But he knew not to push her buttons. She had enough going on. People constantly be mean to her. And he wanted to stand up for her, but he felt like that was going to make things worse. He sighed slightly, as he put his jeans and shirt on, heading downstairs.
"Is today the day?" He didn't even realize that his dad talking to him. Marco shook his head, and then looked back at his dad. [b "What? Oh."] Marco had to think more about it. Maybe he could show her kindness. Like more kindness. [b "I don't know, dad. I don't want to make matters worse."] His dad nodded, "You know when the time is right, when you are there."] He smiled at him, and grabbed his keys and headed to class.
Marco is usually there before anyone else. There was a reason for that. Because he wanted to know what was being said to her. Marco has been working with Board about getting Nadia expelled for good. But he still didn't feel like it do anything, because everyone was mean to her. Except him. He could never be mean to her. Marco thought she was pretty great.
Marco sighed as he sat in his normal desk. Then he heard Nadia, call Eveleen what he did. He sighed, as he saw Eveleen walk in as well and sit down at her desk. Marco looked at her for a little bit and smiled at her lightly. That was his own way of telling her that it would be okay.
Marco sighed lightly, and then looked at the board, but his attention span didn't stay there long. He started to doodle in his book. Luckily, this wasn't like high school where you had to answer questions if a teacher chose you for not paying attention. Marco wanted to help her... But he didn't know how. And that frustrated him so much. He really need to think about how he could help her. He didn't want to make matters worse.
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 Eveleen could feel a pair of eyes on her, and she looked up and caught Marco's eyes with her own. When he smiled at her, her heart fluttered inside of her chest. She smiled back at him before she ducked her head and listened to the professor for the time being. Something about Marco made her feel safe. Even if they didn't talk often, and she had a feeling he didn't want to be seen with her, because of her skin color. She didn't blame him though. Why would someone want to be seen with someone like her anyway?]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 As the time ticked slowly by, she took notes and kept thinking about Marco. She had to admit to herself, she had a small crush on him, and has since high school. The way he would look at her, and just smile. That smile seemed to melt her heart, and she wanted to see that smile more and more. When the professor let them go at the end of class, she shut her notebook and packed up her things. That's when she saw a shadow fall across her desk, and she looked up to see Nadia again.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 Her heart dropped to her stomach as she saw her standing there over her. [b "I saw the way you looked at Marco. I just want you to know this nigger, he's not interested in you. No man would be interested in a woman with your skin color. If I were you, I would drop out, get a job where people can't see you, or better yet become a [i slave] like your ancestors were years ago"] she hissed. Nadia's words stung more than she wanted to admit. She bit her tongue a little bit longer.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 She tried to ignore Nadia, and the audience she was getting. She reached for her notebook and tried to put it away, but Nadia grabbed it and started flipping through it. [b "You are such a teacher's pet. Always taking notes. It would [i suck] if something happened to them"] she said as she started ripping the pages out of the notebook, and handed them to Celeste to rip up. That was the last straw. [#E37789 "Give those back! I need those!"] she nearly screamed reaching for the book. Nadia stood out of reach and finished ripping the pages out.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 [b "What you need, is to fucking leave. No one likes you, and I sure as hell don't want to call daddy and have him arrest you for hitting me"] she said as she tossed the notebook onto the floor at Eve's feet. Celeste threw the pages at Eve's feet as well. Nadia turned and looked towards Marco and winked at him. Eveleen didn't care. She felt tears stinging her eyes, as she got onto her knees to clean up the torn pages. [b "Leave soon nigger"] Nadia hissed, as she turned and kicked Eve's hand.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 Eveleen let out a small hiss as pain shot up her hand, and into her arm as she watched Nadia walking off. She tried to keep the tears at bay, but knew it wasn't going to work. Nadia was making her life hell, and she knew it would be better if she wasn't around. She gathered up her things, and ran out of the room and to the safety of her car. She threw her bag into the backseat, and sat there a moment to calm herself. After five minutes she started the car.]]
[google-font http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Noto+Sans][noto+sans [size12 She was ditching the rest of the day. She needed to get to Savannah's and now. She couldn't handle the pain anymore. She backed out of the parking spot, and went to the [i Wrong side of the tracks] of town. Savannah's was her safe haven, and she wished she could just live there. She pulled around to the back, and parked in her normal parking spot. She shut the car off, climbed out and made her way inside. She felt at home here. Everyone had darker skin color, and white folks didn't come in often, and that's what made it her safe haven.]]
Marco loved the fact that Eveleen smiled at him back. That was a good start to everything. Marco knew how everyone treated her. But he was the only person that wanted to be around her. Or it felt like the only person. Marco realized that he was still staring at her until the class started.
Marco turned his attention to the board, and started to jot down the notes that everyone needed. Except that not everyone was taking notes like they are supposed too. Especially Nadia. Which wasn't new because Nadia always acted like she was too good for school. Marco never understood why she was in school. Marco rolled his eyes, and continued to focus on the class. Once class was off, he had to head to work. It was just his normal day.
Marco was packing his stuff up, when he saw Nadia hovering over Eveleen desk. [i Oh no...] He thought to himself. This was going to end bad. Nadia absolutely hated Eveleen because of the color of her skin. Most people in the school were like that. Marco was listening to everything was being said. Marco shook his head in anger, still wondering what to do. He knew that if he would go over that he would make matters worse, but if he doesn't go over there then it can just end badly as well.
Marco watched as Nadia took her notebook and ripped up her notes. Marco gasped as he heard Eveleen try to defend herself, but Nadia was still bullying her. Marco watched as Eveleen ran out after Nadia kicked Eveleen's hand. Marco hurried up and put the rest of the things in his bag. By the time he reached the hall, Eveleen was already gone. Marco furrowed his eyebrows together and then his eyes started to scan the area for Nadia. He needed to say something, because he couldn't let this continue.
Once Marco found he walked up to her. Of course, Nadia had a smile on her face. [b "Enough is enough, Nadia. What you are doing is rude as hell. And no, I'm not going to hit you but I know plenty of women that would love to get their hands on you."] Marco was screaming or hollering at her. He didn't even understand why he was doing this because she wasn't going to listen.
Marco was getting ready to walk off, but he had to add one more thing. [b "Also. Nadia. Your dad may be a police officer, and he may help you when you are being a bitch. But my father is the captain. And my father is the same way I am when it comes to people like you. Keep messing with Eveleen, and I will make sure your father never has any type of job in this town, including the one he has now."]
Marco walked off, and rushed out to his car. Fortunately, Marco knew exactly where Eveleen is going. Because he has been there a couple of times. But not very much, because he didn't want to seem pushy. He got into his car, and took off to the restaurant where Eveleen was at.
Marco walked in, and he heard the bell ring above his head, and he watched as everyone looked at him. Marco was kind of used to everyone staring at him. He walked up to the counter, and looked at the person that was staring at him. [b "Can I talk to Eveleen please?"]
