Vaan, Tidus, Bartz, Firion and a few other Final Fantasy characters were called upon during the eve of the summer solstice for one important reason. A particularly nasty aquatic fiend was threatening to kill everyone at the beach and was demanding sacrifices. Everyone who has fought the beasts prior ended up dead or missing. Frantic to stop the chain of sacrifice, these people called upon some of the heroes of Final Fantasy to dispatch this threat. They were told that the fiend could be lured out with a sacrifice which led the group to question just who would be the sacrifice. It was ultimately decided that in the end, Tidus would pose as the sacrifice. In response to this, Tidus was quickly dressed in sacrificial robes and walked out to the ocean. As expected, the fiend had appeared to collect their sacrifice. The Final Fantasy heroes struck just when the fiend was about to carry off their sacrifice. Unfortunately, the monster proved to be too powerful even for them and they were quickly defeated. The fiend took all of them and fled into it’s underwater lair which was in reality, a large castle. The Final Fantasy boys that had been taken were quickly thrown into underwater cages. A spell had been cast on them prior to make sure that they could breathe underwater while a ritual to turn the group into merfolk was being prepared. Tidus was the first one to be brought to the ritual site. He was shackled down onto the table where the sacrifice would be restrained to. There was a ceremonial dagger made from a special coral that when combined with a certain enchantment, would turn whoever was stabbed in the heart with it into a merperson. As if he knew what was about to happen to him, Tidus tried to get away. However, his attempts were unsuccessful as the dagger was plunged into his chest. It had pierced his heart which caused him to fall unconscious. The enchantment of the dagger quickly started to work it’s magic as Tidus’s legs had transformed into a cerulean tail. He was quickly unchained from the table and was then brought into another room. He had been inflicted with the aquatic fiend’s curse and now couldn’t leave the castle less he suffer the rage of said fiend. Everyone else who had survived this ritual also suffered the same fate hence why it was called a curse.
It was noon as the sun was high up in the sky. Tidus, Firion, Bartz, Vaan, Noel, Locke, Ramza and Hope were called to a town on the beach by the locals that lived there. They were told about why they had been called there. It turns out that there was an aquatic fiend that was demanding sacrifices and that the villagers were desperate to stop these sacrifices. They also learned that the next sacrifice would be collected in an hour. In response to this, Tidus decided to step up and volunteer to become the sacrifice. “I’ll do this so that my friends don’t have to.” He’d say. Delighted by this, the villagers took him away to prepare him for the important role that he was about to play. He was dressed in the finest sacrificial robes and was soon escorted out to the ocean by his friends. Surely enough, something appeared and they fought against it. However, the party was defeated and were enchanted with a spell that would help them breathe underwater. Then, they were dragged into a large underwater castle and thrown in separate cages.
Tidus was the first out of the group to regain consciousness. He was still dressed in sacrificial robes however he was already able to breathe underwater so the enchantment didn’t help him.
Vaan was the second boy in the group to wake up. He was still rather drowsy however all of the other boys soon woke up after him.
Kiki gasped as she bolted upright, finally awake after having gone into a coma when she'd been cursed. Looking down she found a set of tentacles that had replaced her nine tails and legs. Terrified and wanting to go home, she cried and bolted- though barely managing to control her new limbs and make it to the nearest window before figuring out how to swim using the tentacles- albeit in a bit of a sloppy manor but it was still affective in propelling her forward as she attempted to leave the castle. Kiki squeezed through the tiny window and tried going into the darkness of the ocean, unaware of the dangers lurking just within that void of murky darkness
Tidus didn’t know that a ritual was being prepared that would end up turning him into a merman. He sighed softly and stayed still as he thought about what to do next. He looked over and then noticed that a large majority of the Final Fantasy boys were still unconscious. “Just our luck… things went extremely sour.” He said softly.
Kiki screamed as something grabbed her, large thorns digging into her sides and drawing blood as it dragged her down and towards the castle. "I WANNA GO HOME!!" She cried "MAMA!!" She squirmed around and punched whatever was holding her weakly, trying to hurt it to make it let her go to no avail as tears streamed down her face and she just screamed.
Kiki continued to scream until her throat hurt too much and they faded to whimpers and sniffles by the time she was taken into the same room the boys were caged in. She tried to look for whatever was holding her but couldn't see anything as she kept trying to break free of its hold only to cry out in pain as their grip tightened and blood floated around her from the deep wounds around her waist caused by its invisible thorns.
Tidus noticed Kiki. “Hey there!” He said softly. He was still waiting around for his inevitable fate to befall him. He knew that he couldn’t do anything however he didn’t know about what could be coming for him.
“She’s bleeding. I have to help her.” Firion said before he tried to get out of the cage that he was trapped in. His attempt was unsuccessful to say the least.
“Were you one of the previous sacrifices who the fiend took?” Vaan asked Kiki. He wanted to know where she stood in this.
Kiki's head snapped up as she finally noticed there were other people in the room. Tears filled her eyes as she fell silent and stopped struggling against the invisible thing around her, just wanting to go home. Looking down all she could do was give a tiny nod as answer to Vaans question before breaking down in tears.
“My friends and I tried to get rid of that fiend however we ended up getting captured. I don’t know what’s going to happen to us but I’m not looking forward to it.” Vaan said. He looked at both Tidus and Firion after he spoke.
“The villagers wanted for us to stop the chain of sacrifice and we tried to do that by having Tidus pose as the sacrifice however that didn’t go as planned. He’s still wearing those robes as well.” Firion said softly.
“I’m sorry that we couldn’t stop more people from ending up like you.” Tidus said softly. He seemed to have a hint of sadness in his eyes as he spoke.
Kiki continued to cry, merely wishing she could see her family again as she started to curl up and the thing holding her slowly unraveled from around her. She cried out again in pain as its thorns were pulled out and the wounds bled more, making it seem as though she were hiding within a cloud of blood in the water. Moving was to painful and she now tried to stay as still as possible
“Just what did they do to you to make you into what you are now. That’s something that we need to know.” Tidus said. He was concerned about Kiki however he needed to know how she ended up the way that she did first.
She said nothing, moving her tentacles so she hid more in the blood cloud, floating within it quietly as she continued to cry and mumble "I want my mama and papa. I want my mama and papa. I want my mama and papa..." Her voice broke while she hugged herself, putting pressure on two of the gashes around her waist.
“Oh crap… Hang on! I’ll try to get some help.” Tidus said before he started to yell out for some help. He wondered if anyone would even hear his cries for help.
Firion only ended up sighing. “It’s probably getting late to be honest. We arrived at the beach at noon and then it took quite a few hours to get Tidus ready for his big role and then we woke up here which means that hours must have passed.” He said softly.
She didn't like that she was surrounded by blood and wanted to move out of it, Kiki whimpered a bit as she weakly used her tentacles to push herself forward a bit and only ended up floating through the water unknowingly a little closer to the boy's cages. She couldn't stop herself floating along as it hurt to much to move anymore while blood trailed behind her and spread out through the water until it seemed to dissipate. She could barely keep her eyes open now and fell silent despite the wave of pain from bumping into one of the cages as she finally passed out.
The rate of blood coming from her wounds began to slow down as she floated to the ground and remained unconscious while her breathing slowed though she'd shivered a bit, feeling as though she were being watched despite her unconscious state
Kiki was still unconscious but now laying on a cot in what appeared to be a clinic. She was hooked up to special machines made for the underwater environment which gave her blood and other fluids and kept track of her vitals.
A dark figure had come in the middle of the night and moved Tidus to another room in another cage away from his friends and overlooking a plaza-like area which seemed prepared for a public ceremony of sorts. An elevated table with chains meant only for someone's hands stood in the center.
Tidus started to wake up. He yawned softly and then tried to stand up. He was still wearing the same sacrificial robes as last night however he started to panic when he realized that his friends weren’t there anymore. “WHERE ARE MY FRIENDS!” He yelled out.
Firion had woken up within his cage only to notice that Tidus was missing. Where is he?” He said. He had started to panic at the thought about what could have happened to him.
A shadowy figure came into view, the light showing it was a woman who had entered the room and looked at Tidus silently assessing him and holding a ceremonial dagger casually fiddling with it. "So you're the one chosen as their sacrifice?" oddly spiked tentacles swirled under the woman as she looked at Tidus with a feral smirk. "The last one they sent me was a mere child"
“What about my friends? What are you going to do to them. They came with me to stop this chain of sacrifice so if you consider me to be a sacrifice then they should be considered sacrifices as well. I’m not going to accept being separated from them.” Tidus said with the slightest hint of a growl in his voice. He tried to reach for the Brotherhood but he found out that it wasn’t there any longer. He then proceeded to create a small ice shard in his hand in response to seeing the woman.
She looked at him, amused and chuckled. "One week." She said simply, turning the blade in her hands and unconcerned with the ice shard he'd created. "One sacrifice per week." she sheathed the dagger and crossed her arms casually. "I typically determine the amount of time between sacrifices depending on the amount of magical energy each has." She explained. "That child had given those villagers a month of peace..." she added, though more questioningly as she seemed to be talking to herself with that statement. "You can reunite with those friends of yours one at a time... one week at a time..." With this, she turned and exited the room, turning invisible and seeming to disappear by the time she reached the doorway
“But I want to reunite with them now! I don’t like being separated from them!” Tidus said. He was starting to pout. He knew that he and his friends had a lot more magic energy than people thought they did. He had started to cry rather loudly at the thought of being separated from them for several weeks. He tried to escape from the cage on his own.
She stopped at the doorway at the sound of crying and turned around, looking at him as she showed herself again. "Throwing a tantrum? Really?" She crossed her arms again, this time to help herself remain calm after having dealt with Kiki's tantrum nearly two months ago when she'd been 'sacrificed'. "Do I need to threaten- no- promise to torture your friends and maybe even kill them if you continue this display of immaturity?" she asked calmly.
“Don’t kill them! I just don’t want to be separated from them for weeks! I need to be with them since they’re the only people who understand me.” Tidus said. He was still crying softly and it was clear that he didn’t want to be separated from his friends. He cared a lot about them.
She kept her arms crossed while looking down at him. "You'll be turned today... in one week time you will have one friend join you... in another week you will get another friend.." She said simply. "I don't give a damn what you want, if you don't like it then they will pay the price for your actions, do you understand?" She said coldly.
“I-I understand. I’d probably spend all of my time with them, though. Also, you’d better make sure that they are fed.” Tidus said softly as he wiped the tears from his eyes. He just wanted to be with his friends.
“I just want to see Firion again, though.” Tidus said softly. He did want to sad his friend again no matter what however he was also scared of him dying if he ever attempted to escape. He was currently in a bit of a dilemma.
She already left the area and would not return for several hours while Kiki remained unconscious still from the severity of the wounds she'd inflicted on her. Aya went to the clinic to check on her recovery.
She walked out of the clinic holding Kiki's hand calmly. "I told you there is no leaving the castle" She scolded softly. Kiki looked down quietly going along with Aya and covered in bandages around her waist.
“Just where is he…” Firion said softly. He was looking for Tidus since he was trying to bring him back to where the others were. He couldn’t just sit around and do nothing while who knows what happened to Tidus.
“When will I be reunited with him.” Tidus said softly in his sleep.
Aya spotted Firion just down the hallway and growled softly, unconsciously gripping Kiki's hand more tightly until the child cried out, her hand now partially broken from the force used as Aya's attention snapped back to her and she loosened her grip.
Kiki looked down silently cradling her hand, crying again softly as aya grabbed her wrist now and dragged her along, returning to the room where the rest of the boys were held.
She sighed and barely moved, surrounding the boys in a magic that would keep them asleep while she brought them out of their cages and moved them into seperate cages spread out in the same room as Tidus.
Kiki stayed in the room with them as she did this. She curled up in a corner and looked down as soon Aya was out and searching the castle for the escapee
Kiki sat in a corner silently staring at her tentacles which she still wasnt quite used to as she hugged herself and tried to ignore the boys reunion. But she wished she had her parents or at least her older brother there with her. [i 'but they didn't get sacrificed like me... and those people waited for big brother to be away somewhere and for mama to be asleep before taking me away...'] she thought bitterly and curled up more tightly as she started to cry. [i 'and papa couldn't protect us like he'd always promised...'] the villagers had killed him to sacrifice the child they'd seen as an abomination because she was a kitsune.
“She might find you here, Fi. Are you sure that you don’t want to run away while you still have the chance?” Tidus asked Firion. He started to purr rather loudly from the headpats that he was given.
“I’m not going to leave you here and if you’re forced to stay then I’ll stay as well. If you’re going to get sacrificed then I’ll get sacrificed as well.” Firion said softly. He was relieved to have finally found Tidus and closed his eyes.
"She wont care" Kiki mumbled. "Just don't leave the castle..." She whispered, almost like she was reminding herself of that as she winced while pressing herself against a corner as best she could with the tentacles, the wounds reopening and bleeding through the bandages covering her waist and mid-section
Kiki barely glanced up as Aya entered the room again, setting the other boys which she'd kept unconscious in seperate cages then was standing in the center of the room and looking at Firion silently with her arms crossed though not angry. She was emotionless.
Firion was busy patting Tidus on the head. “I’m so glad that I found him again.” He said softly. He smiled softly since he liked being around the often bubbly blonde haired boy. It was one of the things that brightened his day and made him smile. Not a whole lot of things in the world made him smile as much as seeing Tidus and any of his friends in a good mood.
Tidus continued to purr softly. He liked being patted on the head and was just glad that he could be near Firion again.
She just stared at them, thinking for a few moments. The cages suddenly changed, liquifying and seemingly turning into bubbles that dissolved into the water around the group of boys.
Kiki remained silent, staring at the water as it moved with Aya's barely shifting, spiked tentacles. She looked down quietly at her own tentacles which seemed to have the same markings her tails did before her transformation.
