With frantic huffs Orko ran, desperate to escape the flames and destruction behind him. He considered dropping his backpack so he can have one less burden, and almost actually did before he remembered some of the supplies he had in there could also save his life. He saw an alleyway and without a second thought, he rushed in without checking whether or not there are dangers or other people in there already, only hoping that he could hide there for the time being.
Orko allowed himself to sigh in relief for a moment, thinking that right now he was finally out of danger. Suddenly he heard a thud nearby and made his way over to the other end of the alleyway where the noise came from, and saw someone standing there who Orko presumed had bumped into something. [#56BBA4 “Uh… are you okay?”]
Orko light-heartedly scowled as he observed the other person. [#56BBA4 “You have a bruise… do you want an ice pack-”] Just as he finished speaking, Orko heard several aggressive shouts coming from the side; it sounded like a gang was getting closer. [#56BBA4 “Nevermind, maybe we should run right now–!”]
Orko followed closely afterwards, regretting that he didn’t have weapons as good as the other person’s as he only retrieved a can of pepper spray from his pocket. [#56BBA4 “Hey, uh, do you know any safe place to stay? My home is already wrecked…”] He asked as he ran.
[#56BBA4 “Alright, let’s make sure they don’t follow us first, then you lead the way,”] Orko yelled, before running into another winding alley that intersects with many other paths. [#56BBA4 “If we go through here hopefully they will get confused and stop chasing us… or I think it was you they were following from the start? Anyway I digress, let’s go.”]
[#56BBA4 “Oh, are you alright? Um… if it’s an inhaler or something you need, sorry I don’t have anything like that…”] Orko muttered with some genuine concern. [#56BBA4 “Also I think we can just walk now, I’m sure we’ve managed to lose the gang...”]
Orko also rested and caught his breath. After he felt a bit better, he turned to Karlos. [#56BBA4 “So now, yeah, take your time and um… lead the way to the warehouse, yeah?”] He silently hoped this time there really would be no hostile folk there.
Orko nodded. After both people were inside the warehouse, Orko blocked the doorway with a heavy box. [#56BBA4 “We should rest here for the night… and that is to make sure no other gangs or hostile people find us when we’re resting.”]
[#56BBA4 “Huh… well, it’s fine, I mean, I didn’t have much supplies back there but now, thanks to you–”] Orko trailed off, gesturing to the supplies he sorted, then shifted his attention to trying to find a larger bag to pack all the supplies in.
Having found a can opener to open his own canned food of choice, Orko held the tool out for Karlos to take. [#56BBA4 “We shouldn’t stay in one place for too long, or the air might stagnate which is especially dangerous now that there’s so many ash and toxins everywhere… So what I’m saying is, we should eat and go soon.”]
Orko quickly finished his own food and began to pack a lot of supplies into a duffel bag. After he was done, he moved the away box that blocked the door and began pacing. [#56BBA4 “Tell me when you’re ready…”]
[#56BBA4 “Great, then let’s go!”] Orko only spared Karlos a glance and pulled open the door, stepping outside. The scent of smoke hit him and he realized there were many flames encroaching nearby. [#56BBA4 “Good thing we didn’t stay inside for too long or who knows if we’d have died of the fume emissions…” ] He mumbled, a bit to Karlos but moreso to himself.
After finding his way out of the fire, Orko looked back at the warehouse that was being slowly eaten away by the blaze. He muttered, [#56BBA4 “I wonder… did this fire get spread here naturally or was it set intentionally by one of those maniacs…?”]
Without another word Orko stood up and started walking. He didn't exactly know where to go next, so he went in the direction his intuition led him. He wasn't sure that it was the best path, however with not much to lose, it wouldn't hurt to try.
