Smoke. Laughter. Music. There was something about the atmosphere of this place that could make anyone forget whatever troubles their day had burdened them with. This jazz club was one of the most prolific in Chicago and anyone who was anybody at all spent their Saturday nights drinking up the seduction that filled the air. Business men and ex-soldiers were the usual suspects to spend their evenings listening to the wonderful music and enjoying the expensive cigars that were often sold behind the bar.

Tonight was no different. In fact, the seats were more full than usual because tonight Ruby Grant was debuting on their stage and fresh meat was exactly what the customers thrived on. She could hear the excitement building as the band entertained them while they waited for the main act and as she sat in her dressing room she allowed the adrenaline to flow through her. She was a healthy mix of nervous and excited and she was sure that the nerves would melt into even more excitement the moment she set foot on the stage.

Ruby had wanted to pursue singing for as long as she could remember but singing in a jazz club was not something that her parents had planned for her. Her mother was a traditional woman; one who was not happy with the wave of ‘The New American Woman’ that was sweeping across the nation. She never quite understood why any woman would want to vote for politicians or work when that had been the role of the male. So, when Ruby had told her parents that she wasn’t planning to settle down and get married and become a housewife and that she had dreams she wanted to pursue, they were farthest from being supportive. In fact, they completely cut her off and no longer associated with her but Ruby had made some progress in the weeks since she had spoken to them.

She took a deep breath while she applied the last bit of mascara to her eye lashes and she rose from the chair pulled up to her dressing table and took a minute to take in her new appearance. Her dress fell to her upper thigh and sparkled in the slightest bit of light. She didn’t look like the Ruby Grant she once was. Her lips turned up into a smile before turning around and bumping into the stylist who had dressed her.

[b “Sorry Helen, I did not see you there.”]

[b [+blue “Ruby, you look absolutely stunning. Are you ready for you debut?”]] Ruby nodded whilst Helen ran her hand over to dress, smoothing out any wrinkles. [b [+blue“You need a necklace with this. Hang on.”]] She said as she made her way to the dressing table drawers to find out a piece of jewellery that complimented the dress. [b [+blue “That’s much better.”]] Helen spun her around to look into the mirror and Ruby nodded in agreement.

[b “Seems I need to head out onto the stage.”] She heard her name being mentioned and she knew then that it was her cue to make her debut. With that she made her way towards the stage and swallowed the remaining nerves before making her way onto the darkened stage. She bowed her head and waited for the spotlight to hit her and when it did, she slowly raised her head; her smile ran with seduction and when she started to sing, her voice was as smooth as velvet. Tonight she was merely supposed to arouse the attention of their customers and stay upon the stage and sing along to the music and dance the routines she had been taught. As she did, she imagined what it would be like if her act became popular. She could make her way into the crowd and dance around the chairs and flirt with the men that so obviously came to see the women on stage, rather than to hear them sing but that didn’t bother her too much. Singing was something she enjoyed and if she had to do it showing a little skin, she would happily do so.

The applause echoed in the room after her first song and she couldn’t stop herself from beaming with the excitement. She raised her heeled foot and lent over to whisper into the ear of the musician who agreed to start playing her request and before she knew it her second song was in full swing and she found herself giving a much more confident performance with a few winks and kisses blown to those who couldn’t take their eyes off her.

Daevas sat there in the back booth, one that he was always placed at when he had walked in the bar. He could hear the perfect acoustics from the stage, but yet just close enough that the stage girls could see him easily and give him some persona attention. It was sectioned off from the rest of the crowd with velvet. Guards sat near the corners, protecting the CEO from anyone who knew his wealth status. Pressing his lips together, he picked up the glass that he had ordered on the way in and he removed his hat to set it on the table. Waitresses were already asking if he needed anything and he just waved his hand, keeping his lips in a tight line.

His eyes were paying attention to the stage where the openers for the new act were getting ready to finish. He had heard that there was a new act that would be debuting here. And most that had seen her sing somewhere else or anywhere else were talking that she was worth something great. Daevas was skeptical, but was willing to listen to the woman. He needed better entertainment, and he was in need of things as distraction from work and home. His lonely home.

The man was not married as most bachelors would be around his 26 year old state. Many were already married, living the home life, but this man was working hard for his world to be complete. He would not stop until he was there, and when he had reached his level in the corporation that he had built from the ground up, he was only at the beginning.

Despite his name, Black Industries was making a name for itself in the engineering world, as well as the world of politics during this ridiculous prohibition era. Working crazy hours, he was finding it very difficult to let loose, but tonight he was going to let loose as he had brought out the very expensive scotch that had been passed down in his family over the years. His lips were burning with the decorative taste, but he wasn’t stopping now. Taking sip after sip, his eyes were a little blurry by the time she walked on stage.

Her beautiful blonde curls sparkled more than the headband that she wore around her head. Her smile was sparkly more than the shiny fake diamonds that were embedded in her dress. Her face was smooth as porcelain and her blue eyes caught him easily in the crowd. He leaned up and set his elbows on the table as she began to sing, a voice that was touched with angels. She lifted a brow, watching her carefully, wondering if she was paying anyone very much attention.

The woman was going to be his.

He looked ahead and grabbed a cigar from the given case. Cutting the end, he lit the end and felt the nicotine slip into his lungs and he felt his stress relieve itself within a few moments. The music was sinking into his scotch filled brain and sank into his cigar filled blood. He was taking in deep breaths before he looked at his guards when she was coming to the end of her first song. She was already sending kisses and winks into the crowd. His fingers were tightening around the glass.

[b “Ruby Grant…you will be mine.”]

He whispered and let out some smoke as he had spoken.

After a few more songs, he sent a messenger to the back, giving her a small note to come to the tables after her set. He wanted to meet the new act, to get a grip and see if she was rather worth the trouble of chasing. Not that he actually chased, but if it was something he wanted, nothing was going to stop him from having it. His attitude had never changed from that.

He waited for her to come to him, but in the mean time, a familiar face came around the corner. The brunette was good at coming in at odd times. Her hazel eyes sank into his own. [b “Jayne, what has you coming to this side of the city.”] He asked, looking at her as she came to sit beside him. Easily, he draped his arm over the back of the seat, his fingers barely skimming her shoulders. [+green “I came to see you about our arrangement.”]

He removed his arm and went to place his elbows back on the table. [b “Leave Jayne.”]

There was nothing more thrilling than the excitement of performing on stage and as she made her way through her set she could feel the positivity coming from the audience and that in itself only enhanced her act as she continued to grow in confidence and become the performer that she always knew was a part of her. Before she knew it, her set was over and the applause echoed, even in the back where she placed herself in front of the dressing table once more, looking at her appearance, hardly believing that she had finally performed. She was still a little unsure as to whether her debut would now turn in to a permanent position singing for this club but she hoped by the reaction of the crowd that it might be.

After a minute or two of looking at the reflection she noticed some movement and saw the reflection of one of the waitresses. Ruby smiled and turned to face her as she offered her a glass of water. [b “You have no idea how much I needed this. Thank you.”] She said taking a sip from the glass. As she did she allowed her eyes to close and enjoy the sensation of the liquid running down her throat. She took her headband off and checked her hair to ensure that the curls were still intact before the waitress cleared her throat to gain her attention.

[b [+purple “I did not just come here with a glass of water for you Ruby. You have a message from a man sitting at one of the booths. Seems you have caught his attention as he wants to meet you.”]] She said as she looked down at Ruby who still seemed to be high on the ecstasy of performing. The waitress smiled and shook her head, [b [+purple “I wouldn’t keep a man like that waiting if I were you Ruby. I would, however, changed out of your show gear and into a more suitable gown if you are going to join the man for some drinks.”]] She said before turning and walking out of the dressing room, leaving her alone with her thoughts.

Without so much as a second thought, she went to her wardrobe and pulled out a longer dress, one that didn’t how as much skin and one that was not covered in fake jewels. She removed the necklaces and placed them on the dressing table while she slipped out of her dress. Ruby hadn’t been expecting company, hence why she remained stood in her lingerie for a minute but the second she saw the male figure enter the room she grabbed her dressing gown and covered her femininity.

Jeremy was the owner of the club and she had expected to see him at some point but she had wished that it wasn’t while she had stood there in her underwear.

[b “You could have knocked or announced your presence before coming in here. It’s a dressing room did you not think that I might be changing?”] She asked while Jeremy simply laughed.

[b [+teal “If you are going to be performing here often, you need to get used to the fact that your flesh might be seen more often. No point being embarrassed!”]] He said with a laugh and shook his head. [b [+teal “I’m sorry, I’ll knock next time. You were a hit Ruby. I knew they were going to love you and you came alive up there. I want you to perform again next weekend. We shall see how that goes before giving you a regular slot but they loved you tonight.”]]

[b “That’s amazing Jeremy but one of your customers has requested my presence and apparently he is not someone I should keep waiting. Would you mind if we spoke about this afterwards?”] She asked, hoping that he would give her privacy once more and he nodded quickly.

[b [+teal “Yes, yes…go keep the paying customers happy and if it means they spend more who am I to argue. Before you leave come and find me in the back office and we will arrange payment and your show for next week.”]] With that he left, leaving Ruby with the chance to finally change into the dress she had chosen and without hesitation she changed and started to make her way towards the table that the waitress had pointed out. She looked around and laid eyes on the man who had seemly demanded her attention and she slowly made her way towards the table, noticing that he was not alone.

Daevas was a playboy in his bachelor stage. Even during this time and place, he knew that this was his playground and during this time he had taken many lovers. However, with his sloppiness, over the years the amount of lovers had come to screw him in the ass as many of them had claimed feelings. Now, he was holding himself to a higher standard. During this time, he had to make sure that he was careful with his appearances as well as relationships. His stand and position in the company forced him to hold high values at this was now his line of work and the many people that he worked with were now looking at him with acknowledgement. They knew who he was now and he wasn’t going to let someone ruin that.

The person who would was sitting next to him at this point of time. The moment they spoke of the arrangement, it would be the end of things. She wanted something similar, but she was married. At this day and age, men were allowed to have lovers, but it was looked down upon for women to do so. Jayne was married, legally and was wholeheartedly married. [b “Our arrangement is void, Jayne. You ruined that when you married. Do remember when you signed the dotted line on your marriage license.”] He said.

She laughed. [+red “Oh Daevas. Don’t flatter yourself.”] She said, staring at the side of his face.

He took a second to glance at her and she lifted a brow in his direction. [b “I think I have the right to, actually. Jayne, look at you. Coming crawling back to me after your now wedded husband cannot please you like you thought he could.”] He smiled. She rolled her eyes. [+red “How dare you?”] She snarled.

Daevas did nothing but laugh and moved her coat in her direction. [b “Please, don’t flatter yourself Jayne. Move along to your next lover. You’ll miss me.”] He said seductively. After the comment, She didn’t take long to leave a cold press on his shoulder as he finished his drink. Leaning back with a sigh, his guard touched his shoulder when it was seen that Ruby, as per request, was coming his way.

The man, his seductive smile reaching his eyes, looked at the woman as she had changed from her show gear. She was a sight to see and the swells of her breasts in the dress caused him to stiffen in certain areas. He straightened up and scoot over, letting her have some room as he put out his cigar and set it down as he called for a drink. [b “Hello darling. You are a sight to see.”] He said softly, his eyes traveling over her face.

He scratched his stubble for a second before he looked at her. [b “Can I get you a drink? After such a good set, I believe that water was well needed. Did you enjoy it?”] He asked, his care coming across the two of them. She was beautiful, definitely a light in the dark, and even in the poorly lit audience seats, she was still sitting there, something that many men would envy him for having her so close. With the separated seats, he didn’t have to worry about a man coming in and trying to steal the girl with their charm.

Pressing his lips together, he reached for the drinks as they arrived and he took a sip. [b “How does a star like you, come to be the main act at this beloved bar?”]
d1gn17yRuby Grant   4y ago

Ruby was a fair distance away from his booth so it wasn’t as though she could hear this conversation but it was fairly obvious from the way the woman removed herself that it wasn’t a conversation she enjoyed. Of course, it was not her business to wonder about their relationship or why she might have seemed upset.

Ruby could feel eyes upon her as she gracefully walked through the bar towards the booth where she had been summoned. She smiled to a few people who looked her way and started whispering things that she could not hear but it was clear that whatever such things were, they were positive things. It was clear that some men were hoping that her presence in the main bar was so she could mingle with the audience but as she approached the booth she could almost hear the whispers multiply with chatter about who she might be sitting with.

She hadn’t expected guards to be monitoring this booth but that simply raised questions about the man who had asked her to sit with him after the show. She watched as the guard lightly tapped the male on the shoulder and as he announced her arrival his eyes locked with hers for a split second before they drank in the rest of her appearance. Ruby wasn’t sure what to expect but she watched as he moved over to allow her room to sit down and as she lowered herself into the space he has created for her, his voice filled the silence between them. It was laced with seduction and because she did not yet know him, she couldn’t tell whether that was merely part of who he was or whether he had a genuine interest in the woman.

[b “Hello. Thank you for inviting me to your booth.”] She said politely, remembering that although it was her presence he desired, as far as Jeremy was concerned she worked for him and he was a customer who was to be pleased. [b “A drink would be wonderful. Thank you.”] Ruby smiled towards him and took a minute to take in his appearance properly. His hair was so perfectly styled and his face seemed as though it has been perfectly chiselled and his eyes were clearly his weapon. [b “I did enjoy it, I trust that you did also?”] When she looked into his eyes, she could see how many might be mesmerised by them and it took a lot of energy for her to look away from them while he reached for his drink.

Ruby accepted her drink from him with gratitude and took a sip before answering his question. [b “I’m not sure I would describe myself as a star just yet.”] A laugh was buried in her voice as she spoke, finding it quite humorous that anyone would refer to her as a star. She was simply a girl who did not want the life her parents built for her and this was a way of living life for herself and doing something that she enjoyed. Ruby definitely would not have referred to herself as a star. [b “I’m afraid that if you are looking for an interesting story you will not find one here. I simply love to sing and I came here with the hope that they would give me a chance to prove that I could perform and I was lucky enough that they were looking for a new act to bring in new customers. I auditioned for the owner and he offered me a show and he said that my performance and the reaction from this crowd would determine what happens next.”] She took a sip from her drink, not losing eye contact with him as she did so. [b “That is yet to be seen. Your request for my presence took precedence over that conversation.”] Her smile remained as she placed the glass back down on the table and she closed one had over the over and placed them in her lap. [b “Tell me, who might you be? I do not even know your name.”]
AWritersLove_Daevas   4y ago

He watched her carefully, seeing her worry about the guards that stood by his booth. He gave her a charming smile as she thanked him for inviting her. [b “Darling, don’t mind them. They are least of your worries.”] He said, moving the ash tray to his side of the table, away from the woman. He didn’t want to ruin her pretty lungs if she didn’t already do so. His eyes traced over her as he offered her a drink. [b “You’re welcome.”] He said, handing her the drink the moment it was handed to them.

She had been watching his side profile as he spoke of her great set that she had. She had said that she did enjoy it and that if he had as well. He nodded, finishing up his sip of his drink and he set it down, pulling an arm to drape along the back side of the booth, behind her shoulders. [b “I did. You put on one heck of a show. I can see that many soldiers were very aroused by your set.”] He glanced toward the very front of the stage there the soldiers were stealing glances at the woman. He smiled seductively in her direction.

When he called her a star, he hoped that she would take his compliment, but again, this woman was going to need some confidence boosters. And this was not his first time around with women who were not fully aware of their capabilities. She explained it quite well though…her non reason for not being a star. He was already amused by her point of view.

[b “Darling, if I was at the level of a paparazzi, wanting to talk to you for an interesting story, I would be near the soldiers down there.”] He said, nodding in their directions. [b “I can see your potential. And Jeremy sees that too. If he doesn’t give you the next show, he can deal with me. “] He smiled down at her.

She asked his name and his eyes met hers. Leaning in slowly, he touched her hands for a moment, patting them gently. [b “I apologize for my rudeness sweetheart. I am a regular customer here at the Green Mill.”] He squeezed them lightly, then removed his hands to prevent her from feeling uncomfortable. [b “I am Daevas Black, Owner of Black Industries.”] His eyes traced over her face, unsure if the woman was going to know who he was. While his company was making a name for itself in the mechanics and automotive industries, she might still not know who he is, and that would be fine. She would know who he was in a very short amount of time.

[b “Ruby Grant, correct?”] He asked, leaning his elbow on the table and looking at her. [b “You are very talented, and while you might love to sing, it must have taken a lot of you to get out on the stage.”] He said. [b “I can open doors for you if you wish to go farther.”] He said, the offer was standing there in front of her.

He pressed his lips together as he waited for her to answer him. In the mean time he could see the soldiers hooting and calling for the woman. An encore they wanted. He smiled at her. [b “It looks like your crowd loves you so much that they want you on the stage. I believe you should do one more set, then I want to take you somewhere.”] He said, a smile on his face.

[b “And don’t worry, think of it as a date.”] He said with a charming smile. His blue eyes were tracing her face. He wondered if she was actually going to go up there and sing once more if she was just going to go with him. The moment he was to get her alone, he was going to win her over, one step at a time.
d1gn17yRuby Grant   4y ago

Ruby couldn’t quite decide what she thought about the man that sat beside her just yet. Perhaps he was merely a fan of the company of women and this was something he did regularly to seduce women or perhaps he was simply interested in her and her talent but there was no point in her trying to judge what kind of man he was. Ruby reserved judgements for [I after] she got to know people rather than trying to guess what their motives were. When he motioned towards the soldiers she blushed slightly, not quite sure how to handle that kind of attention. This had been part of the reason why her parents were so against her moving into this industry in the first place. They didn’t see how one simply become a performer without also losing themselves into the forbidden world of sex.

Ruby looked back towards the man beside her and decided to focus her attention on him rather than the crowds who were trying to get their attention. He was certainly a smooth talker and the subtle way he insisted on contact with her skin almost made her heart beat a little quicker than normal and as he squeezed her hand she could have sworn that her breathing had stopped for a second. The affect he had on her didn’t make much sense but it could have been explained by the simple fact that she had never had contact with a man before. When he introduced himself properly he removed his hands and her breathing returned to normal. She could only hope that it was something he didn’t really notice and she looked down at her hands for a moment until his name sank in.

Daevas Black. She had heard of him before and that much she was certain of but in that moment, she couldn’t quite place it. Black Industries didn’t really mean much to her but simply by the very indication of the name, it was an industry and that was not something many women knew much about. Business, however, was something she was learning in her own time and for him to own any kind of industry meant that he had to be a very good business man.

[b “Yes, Ruby Grant is correct. It is not simply a stage name it is the one given to me at birth.”] He went on to talk about her talent and how he might have been able to open doors for her but she had only just met him and she did not know just yet, what that meant exactly but they were merely talking, she had plenty of time to figure that out. [b “That sounds intriguing Mr Black and what door might those be?”] The way she said his name would have been enough to arouse any man but it wasn’t something she had done intentionally. It didn’t appear as though she would get an answer just yet though as Daevas pointed out the crowd’s desire for an encore and his desire to take her somewhere else. She was surprised by the offer and although her head was telling her it was a bad idea, the excitement of an adventure of any sort aside from her normal boring life was something that attracted her to the idea.

She looked him and flashed him nothing more than a smile before sliding out of the booth. [b “I’ll be back shortly.”] She said before making her way to the bar where she had caught sight of Jeremy lending a hand restocking the shelves.

[b [+teal “Ruby, what can I do for you?”]] He asked as he watched her approach and she leant over to explain that she would like to do an encore and then she would be leaving with Daevas Black. Jeremy looked over to him and smiled, clearly knowing the customer well before putting his attention back onto Ruby. [b [+teal “You do as you please – the stage is all yours should you wish it and you can always come by tomorrow to talk more about a residency here.”]] Ruby smiled and leant over to kiss Jeremy’s cheek before making her way onto the stage.

The crowd was almost roaring but the whole time she spoke to announce that she would be singing one last song, her eyes were locked with Daevas’ and she continued to do so as she moved into a song. This one was slightly different to the others in tempo. It was slightly slower and required a different approach to the raunchy attitude she had given to some of the songs in her previous set but the attention of the crowd was still focused on her. As the song began to near it’s end she moved her way through to the crowd and stopped occasionally to sing to members of the crowd before she ended her song in front of Daevas, sitting on the table in front of him and finishing her final note.

As the crowd applauded her she laughed and looked towards Daevas. [b “You wanted to take me somewhere?”] She asked, feeling the rush of adrenaline running through her body as she always did when she performed.
AWritersLove_Daevas   4y ago

Daevas was not a patient man, but his eyes had watched her carefully. She was unsure, he could tell and the way she spoke so sure of herself, she gave off the illustration that there was much more to her. A smile pulled at the corner of his lips as she explained her name. and asked about the doors that he could open for her. She seemed to recognize his name, but he would ask her later on if she decided to go with him.

[i That sounds intriguining Mr. Black and what door might those be?]

Oh, how she spoke his name, he wanted her screaming it under his name and in pleasure, but he held himself straight, sure to not to show emotion to the sound she produced from those full lips. As he explained that the crowd wanted more and the atmosphere was starting to tense as some of the soldiers were growing envious of Mr. Black gaining attention from the main act, he let her go.

As she walked away, her hips swayed just perfectly and he wanted to see what other things those hips had between them, but he would bide his time. He moved his sight away from her as she disappeared to speak to the owner who willingly gave her the show after explanation of who she was going to be leaving with He paid big money, and Jeremy was not stupid to let his customers leave unsatisfied…

When she came back out on stage, her dress clinging to her frame, her face perfectly shaped for the spotlight as she took hold of the microphone, engrossing the crowd with a simple smile. She had smiled at Daevas, her attention on him. This was what he wanted. Her attention on him always. He glanced back at his guard to smiled. [+green “Good job boss.”] He chuckled.

Daevas wasn’t much for praise, but he nodded and smiled charmingly in her direction as her lips poured into the microphone, producing sounds that was pleasing to his ears. He wondered what else that mouth was good for, but as he watched her, producing words, she was coming to an end, her attitude gaining more and more confidence as she stepped down, her eyes on him always except for the few exceptions where she would stop and sing to a male or even female sitting in the audience.

But where she finished was in front of him.

Right where he wanted her to be.

He smiled easily, meeting her eyes as she held the microphone and was breathing hard from the performance. Her words were breathless as she asked him a question. He reached for her calf, holding it lightly in his hand where he traced it up to her thigh and left it right above her knee. [b “Grab your coat, and we will go.”] He ordered.

The crowd was entranced with the female and why she ended up in front of Mr. Black, some would think that he paid her off, or she simply was attracted to the male bachelor. They were cheering and soon they were settling back on to their own terms and talking back to their normal conversations. He watched her carefully as he waited for her to do so. Though he knew his hand was still on her thigh, he removed it and let her go and there he gathered his own things and dawned his jacket with the help of his guards.

The bartender in the mean time, waved him off telling him that Jeremy had let his drinks be on him that night and Daevas just smiled. He left the waitress a hefty tip and fixed his tie and slipped on his hat. Taking a few more sips of his drink, he finished it off and set it down, giving the woman just a minute more before he would leave.
d1gn17yRuby Grant   4y ago

Her breathing was heavier than normal, partly from the performance and partly due to the fact the Daevas’ hand had grabbed her leg and had started to work its way up her leg towards her thigh. Ruby’s eyes locked his as he told her to grab her coat. The smile was fixed upon her lips and it was as though time had stopped around them for a moment and it wasn’t until he removed his hand from her leg that she realised that she was still sitting on the table.

She shook her head as if to snap herself out of whatever trance she had been transfixed in and she decided to jump off the table. [b “I will just be a minute.”] With that, she moved to make her way into the back so that she could grab her coat. That would also give her time to gather her thoughts and calm whatever it was that was awakening within her. Ruby took a deep breath and looked at her reflection in the mirror.

[b “It’s only a date Ruby. Gather yourself. This is part of the life you wanted is it not?”] She asked her reflection, not really expecting and answer before she laughed at herself and grabbed the coat from the rack where it had been sitting for most of the night and she places it around her shoulders before making her way back out into the crowd. She was grateful that their excitement towards her had come to an end for now because it meant that she was able to leave without too much attention on her but she hoped that when she returned the following week, there would be just as much adding to the atmosphere of the club.

With an enthusiastic smile Ruby arrived back at the booth where she had been summoned earlier that night and noticed that Daevas was already ready to leave. [b “Shall we?”] She asked as she approached him. Ruby looked towards the bar where the waitress winked towards her, clearly knowing who Daevas was and it was as though she was congratulating her on some great prize and that in itself caused nerves to set in once more. She didn’t really know who he was, but it appeared so many others here understood and knew who the man was and now they would be judging her based on who she was leaving club with. For Better or for worse.
AWritersLove_Daevas   4y ago

Daevas fixed his hat, catching the eye of the waitress who was winking in his direction. A few men had come up and shook his head, sure to make their acquaintance with the businessman and perhaps that he would help them out later on. It didn’t take them long to run away as the woman in question and the star of the night came out in her coat and all of her perfections.

Her blonde curls bounced as she walked, and she had the strut of a star and he was going to make sure that she was going to keep that strut and make sure that she had the matching shoes to go with it. As she came up and said that they should go, he touched his hand on her lower back and guided her outside to his town car that was already running and warmed up. He had called it while she was getting ready and it was long enough to get the car warmed up and pulled around to the front.

He had the door opened for her and let her slip in first before he set himself in beside her. [b “Let me show you something, my side of Chicago. Warehouse please.”] He said and draped his arm along the backside of her seat and looked at her. [b “Where have you been in Chicago, sweetheart?”] He asked as he leaned in slightly, his hand stretching over his knee as he angled himself to look at her.

It wasn’t long until they were on the main road, leading them to the edge of town. He kept stealing glances at her, seeing how beautiful her frame was and he wanted to rip into her and rip all those clothes off but the man had patience when it came to getting the woman to want him. He pressed his lips together as a few minutes had passed and they were passing over the bridge seeing the water below them. As soon as the bridge met land, they took the exit and they were soon turning down the street where there were few street lights on.

Old warehouses, worn down signs were lining the streets. Very few lives were down on the street, some were walking to get out of the cold and others were trying to hide from reality. As the darkness was setting in, they pulled up to the end of the street and together they got out and walked toward a door that had a broken light that twitched on and off. He again held her close to him, keeping her hands on her waist before he had the door oipened and they walked in.

The air was warm when they walked in. Scents of lilac and cherry blossom hung in the air. Stairs led them up to a loft area that was decorated with lights. Bookshelves were on both sides of the room and there was plenty of lounge chair surrounding them. Plants of different species and flowers were stacked periodically through out the room but in a managed order to keep peace with the rest of the room.

Through the windows, lights of the city skyline were lined perfectly in front of them, and at the far edge of the room there was a brilliant fire place that was already with a raging fire producing heat. [b “This is my home away from home.”] He said as he let her go, letting her explore the loft.

Down below was the kitchen, and another living area where he had motioned for the men to go while they settled in upstairs. [b ‘What do you think?”] He asked, soft music beginning to play in the background from the music box as he settled in to let some jazz mixed with classical begin to play.

He smiled as he removed his jacket and hung it up on the coat hanger and slipped off his sports coat, leaving him in his button up, suspenders and loosened tie. There he had begun to make himself a drink at the table next to the coat rack. [b “Would you like a drink or a glass of wine?”]

Ruby ignored those the attempted to pay her attention as she made her way out of the club and she wasn’t too surprised to see that Daevas already had a car waiting for them when the entered the street and she most definitely wasn’t surprised that it was something that seemed rather flashy. It wasn’t until they get in the car that she began to feel the absence of his hand against the small of her back and she waited for him to give instructions to his driver before she turned to smile at him. Although ‘the warehouse’ seemed a strange place to take a lady on a date but she knew that he wouldn’t have taken her to a place that wasn’t suitable for a woman he was clearly trying to impress for whatever reason that might have been.

His arm made its way behind her once more and she smiled as he spoke towards her. [b “The Green Mill.”] She said with a laugh and shook her head. [b “I haven’t seen much of Chicago at all. I’m not from Chicago and I thought that moving here would be the only way I would avoid the judgements of my parents.”] He mood changed slightly when she started to talk about her parents; her smile had disappeared for a moment until she made the conscious decision to avoid going down that road with her conversation. [b” That’s a conversation for another time though.”] Her smiled returned as she looked towards him. His featured looked different in the light of the car yet her attraction to him had not been tainted in the slightest. She had to admit that he wasn’t the type of man Ruby had ever expected to find herself in the company of but that was mostly to do with the fact that her parents would have killed her if they saw her now. She was supposed to socialise with the upper class of society and even though It was very clear that Daevas has money and respect, he didn’t seem like the type that was educated at private school and was taught how socialise with the ‘elite’. Ruby couldn’t be more grateful for escaping that part of her life.

As they continued their journey there were times where she found him glancing in her direction, looking at her a though he could devour her at any moment and even thought she didn’t quite understand it, the feelings were mutual. There was something about him that went against everything she had ever been taught about being a woman but she didn’t plan on allowing herself to fall so easily for a man who would simply play until they were ready for their next toy.

Soon enough they had arrived at their destination and as he helped her out of the car she couldn’t help but be extremely aware of their closeness as they moved towards the entrance. His hands were upon her waist and she could feel the heat radiating for the small distance between the two of them. Her heart quickened once more but she continued to move without allowing anything to show upon her face.

The scent hit her almost instantly as they entered what seemed to be his own special place. She drank in the scents and the sights as she walked into the room and as he let go of her, she found herself wandering to whatever attracted her. Both fascination and intrigue were evident upon her face and it wasn’t until his voice cut through the silence that she had realised that they were now alone. His guards seemed to leave upon instruction and he started to prepare a drink for them.

[b “What to [I I] think? I’ve never seen anything like this. This place is wonderful! I can see why you would call it a home away from home. It seems like the perfect place to forget about real life.”] Ruby smiled and listened to the music he had playing in the background before nodding to his offer of a drink. It would be rude to not accept and she imagined that the kind of wine he had stored here would not be the kind that she should turn away. [b “I would love a glass of wine.”]

The wind had been brisk as they were entering the warehouse and as she soon found out was the home away from home that he took great pride in. He watched her as she was in love with everything as she walked around, looking at everything in fascination. A smile on his lips, he watched her carefully taking everything in. The view with the lake front and the lights of the skyline reflecting in the moving and wavy waters.

Already pouring himself a drink when he offered her some wine, he pulled a specific bottle off the shelf and grabbed a glass from the shelf below it and blew some dust off of it. Uncorking the bottle, he gripped it tightly, letting the fizz fill the glass and soon it was a bright merlot. He filled it up just enough to let her taste to see if she liked it and walking over to her, where she had been looking at his assorted trinkets. He came up behind her, touching her waist lightly as he moved to place the wine glass in her front.

His free hand loosely traced her hip through her gown. [b “I hope you like it. The taste has been in the family for generations.”] He whispered, leaving a kiss on her shoulder before he moved away and walked toward the window where he leaned against the beam with his elbow and looked into the skyline. His eyes were paying attention to the waters, the boats and everything that was moving along the river in front of him. Business was happening in that moment, but he looked back at the woman.

[b “You say you just moved here. Besides wanting to be a rebel child to your parents, and the love of singing, why would a woman like you want to come to Chicago?”] He asked, his eyes traced over her face as he was looking back at her.

[+green “The shipment has been made sir.”] One of his men came walking up the stairs. Daevas nodded and smiled. [b “Perfect Marx, thank you. Be sure it gets returned to where it belongs.”] He said softly. Sounds of moving boxes were made down stairs and they could hear the men talking as they moved things around.

[b “Don’t mind them. Are you hungry? Perhaps after this drink, we can go and get something to eat? Or if appropriate on your terms, I can ask you to come back with me to my town home and we can have a home cooked meal there.”] He said, taking a drink of his own as he let the shadows of the night overcast over him. The room was lowly lit for the path of seduction.

He had set his glass down as he walked over to her. [b ‘Did you like the taste of that wine?”] He asked, coming closer to her again. She was a sight to see and he wanted to finally control his thirst by quenching it with the feel and touch of her. However, he was still holding back. His lessons of being able to be proper to a woman was burned in his brain so he was not going to scare her off just yet. He had had his fair share of scaring with the amount of power that he could have, but he wasn’t about thatlife anymore.

He reached for her and smiled softly, his hands slipping into his pockets. [b “Please forgive me for my forwardness, but from the moment you walked on stage, I wanted to be the one to take you home and give you a life, any woman would be happy to have.”] He said.

He moved her backward to where her back had been up against the wall and he pressed his hands to both sides of the wall on either side of her head. [b “Am I getting a feeling that you would want the same, or am I simply dreaming?”] He asked smoothly, the liquid encouragement giving him a little more boost to be forward instead of subtle.

Again it was his touch that drew her away from her admirations and thoughts. His hand upon her waist caused her to turn around and face him but soon his hand had removed itself but she could have sworn that she could still feel it there. She swallowed whatever nerves his touch seemed to bring her and gratefully accepted the wine from him. There was his hand again tracing her hip and she thought that he might have been able to hear how quickly her heart was beating for it was echoing in her ears again but it was the pressing of his lips against her shoulder and the way he whispered that caused her eyes to close and to inhale deeply as though to gain any form of control in the moment. She burned with desire but she still didn’t know what this man wanted from her.

She was instantly grateful for the distance he put between the two now as it gave her a moment to compose herself while he busied himself with the sights outside. She wondered if he understood or knew what kind of affect he had upon her and whether he was playing a purposeful game that would eventually end with her spending the night with him. Was she really ready to give up any of her virtue to a man she had just met? Was this the life she had always dreamt of when she left her small town?

[b “A woman like me?”] Ruby laughed, wondering what he meant by such a statement. What kind of woman did he think she was? [b “I heard about The Green Mill. It’s a prolific jazz bar and talked about very highly by those who spent time travelling to Chicago for business and I so wanted to see it. I never really expected to move here so quickly. In honesty, that was never really the plan but I only had enough money to get me as far as Chicago and I have a friend here who was willing to offer me a place to stay for a few weeks while I found my feet.”] Ruby was more than grateful for that. If it wasn’t for her friend she would likely have to go home and face her parents and accept the fact that she had lost the battle with them but it seemed that things here were changing and moving very quickly.

A man entered the room and seemed to talk of business towards the male who stood a few feet away from her and she smiled towards him before taking the opportunity to sip the wine. It was unlike anything she had ever tasted and her eyes closed from the pleasure involuntarily. The warmth of the liquid made its way down her throat and the after-taste filled her mouth. It was stunning.

Once again the two were alone and she took another sip of wine before Deavas’ voice moved towards her again. She hadn’t really thought about food until the moment he mentioned it and she cast her mind back to think of the time she last ate. Ruby had realised then, that the only meal she had that day was her breakfast and that she had been avoiding eating anything that might have turned her nerves into some kind of sickness. He was so bold in the way he asked her if she might even go back to his home and she couldn’t help but think that was a bad idea but for now she wouldn’t make a decision about their destination just yet. [b “I actually am rather hungry. Some food would be wonderful.”]

Ruby watched as he set his wine glass down and as he moved towards her she finished her own, if only to distract her from watching him move towards her with such desire. [b “The wine was divine. You say it had been in the family for a long time. Do you mean to say that it is a homemade wine or simply a very good wine that your family purchased?”] Ruby asked anything that might distract her mind from the fact that Deavas was stood close enough that the heat between them had returned. It seemed to be an errand for fools as he started to speak about his feelings towards her. She could hardly believe what she was hearing and for a moment she found herself to be lost for words. He moved closer so that his body was against her own and that forced her back against the wall. A heavy breath escaped her lips and she did everything she could to avoid looking in his eyes as his hands trapped her where she stood by pressing against the wall either side of her.

Ruby’s heart continued to beat faster than she had ever felt it before and she found herself searching for an answer to his question; a question she did not seem to know the correct answer to. [b “I...”] She seemed to find some courage and allowed her eyes to lock with his and it was as though she found the answer so quickly and she nodded. [b “But I’m not a toy Mr Black. I’m not here to be seduced and never spoken to again so if this is some kind of routine to bed me, you are wasting your time.”] She has no idea where that came from or even where she found the courage to say it but if she was going to go anywhere with him, she needed to know that she wasn’t simply his lastest conquest.
AWritersLove_Daevas   4y ago

Daevas was good that she had answered his question about being hungry. However, she didn’t answer his question if she wanted to find a diner or have dinner back at his town home. His eyes traced the female, the one who was definitely playing hard to get as she was still looking at things around the warehouse and stealing glances at him. Every time he touched her, he had to move away with the amount of feelings that surged through him. It was addicting and if she didn’t like, he would have to move on and find the next spark.

But if she would have him, he would find himself wrapped around her finger within the first few months…

Shaking the thoughts away, she stood there looking so beautiful in the lightly lit room. How had he gotten so lucky as to b standing here with possibly the next star of Chicago? Her voice had carried over and had made a difference in many hearts in that jazz bar that evening and her next set was going to be even more amazing. He wanted to show her off, he wanted her to show herself to the world, as he was attracted to those who had raw potential to be great. He would not waste his time otherwise. He wanted to build someone, not fancy and leave.

[b “ Yes, darling, a woman like you. “] He whispered as she answered his question for a second with a nother question before she finished her answer. He only smiled as she had come here penniless practically and she was still pushing toward her dream. [b “Dedicated and determined. I like it. Ruby Darling, a woman like you as I pointed out is not one that comes around very often and actually pushes with raw talent and pushes to fit in with the current society. I have seen many girls flail at the stage life, without the talent, but determined to get there, but after a while they give up. I see in you that you have the talent and energy to push through…”] He said. [b “I hope to see more of your acts soon.”] He whispered as he had come closer after discussing the packagre situation with Marx.

As he spoke of food, she had said that she actually was hungry. He smiled, but noticed that she didn’t really give him a choice as to whether she wanted to go back to his place or find a diner that was open to the public at this late hour. He dismissed it for jnow as he had moved closer to her, drawn by the way she had finished off the glass, takingt the alcoholic drink down her throat. He wanted to be near her, he wanted to touch her and feel those sounds produced by his hands.

The moment that he had come near her, she had a paused breath. Her eyes had widened slightly and he watched her physical body shake slightly as he set a hand on either side of her head. He looked deep into those beautiful eyes and he bit his lip in the process. He wanted to feel her then. He wanted to take her now, but he had to play it safe and hold out and not come on too strong. His words, though was met with doubt and far of being only a toy in this businessman moving world. He nodded, agreeing to her statement and fears.

[b “I understand your concerns, and I don’t want to fill your head with sweet things if you choose not to believe them.”]

He had started speaking confidently, but his words had slowly trailed off as he leaned closer to her. He took in a deep brath, feeling the emotions rush over him and the physical changes his body was undergoing. He wanted to tell her that she was the only one that he had such strong feelings of attraction to, but he didntwant her to believe that it was the whiskey and scotch that was speaking. Instead he anted to show her…physically…both in the physical touch, but in actions instead of words.

His business background had proved that if you could do what you say then you are much more likeoy to succeed rather than just talk all these big dreams. His eyes dipped to look at her lips as she had parted from to speak those fearful words. [b “Darling, instead of letting me tell you what I feel. How about I show you? Or I can do a mix of both..’] He whispered as he lifted a hand to touch her face and there he looked into the woman’s eyes as one of his knees moved slowly to urge between her legs as he leaned her fully up against the wall.

[b “I am not pushing you, but I can promie you and I am a man of my word, that you are not and never will be a toy to me. “] He whispered.

His fingers tracd over her baby like soft skin. She was not only beautiful, but that forbidden fruit looked to be very satisfying from the outside shell looking so tasty. He smiled at her weakly as his fingers broke away from her face and he moved them to run through the strands that hung down from the side of her face. He watched his own fingers, amazed by how soft her hair could be. A natural curl it must be. He smiled, [b “Tell me what you want…And I’ll make it reality.”] He whispered, twirling her hair within his fingertips before grazing a soft touch over her breast as he traveled down to her hip.

His bare hand rest on her dressed hip, and he urged her hips forward to meet his own. He wasn’t going to push her into anything that she didn’t want to do, but he wanted her to feel how much he wanted her. A smile was permanent on his face, but the longer he looked at her, the more drunk he felt. Not from the liquid that burned his throat, but her scent, her eyes, her skin…her body. He could drink it all in and he felt intoxicated. And the only real factor if it was real was her kiss…Would he stand a kiss or would that push him over the edge?
d1gn17yRuby Grant   4y ago

There was something about the way he spoke that made her believe everything he was saying. He truly believed that she was a star and that she could really make something of herself and it was nice to hear that someone had the confidence in her. She liked the sound and the feeling of having someone support her in anything and everything she wanted to do. For now, though, she needed to find out if that support was genuine and it wasn’t long before he was offering her an answer.

Ruby was glad that he didn’t seem offended by what she had said and instead he moved even closer to her and that in itself was something that she didn’t realise was even possible. It was now Daevas whose breath seemed to get a little heavier and she caught him looking down at her lips that were still slightly parted from the words she had spoken before. His voice found her and seductive tone was more than enough to make her weak at the knees. His whisper found its way to her and his hand moved towards her face where he traced his fingers ever so slightly. Daevas’ eyes locked with her own and his knees forced its way between her own to close any distance that still remained between them. There was nothing much that she could say in this moment but that didn’t seem to matter because he continued to talk in that low whisper that caused her to feel things she had never thought before.

He confirmed that he was not simply attempting to use her for his own pleasures and she believed him. There was nothing about the way he acted that suggested anything else but she was still inexperienced with men and she genuinely didn’t know what to do with herself other than to react to the moment. The butterflies in her stomach burst to life as his hand moved across her hair and down her body. Her body shook with pleasure and when he asked her to tell him what she wanted she didn’t quite know what to say. She wanted him; All of him, in any way she could possibly have him but that was not something she could allow to happen. She would not give up her virtue so easily to a man she had just met. It would not have been proper and even though she was supposed to be the rebellious ‘New Woman’ that didn’t mean she was willing to give up parts of herself that she deemed special to her.

It was easily said than done though. The way he pulled her hips into his was making it really hard to resist him and so did the smile upon his lips. Her ragged breath escaped harshly before she shut off her mind and started to react to the feelings that had been stirring within her. Ruby swallowed her fear and parted her lips to speak. [b “I want you to kiss me.”] She said simply, knowing that this could be the end of her sensible approach to the situation. She waited for him to make whatever move he was going to make. She moved her arms up to rest on his shoulders and bit her lip as she waited for whatever might come next.

Rush of emotions. It was a rush of internal instincts. It was the feelings of emotional and physical touch that the two were feeling. Daevas was a man that would hold his own if need be, but the woman standing in front of him was one of his tastes, one of his preferences. The way that she smiled was one that would catch any man off guard. There were no wonder that her parents didn’t want her to be in show business. The men would throw themselves at her, and he knew that as a man who was currently doing just that.

Now, they stood in his private humble abode, away from everyone, isolated to the world where they at the pleasure could look out and view it. It was safe, it was secure, and it was their escape from reality. It was the place where he came to relax, one where he could enjoy waking up in the morning to drink coffee and check morning deliveries that were going to be here by boat or ones that were to meet here by truck.

His mind was far from work at this point. Her eyes had captured his and his breath had been heavier, slow to come and leave his lips. They were drawing slack as they were tracing hers, as his hand had touched her chin before traveling down to her hip, making a few glitches here and there, feeling the swell of her breast and the angle of her anatomy. He wanted to feel every crevice, satisfy every nerve ending. His mind was lost from reality, from reason…He knew something was different instinctively, and he couldn’t gain control.

Even at the club, he felt a ping of jealousy, a ping of protectiveness, a territorial motive on her and it was before she even produced her words hello… She was to be his…Yet, men at the bar, pigs as they were…looking at her as if she was going to be their dinner... She would be a good lunch the next day, but nothing more after that as they would get the call to return to their homeland, away from the city. They would return to base, and leave her without anything but regret and a memory.

He could give her more…

She was still a little naïve to realize that all the men were looking at her in just a way that they wanted a piece of her, her virtue, anything that would signify as sex just to say that they had slept with the singers at the green mill bar…Anything to have something to satiate their thirst.

Yet…Daevas was one that needed someone who was willing to go the distance for them before he would even look at them. He needed a strong and independent woman…and standing there, his body molding itself into hers, he could see that she was going to hold her ground and would know exactly what she wanted. The moment he gave her the option to speak, the option to choose as to what he would give to her, offer to her, produce for her, she wanted nothing more than to kiss him…An innocent answer, but one that could lead to other things…

His eyes met with his charming smile, and he had leaned in closer, their lips inches apart. He could practically hear his own heartbeat in his ears. His hands were rough and warm, but had strength within them to cup her hip and pull her as close as she could stand, forcing her lips to collide with his. A hunger within him was started the moment their lips touched, he felt the animal within him wanting to rip fabric and to bite into the forbidden fruit…He wanted to feel what she had to offer, taste what she had to give, and to pleasure until she was no longer able to stand correctly…

His touch was tender but firm. It was warm, but with purpose. It was not long until his full arm was around her, pulling her closer to him and his knee gliding farther between her legs. He was practically holding the woman in his arms with barely any of her weight on the ground, but he didn’t care…She was light as a feather, one that was fragile and soft, but treated correctly and it could give you so many things. It could produce so many pieces of art…and he was feeling very creative…Creative in the ways that her body would not be able to withstand without releasing it’s forbidden fruit and sanction…

Ruby had no real idea what to expect when they lips finally made that connection that she was longing for but she knew I that she wanted it, more than she wanted anything else in her lifetime. She might have even needed it to fulfil the insatiable desire to have him to herself but she held herself well, waiting for the right moment and waiting for him to fulfil his promise of giving her whatever it was that she wanted from him.

Upon entering the warehouse earlier that evening it had been clear that their worlds were so very different and she never expected to find herself somewhere like this tonight. When she had been sat back in her dressing room she had expected to spend her evening back at home, not quite able to come down from the adrenaline high that she received from performing but now, she stood in the privacy of a man’s personal space where such adrenaline was being caused by the heat and closeness of their bodies. She had forgotten that she had spent her evening performing at a club and that only an hour ago she had the eyes of several hungry man trailing over her as she sang and as she moved. None of that mattered now though.

Ruby might have spent some time replaying her evening, picking apart her performance and thinking of ways to improve it. She knew every step and every word by heart but she would have dissected it bit by bit and made mental changes to the way she performed to achieve her maximum potential but singing and performing for a crowd was now far from her mind, for she only had one person she was trying to appeal to for now. It seemed that she didn’t need to do much to appeal to him, merely her existence was enough and she would never be able to understand why he seemed to want her as much as he did.

Daevas’ lips were only inches away and his touch roughed slightly, giving her an indication of the impatience he was beginning to feel but soon enough his touch had become gentle again, lifting her chin so that he might be able to kiss her with the correct angle. Ruby looked into his hungry eyes while his hand made its way back to her hip, leaving a trace in places where she had not been touched before. An unexplainable sensation was left in the places where his fingers had been and a burning awakened inside of her. Finally, he closed the distance between their lips and he claimed hers for his owns. The second they touched her lips, her head became fuzzy and her body became filled with a new wave of lust and desire. Her stomach lurched with a rush of passion and she tightened the grip of her arms around his shoulders as she moved very comfortably into the kiss.

It was everything she had expected and more; the moment that she received her first kiss. If Ruby hadn’t been so lost in that kiss, she might have even questioned whether he knew it was a new experience for her but her brain had lost any function that required thinking for now. Instead she put all of her energy into reacting to his movement until eventually her lips parted on his to grant him access. Her tongue danced along his as she took the time to taste him even more and as she did, another wave of that unexplainable feeling corrupted her and her legs weakened even further. That didn’t matter though. Daevas was practically holding her up anyway, his leg transfixed between hers and his arms were so tightly secured around her waist, making sure that their bodies were connected the entire time they kissed.

A soft moan escaped her lips and entered his mouth as they continued to deepen the kiss to depths that screamed danger in her mind but she was in no position to be listening to such a warning. Her mind was drunk with lust and her body completely taken over by the passion that came with such a kiss but soon enough her body was crying out for much needed oxygen and she forced herself to break the kiss so that she might be able to breath and as she pulled her head back, her breathing remained heavy and her eyes had glossed over. Ruby rested her head on the wall behind her and waited a moment before allowed her eyes to find his. Her brain function was slowly returning and even though she felt disappointment that their kiss was over for now, she was grateful that her need for oxygen took precedence over her need for him in that moment.

Ruby’s cheeks were flushed a light shade a pink and her body remained limb and she couldn’t help but look away from him again. She had almost lost herself and she had never quite felt so near to danger before. It was exciting and terrifying at the same time and she wondered if he found himself to be disappointed that they were no longer wrapped up in each other. Something told her that if he was, he wouldn’t wait too long before taking her there once more.

The raw emotion she had felt was taking its time to subside but she couldn’t help but wonder what it might have been like if it never did. There would be nothing quite as exciting as feeling like this forever and that was when she remembered he had promised to show her how he felt rather than simply expressing it with words and she could definitely see why he would allow his actions to speak for him.

She allowed her eyes to lock with his once more and her swollen lips turned up into a smile as her breathing was starting to reach as steady pace, unsure of exactly how long that might last for.
AWritersLove_Daevas   4y ago

She was tearing him apart from the inside out. He could not stop it either. He was loss for words every time she looked at him, but he was forced to speak or risk the chance of looking like a psychopath, as he wanted to stare at her. He wanted to take in her features, he wanted to explore her skin with his fingertips, but he did not want to pressure her into doing anything. He was going to take his time, bide for the right moment until it was right and he was feeling that he needed to get closer to her and the moment that she had given him access, he knew that he wanted to take it with purpose. He wanted to show her in a more intimate way other than speaking that he wanted her more than even that.

Within his arms, she was secure and well fought for. He was not sure how the other men would have moved toward her, but then he did. He knew exact how they would react toward her and he knows because he used to be like that. He used to be the one that would do just that. Attack, enjoy, leave, and repeat…He was without manners until one woman had taught him differently…

His mind blinked away the thought of the one who had changed his outlook and approach to the women he wanted, the one who practically force him to look for someone else that would be more compatible with him. Pressing his lips together, he was to stop dilly dallying and when she had said those words, he didn’t take any time at all to lean forward and crush his lips against hers, wanting to feel every kiss that she had ever wanted. He wanted to feel her body change as they finally connected and was dealing with those internal physical feelings.

With momentum, each kiss started deeper than the last…The formalities set aside, they were feeling instincts, feeling what they wanted to go after…and he could not help it. He was a man that when attracted to someone, he was very purposeful in his touch, not weak and shying away. He knew that she would tell him if something hurt her, they would move on, and he would ease up. Without that, then he automatically assumed everything was, okay…He was a man tough, and one that needed direction in the line of pleasing this woman to the best of her satisfaction.

They were forced to breathe and she was the brave one that had broken the kiss. He touched her face, cupping her jaw and letting his thumb slowly glide over those beautifully crafted smooth lips. She was the most beautiful woman that he had ever touched…and she was within his arms at that moment, without anything else…His fingers, light almost like a butterfly, he felt her swollen lips, knowing that in movement with his he had left her satiated to a point of wanting more. He could see the hunger in her eyes, but he could not jump to such conclusions, he wanted her to say it, to initiate it before he would move on…

[b “Would you like to stay with me tonight…”] He asked softly, his words carrying over the small space between them. In his chest, he could feel his heart racing as h wanted to at least hold her for the rest of the night. He wanted her close, he did not want the chance of another man appearing and stealing her away, but he also knew that he would not be able to keep her from his line of work if she was to join him. People would know his connections and they would try to pin point her too. Try to harm her if any deal were to go wrong…he was not sure if he could have that…as many problems were not through his head…he was still waiting for her answer to his question…

Would she stay or follow her gut and go home…?

Every touch left he skin feeling as though it was one fire and even now in the moment that they took to catch a breath, his hand took hold of her jaw and his thumb caressed her lips where his once were. The hunger in his eyes was so obviously returned by her and she had no way to mask it or hide it away from him and she knew now, that if they were to kiss again she would completely lose herself.

Ruby allowed her eyes to close for a moment in hopes that doing so would allow the hunger to subside but as she did, Daevas posed a question that she had not expected him to ask and her eyes shot open, instantly locking with his. She could feel their eyes beating in rhythm upon her chest and her mind begin to race through the possibilities of what might happen if she chose to stay. The decision was something that could potentially have a massive impact on her life. She could stay, lose any virtue that she had left and be branded a whore if anyone were to find out about her evening activities. Although she didn’t think Daevas was the type to speak of his exploits, she could be ruined in one night if she allowed that to happen.

Instead of thinking logically, her drunken mind began to imagine what it would be like to have his hands touch her bare skin and what it might feel like to be completely fulfilled by him and the thought alone was enough to fuel a new passionate fire deep within her and slowly she was losing her train of thought again. Her lust was winning over her head and she was in dangerous ground now.

Ruby had always thought that when the time came, she would be able to control herself and allow it to happen on her terms. It wasn’t socially accepted for a woman to bed without being married but times were changing and she didn’t feel that tradition really applied anymore. However, she didn’t think that she would allow a man to corrupt her so easily, after nothing more than one kiss. She had only met the man this evening and to lay with him, she might just lose herself. There was something about his eyes that attracted her to him more than she would usually be. There was danger in them and a promise that she would be completely satisfied if she were to spend the night with him.

[b “I…”] Words failed her as she searched his eyes to help her answer the question he had posed to her. Ruby wanted to trust that he would still be there in the morning and that he wasn’t the type to toy with her but something deep down was holding her back. Ruby lowered her hand to his chest, feeling every contour of his shoulder on the way down. The very feel of him was pulling her to the more dangerous side of his questions and she took it upon herself to close the distance between their lips once more. Ruby could feel the excitement build up as the man’s lips moved with hers and they fell into a deep kiss once more. She felt an arousal of her senses that told her that soon it would be time to fall even deeper and she pressed her body against him so that she could feel every contour of his perfect body against hers. Her hands began to trace down his torso, allowing her nails to scratch the surface of his shirt ever so slightly in the heat of the moment, but not with that much pressure that it would cause any pain.

[b “I will stay.”] She whispered pulling back him just before she completely lost herself. Ruby wanted him to take back control – needed him to take her in any way he wanted as the desire grew past a level that was known to her. She allowed her smile to draw him in further, knowing that they were both past a point of return now. This was not just a game designed to tease the desires of both parties but they were locked in the heat that would not subside until they both had satisfied the urges that were burning inside of them.

Daevas was feeling the instincts running through his veins, through his fingertips, and through other stiff parts of his body. With each passing moment, he was straining in fabric and he wanted to rip it all off and claim the woman that made him feel this way. With each curve of her lips, with each kiss they shared, he was falling apart and coming undone…

He savored the touch however, letting his hand rub from her hip to her ass where he cupped it closer to him and there she felt his full stiffness against her belly as she was a tinier framed woman…His body had towered over her, but that didn’t matter. He wanted all of her, every piece…he wanted to feel her mouth everywhere, every inch…he wanted her taste…he wanted her sounds in his ears…every piece of it.

The way that she scratched down his shirt, he felt the burning sensation of her touch even through the fabric. He couldn’t help it, he needed her in that moment, he needed her within reach…He picked her up quickly and wrapped her arms around his waist as he pressed her even harder against the wall, his body feeling every crevice, her warmth, her core as her dress was slowly sliding up. He needed her now…

Pressing his lips together, he was a raging wild man when she had told him that she was going to stay the night with him. Now it was only a matter of time before he would be ravishing her and feeling something that he wasn’t sure if he would ever be able to walk away from. However, he had standards.

Pressing his lips together, he let his hands glide across her legs, feeling the softness as he pressed into her hips. [b “I want you now…but I don’t want to stay here tonight..”] He whispered, breath heavy and harsh against his lips.

It was taking every part of him to hold back in that moment, every single part.

He ran his fingers through her hair, tugging on them gently as he leaned against her neck. [b “I will take you here…then after a meal, I’ll have you again…at my place.”] He said, his voice deeper, more seductive. His order was final…unless she had suddenly decided against staying with him. He wasn’t going to budge until she told him to, or he was going to feel the power…one that he needed in his life to get by…

He pressed his lips together, his hips grinding into her own as his lips devoured at her neck, his teeth gliding over her collar bone. She tasted so good, but he wanted all of her, every single…little…taste…Without much more, he was pulling her away from the wall and holding her with a single arm. She was as light as a feather and the adrenaline that rushed through him he was able to move decently paced across the room toward a bed that he had placed in the back corner specifically to stay out of the sun’s rays in the morning and away from the windows so they couldn’t be seen…

Laying her down gently, he was moving her dress aside, ready to welcome her body into his mouth as he was still waiting for her response, but he wasn’t sure if he was going to be enjoying her now or holding on just a little bit…

[b “You won’t be disappointed with either choice you make sweetheart, be very well aware of that.”] He said, his lips gliding alongside the inner part of her leg, his hands traveling to the heel that she wore and all he could do was touch it as he didn’t want to remove them. He had a thing for heels…

Gliding her dress up forward, he paused, raising up from the ground to tower over her and give her a few more kisses, hoping to change her mind if she was doubting him…[b “I need you…”] He whispered against her lips, his hands exploring to feel her warmth, her moisture that had started to build up if there was any. He could feel a little of wetness in his own with anticipation but he was patient.

Straining…but patient.

With every movement he made she found herself falling deeper into ecstasy and as his hand travelled to different parts of her body she felt a trail of burning passion left in its place. The inside of her burned for him and the very feel of what she did to him did all it could to encourage a wetness and a soft sigh against his lips.

Earlier this evening she would never have expected to find herself as the mercy of a man, least not one who has such an effect on her that she couldn’t even put up the walls that she had spent so long building around her. It was never her intention to sleep with a man before she married him but she knew the moment she moved to Chicago that every plan she had ever made in her head had already gone out of the window. It was no longer her desire to wait and the longer she waited, the hotter the first burned deep within her.

Almost as though he was reacting the her he picked her up from where she stood and in reaction she wrapped her legs around his waist to steady herself and allowed her arms to rest upon his shoulders once more as her back pressed harder against the wall that had played a huge part in her ecstasy. Her dress etched up her leg and rested just above the thigh, revealing enough skin to tease the man who so clearly wanted her yet her womanhood still remained concealed by the very thing that wanted her. Her eyes widened at the feel of him and she smiled seductively towards him as he so obviously tried to control himself. At first she didn’t quite understand why he held back and at first she thought it was simply to tease and arouse her further but it was as though he was waiting for her to grant permission. He didn’t seem like the type of man who usually needed such a confirmation but he was definitely holding back for something of the sort.

For the moment, he allowed their need and their passion to hang in the air between them as he stopped to speak. All the while his hand explored the bare skin of her leg at his side sending shivers running through her body. His lips were already on top of hers, hovering a centimetre away and his voice came out in a low whisper. Hearing him tell her that he wanted her only added to her need of him but she understood that this place was not somewhere he would usually spend the night with his female companions and she nodded to show him that she understood. Her breathing was heavy and irregular but almost matched his own as his breath threatened at her skin. She could see the turmoil in his eyes that came with hardship of control.

His fingers found her hair and he spoke against her neck and as he did she could barely control herself. He promised that he would take her now and then again later that evening and the idea of such was more than enough for her whole body to react to him. Their eyes seemed to have very own conversation, searching for something – anything they could use against the other and he was close to having her completely within his control. His breathing matched hers as though touching her was enough fuel for his own desires and she would not need to tempt his desires out for herself. As his hips thrust forward, another moan escaped as his stiffness pressed against her desperation for him. His lips collided with her neck and she tipped her head backwards to allow him better access. He started to pull her away from the wall towards a bed that she hadn’t even noticed until now.

The feel of the bed underneath her was considerably softer than the harshness of the wall but in the moment of ecstasy it was all the same. As he moved her dress she looked towards him as he spoke and lowered himself to kiss the thigh that had exposed itself to him. She couldn’t wait any longer and almost to tease her he rose from his place and found her lips once more, whispering softly against them. She was no longer in control of her inhibitions and her breath caught in her throat as his hands found the centre of her pleasure. Her teeth bit at her lip in an attempt to control her breathing but it was hopeless.

[b “Take me.”] She whispered before meeting his lips with her own once more, almost inviting him to take whatever he needed from her. [b “I need you to take me.”]
AWritersLove_Daevas   4y ago

She was feeling everything he was at that point. His fingers had found her moment of weakness and she was coming undone within his grip. With a single string of words, he was falling apart….

[i “I need you to take me…”]

Her words, so simple and yet meant so much. He smiled softly as he dug inside, his fingers peeling back the many layers it took to get the woman to fold under his control. His lips traveled along her skin. His free hand shed her body of clothing and there he admired the body that she possessed. Each curve, crevice had been touched by a holy grail… Innocent and pure, her body looked to have been untouched by any man, and he wasn’t sure how he was to feel that if she had never been with a man before. Her body looked way too perfect to have been tainted by anyone…

His lips as they traveled down her center, he paused tracing the curve of her hip and his body bending at the knee until he was looking up at her…Her volumptious curves in the way, but he didn’t mind. [b “Have you been with a man before?”] He asked softly, his lips carrying him down to where he could pleasure her with his mouth, and before she could even answer, he had decided to take her breath away. Motion after motion, he let her come to her senses…and there he reached for her, moving up to her lips again before he would finally satisfy his own need.

Pressing her lips against his own, his fingers circled to the back of her neck before he was removing his own clothing. His chiseled chest rough against her own skin and he was coming undone with the intimate touch of their bodies. It wasn’t long until he was satisfying her, going slow and gentle, sure to make sure that every crevice that he entered was fully satisfied with his presence. And there, he was not without a movement that didn’t make him moan out as well.

A couple of hours later, he curled her into his side and shifted the sheets over their naked bodies. His chest was heaving from the satisfaction that was spreading through him. His lids were heavy, but he could feel his stomach gargling and wanting food, but he wasn’t about to leave just yet.

[b “You have become my weakness, darling.”] He whispered, his fingers running through her hair as he gave it a soft kiss on the top of her head. He wanted her over and over again, he wanted more of her now. He wanted her time. He wanted her on his arm at every event. With his business meetings and events, he was going to need a partner there with him. He didn’t want to be the bachelor anymore.

His fingers traced her skin, soft and gentle almost like butterfly wings against her shoulder. His eyes were fading and closing, but he was unsure as to what she was thinking about. Surely he hadn’t expected to go home with anyone, though he had seen Jayne there. Her body wanted his again, but he was not about to touch another man’s woman. He was not for those types of altercations. He understood the bounds of marriage.

Pressing his lips together, he tried to calm his heart, and he tried to keep himself from being mushy. He didn’t want to scare her off with his romantic side. He was usually more comfortable with being a little selfish, a little self centered and worried about himself, but the way that he had wanted her to be more pleasured than himself during their course of making love, he was a different man when it came to the act. His usual round involved selfish movements, forcing the woman he was with to finish him off and get him back up again before he would even touch her…

[b “Did I satisfy you? Or will I be tossed aside like those military men that were looking to take you home?”] He chuckled, moving to his side sure to look into those beautiful eyes. His hand traced her face down her neck to her shoulder and there he traced her arm from her shoulder down to her fingertips in wave lines before he settled into the curve of her hip bone and chest. She was beautiful, a piece of art, and all he wanted to do was mold her close to him again and relive their past couple of hours.

He was joking with her, his smile planted on his face as he ran his fingers through his hair and traced back to his stubble-covered jaw. His eyes traced her own and he leaned forward again, leaning into her kiss, needing to taste her again, needing to feel her warmth and to feel her squeeze around him when she had decided to relieve herself…

It was magical, this woman. The gift that she had given him. The way that she touched him, even in the most delicate of times, the right spots, the most perfect of timing, she knew his body more than he did.

There was nothing that could force the two to turn back now. Her body cried out for him in ways she had not yet experienced but it felt right, like this moment was inevitable to happen between the two. Even the echoing voice of her mother telling her how to be a proper lady had been drowned out by Daevas. Being a lady didn’t matter when she could be a woman with him and she would be. The deeply inset yearning she felt for him would be satisfied and he would ruin every part of her body until they had both been satisfied.

There was not a single word from Daevas to begin with as he started to permit himself to remove her clothing, all the while pleasuring the skin that was now exposed to him. Ruby arched against him when he found parts of her body that reacted to his touch and soft moans escaped her lips with the pleasure that he brought her. He was not yet inside, claiming her for his own, yet she felt completely taken. His lips trailed down her skin until he stopped for a moment. Ruby looked down to where he had stopped to ask her a question about her past exploits. Of course, she had never so much as kissed a man so it was clear she wouldn’t have been with a man either.

He didn’t give her time to answer and for that she was grateful. It might have changed his mind if he knew that she was yet to broken in ways that he would break her. Her breath forced out, ragged and rough as a burst of pleasure ripped through her body, her body arching and shaking with every movement; every touch. She reached her first wave of intoxication quickly. He was skilled and certainly knew where to touch and where to pleasure and as he moved to her lips he found her breathing heavy after crying out with pleasure. Her hands explored his newly bare chest before circling around to the back of him. Soon enough they would be connected to each other, their bodies as one.

Ruby’s eyes widened and glossed over the moment he entered her, the pain of being taken for the first time slowly giving way to the pleasure that began surging through her body as the two moved together, satisfying every need they felt, each one of them expertly serving the other as though they knew exactly how to make the other come undone.

The time that had passed was irrelevant now. It could have been a few minutes or a few hours but in that time they had both fully and completely made the other weak and now they lay breathless and dampened with the heat. He moved to pull the sheets over their bodies and she lay pressed up against him, watching his chest rise and fall until he finally spoke. Although his voice reached her in a whisper, she smiled and allowed her hand to rest upon his chest as his fingers ran through her hair. She liked to think that she had indeed become his weakness because it was obvious that he had become hers. Her eyes closed momentarily as his lips pressed against her forehead and she let out a sigh. She kept her eyes closed now, barely able to keep them open.

For the first time Ruby found that her mind had been completely emptied. There were no thoughts of her parents and how angry they had been when she left for Chicago. There were no thoughts of how she might change aspects of her show to please a demanding audience. Daevas had taken over her mind and she was sure that he would remain a residence there for the rest of her time. He got under her skin and into her mind and it would take a severe detox to get him out of her system and she wasn’t sure that was something she would want or need so long as she had taken over him just as much. A long breath escaped her lips as her heart hammered against her chest. It was a high that she was unsure she would ever come down from but that didn’t matter to her, she could stay there forever.

Ruby’s eyes opened again when she heard Daevas’ voice once more and with it came humour that caused her to laugh subtly.

[b “I am unsure of whether I really need to answer that question.”] She said, not without jest. His body moved now so that he faced her, their bodies still touching as he did and she found his eyes with her own and drank them in. Hypnotic and dangerous. His fingers traced the outline of her body, threatened to make her fall once more and the trance he had locked her in might have made her willingly submit. [b “If it was not yet obvious, then I can confirm that you satisfied me. I don’t think I will be able to toss you aside for some time.”] She said, ending her words in a whisper. That much was true. She was drunk on him and she was unsure that she would ever become sober.

She welcomed his kiss and allowed her eyes to close once more so that she commit the feel of it to memory before they finally separated again. Her hands found the contours of his back and traced his skin carefully. [b “As much as I would love to stay here forever. I do believe that you promised me a dinner.”] Her lips turned up into a smile and although they were both hungry for something more than food, they needed the fuel to allow their bodies to recover.

Daevas’s eyes watched the woman’s as she contemplated the question, it was a look on her face that seemed to her that she was not sure as if she should answer it or not. A chuckle escaped his lips as he continued to trace her hips, sure to feel her bare skin under his fingertips. It was a wonderful feeling.

It wasn’t until she spoke when he fully smiled, moving his hand to her own fingers and he brought them to his lips, giving them soft and stubbly kisses from his stubble around his lips. [b “Pushing you away for any amount of time would be a sin in my eyes.”] He said, his tone low and seductive as he kissed slowly, taking his time as he pressed his lips to her arm from her palm down to her wrist and across her forearm until he was reaching her elbow, pulling her closer to him again. With a drunk smile on his face, he kissed her a few more slow times and finally reached her shoulder and there he looked down at her. [b “You are an angel.”] He whispered before devouring her lips again.

He was lost in her kisses, lost in her eyes in the abyss of her touch and looks that he was finding himself dazed and confused by the time their lips separated. Her smile was dazzling and he felt himself drunk in her intoxication and presentation. She was naked in his arms and he was falling into every crevice as his hand circled her wrist, holding it gently in his hand before he pulled away and chuckled when she said that she would love to stay there forever, but she was promised a dinner.

[b “And I shall not displease a woman. Whatever she wants.”] He whispered to her, giving her another few kisses before he pulled himself from the sheets, leaving himself bare as he walked to gather their clothes. She had had him and he wasn’t going to hide himself anymore from her. He was proud of himself in a confident way, but not in an arrogance. He was aware of his achievement with weights, but was humble to help someone who couldn’t lift things with their own hands.

Turning to face her, he handed her the pieces of clothing he had so quickly torn off her fragile body and there he helped her get back into her dress and stockings in between getting into his own pants and pulling on his shirt and buttoning it over his chest. Tying his tie back to where it was, he ran his fingers through his messed up hair and looked at her, clothed and everything.. He was lost in her look again, she looked great in everything.

Walking over to the phone that was connected to the wall, he dialed his home phone number, glancing at the woman as he leaned heavily against the wall. It wasn’t but two rings when his house maid answer the phone. [+green “Black’s Residence?”] She answered calmly.

[b “Hi Marian, this is Daevas. Can I ask you to cook something quick and easy?”]

Marian laughed on the other end of the line. [+green “Of course Mr. Daevas, of course. Something quick and easy for you coming up. Bringing a lady?”] She asked. The older woman always smiled when he spoke of his endeavours. She was always interested in hearing what ladies he was after and she always had to put in her two cents. And it was the only one that he actually took into consideration.

[b “Yes maam. Make it something special.”] He bit his lip, letting his tongue glide over the bottom for a second as in his mind he was thinking that he wanted to make her special meal for himself…He wanted her over and over again, and she was not getting away without another round tonight….

Hanging up, he looked at her and smiled, wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her close to him, he kissed her lips tenderly. [b “We have food being made for us now.”] He said softly, looking down at her.

Holding her hand steady, he led her toward the stairs. [b “Come on darling, let us go and see what we have for us.”] He said softly, going before her down the stairs to make sure everything was okay when they met down at the stairs. His men didn’t say a thing as they led them securely out to the town car that was already warming up for them.

Letting her into the car first, he stepped in after her, pulling her close to his body when he was settled in. Tiny against his large frame, he let his arm rest along the backside of the seat and his free hand holding her own hand, sure to graze the skin of her legs that were exposed by the dress. As they pulled into traffic, he was settled into saying sweet nothings into her ear, calling her beautiful, sexy, everything a girl wanted to hear, but with genuine intentions. She was definitely something.

Now he only hoped that she could handle his type of lifestyle.

Pressing his lips together, he was leaning heavily against the seat when the front that was cut off by a curtain was split and Marx looked back at him through the rearview. [+red “Sir, we have a situation.”] Marx said stiffly, paying attention to the traffic in front of them.

Looking up at Marx with a simple daze, he smiled. [b “And what is that Marx?”] He asked, his attitude sobering up as their hands still fiddled together.

[+green “The man that we were discussing about earlier today, decided to cheat. We have him up here, on the way home. Shouldn’t take too long.”] Marx said. Daevas nodded his head. [b “Then let us do what we have to do. I would say I’ll let the guys take care of it, but this is very important to me.”]

[b “Darling, we are pulling up to something that will only take a few minutes. Stay in the car. Robert will be right outside the vehicle while Marx and I take care of this.”] He assured her as they pulled down the abandoned street alleyway. Marx was quickly outside of the car, opening the door as soon as the car came to a stop. Leaving her with a kiss, Deavas stepped out and closed the door behind him and there his shadow bled into the night and Marx opened up the door where he saw the man, already with blood on his face as they saw the case with some cash missing from it already.

Daevas sighed heavily and shook his head. [b “I had trust in you that you would handle this.”] Daevas said darkly, looking at the man who was trying to keep his breathing straight. [+green “I have a family.”] He spit out blood in his direction and Daevas simply stepped back, shoving his hands in his pant pockets pulling back his on his jacket and he glanced at Marx.

[b “I will have a family soon too. I understand what you would do to keep them safe, but you made the wrong choice against the wrong person.”]

The man was starting to speak when Daevas glanced at Marx.Marx lifted up his belt and handed him his handgun and the man started to cry and Daevas shook his head. [b “I’m feeling generous tonight, but you’ve pushed me too far. You know how I don’t like cheating against me.”] Daevas growled.

[+green “I wont’….I promise I won’t…Just that my daughter is getting ready for her formal…I wanted to get her the dress that she wanted.”]

Daevas sighed heavily. [b “Marx, does he have a daughter.”] Marx nodded and Daevas lifted a brow. [b “Hm, If I give you 72 hours to pay me back the money you stole from someone else who has cheated me, then I’ll let you go. If not, I’ll have your head. He gave a warning shot, scaling his shoulder and the man cried in pain. The blast echoed slightly and he handed the gun back to Marx.

[b “Let’s go. Drop him off in the dump two miles down. He can walk home and decide what he’s going to do.”]

Coming out, he straightened up his jacket and slipped back into the vehicle. [b “Hello baby.”]

There was nowhere else in the world she would have rather been in this moment. Her body shuddered under his touch and under his lips in a reaction that told him that he had completely taken over her system. Her eyes closed as he traced kisses over her bare skin, letting out soft moans of pleasure as he did. If she were not careful she would lose herself to him for the second time. He mentioned that he had no intention of tossing her aside and the relief swam over her as the last ounce of doubt she might have had washed away.

His lips claimed hers once more and their bodies remained connected by the heat between them. His naked body against hers was something she could easily get used to and she found herself becoming more intoxicated by his touch, his smell and his eyes. It was as though neither of them could pull themselves away from the other but it was getting late and after their activities of the last two hours, there was no doubt that both of them required food to replenish whatever energy they had left.

When he moved away from the bed she used her arm as a rest to prop her head up as she watched him. His body was perfect in her eyes and he moved with such confidence that she was sure the man must have known she had found herself staring at his glorious form. When he returned to the bed he had her clothes and helped her conceal her exposed skin. Somehow everything felt different now. It was as though her body had reached a new height of sensitivity as she felt every movement of the material against her skin until she was completely dressed. When they were both dressed they shared a moment where they simply looked at each other knowingly. They had just had each other and she was sure that it wouldn’t be the last time.

As he made a phone call she began to straighten her hair as best she could so that when he form entered the streets it wouldn’t have been so obvious how she has spent her evening. The way he looked at her made her feel as though she was still exposed to him. The hunger was still there and it appeared that it would be one that she couldn’t so easily satisfy with one mere encounter. It wasn’t long before he was taking her in his arms and kissing her again, the feel of him now becoming very familiar. As they made their way out to the town car she found herself suddenly becoming very conscious about the fact that there has been company nearby. In the heat of the moment she had forgotten that Daevas had his guards posted at the door of his hideaway and the thought that they knew exactly what they had been doing to each other made her cheeks turn to a light shade of pink. As she climbed into the car she tried not to look at them or even think about it anymore.

The journey was very similar to the rest of their evening where he had ensured their closeness was part of their company and he whispered things in her ear that made her want him all over again and she was sure that might have been his intention. Ruby remembered that he had promised to take her again before the night was over and the very thought of that thrilled her and caused a longing deep within her. She has been turned on and she wasn’t sure that she would be able to turn it off.

Their privacy was interrupted by the driver who had announced that they had a situation. They exchanged a conversation that Ruby didn’t understand but she could tell by his tone that it was something serious, perhaps something to do with his business. It would have been rude of her to ask so she didn’t but she remained intrigued by it. She nodded when he gave her instructions to stay in the car and as Daevas left with Marx she did exactly that. An abandoned alleyway was not usually a place of business and when she took in her surroundings she started to feel uneasy. Whatever he was doing might be something a little more than business. She could see another figure enter the street but it was dark and there was very little light that might indicate who it was. They had all become shadows now and she could not make out anything that was happening and she found herself to be relieved by that fact. It didn’t feel right so she pulled her gaze away to look at the curtain before her - the one that had given them their privacy for most of their journey.

It was the sound of a gunshot that startled her and caused her heart to thump against her chest. Her heart had done this many times this evening but this time it was caused by fear. She had no idea what was going on out there, nor did she want to look. Ruby was slowly becoming aware that whatever business Daevas was involved in was not only the normal kind of business that men endeavoured with. She had no idea who she had given herself to now and the fear caused her to back away for him when he entered the car.

[b “Was that... was that a gun shot?”] She asked simply, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to deny that it was. Had she fallen for a dangerous man?

He was not oblivious to the fact when the woman looked at him that he was taken a little bit by her eyes. She had those intoxicating eyes and he wanted to sip on her lips all night….It was a never ending need for her. He craved her touch, her kiss, her look, everything that surrounded her he needed close to him at all times. Having made the phone call, he watched her put her hair up and fix it to look seomwhat normal instead of a sex filled mess. He liked her hair down and flowing, but he wanted her to feel comfortable.

Daevas watched her closely and the moment that he had pulled her closer, she seemed to have a hitch in her breath. He loved the lack of sound in her chest for the second, just to know that he had taken her breath away. Giving her a soft kiss, he whispered that they would have dinner and together they walked out to the car. Her face had turned a little pink. He wondered why for a second and then he was sure it was because she had forgotten about the men who had definitely heard them make love in the upstairs loft. He didn’t care and they were being paid, so they weren’t really interested. They also knew if they were to say anything that he would have them cast aside.

Sitting in the car as they drove out into traffic, it wasn’t long before Marx was telling him about the situation and he was forced to deal with it. The exchange was important and it would cost him quite a bit and hearing that it was failed and didn’t go through, it was severely disappointing. Letting her sit in the car, he went and dealt with the situation which ended somewhat generously for the party that should have been dead, but since he was feeling generous, he gave the man 72 hours to get the money back to him and in the right direction, or he would lose his life.

Coming back in to the car, he was draping his arm along her shoulders when she looked up at him, her eyes wide with fear. She had heard. Pressing his lips together, he felt his own heart race as he simply took in a deep breath to keep himself calm. He knew that she would have questions, but he couldn’t show this part of his life to her yet…if she was going to stay with him…

He glanced downward and fixed his jacket slightly before reaching for her hand. “It was just business baby. A warning shot. No one was harmed.” He said, a little white lie. No one was really harmed. It was a graze. It was a simple flesh wound and really didn’t hurt that much…right? He looked at her and traced her face with his free hand.

‘I had an agreement with someone to deliver a package for me, an exchange that was very important to me. The man decided to cheat me, so I had to give a stern talking to. And people don’t listen if you just yell at them. It was just to get his attention.” He said, gulping a little. He glanced forward, seeing Marx’s eyes in the rear view mirror and he could tell that the man was telling him with his eyes to not speak so much about it. He nodded briefly before looking back at her.

“I don’t mean to scare you, if I did. That was not my purpose. It’s just work.” He said softly and it wasn’t long before they were pulling up to the townhome that he called home and he was opening up the door and stepping out when he reached for her hand. “I promised you dinner sweetheart.” He said softly, in the back of his mind he was feeling worried about what the woman was thinking…Would she leave? Would he never see her again?

He wasn’t sure if she was going to get out of the vehicle. He wasn’t sure if she was going to budge, or she would be stricken with fear. She didn’t really know anything about him, and he didn’t expect her to stay if she felt uncomfortable with him…He would never let anything hurt her, and he was definitely not going to let her be without protection from now on, even if she didn’t want anything to do with him after hearing that one shot…In the back of his mind he knew it was too early to show work to her, and she wasn’t in the room, but was within ear shot…She could make up her mind and she could leave…

“If you choose to leave though, my men can ensure you a safe ride home…” He offered, still fearful that she would want to leave him for the night to think up what she will about what he did for a living and never want to see him…

Oh the many possibilities that ran across his mind were endless and he found himself circling himself crazy in his mind. It was driving him crazy…

There was something about the way he looked now that suggested he was dreading being asked the question. He awkwardly started to fix his jacket to distract his mind for a moment and perhaps take some time to construct an answer to her question, all the while different thoughts ran through her mind about the different reasons he could give for there being a gunshot. Even though she found herself fearful at the thought, she hoped that he would not try to lie to her. It was not as though their relationship had reached a point, in one night, where they had complete honesty and trust between them but she had hoped that that man who had claimed her virtue for his own would not attempt to mislead her in any way if her had any sort of feelings towards her.

When he reached for her hand it took all her energy to not pull away from him. She didn’t want him to feel as though she was scared but she was sure that her eyes would be enough to tell him that. Ruby did not withdraw her hand but she nervously avoided his gaze, looking down at the hand he encased with his own. When he spoke she allowed her eyes to find his again. She hadn’t expected him to tell her anything, she thought he might try and pass her off as being a crazy woman who was hearing things of her own accord. Ruby had already met several men who often treated their women as though they couldn’t think for themselves and tried to hide everything from them but Daevas seemed to be telling her his version of the truth and she believed him. The sincerity in his voice told her that he wouldn’t lie to her and she allowed some deep breaths while his free hand reached out to trace her jaw.

This was Chicago and she knew that life here would be different. She had heard of business on the streets and how it was more common for guns to take part in everyday life here but she had not expected to come across it within her first few days of residing there. He continued to talk again, offering her an explanation, telling her of his business until he decided to look towards Marx to share a quick look that she missed because she was too busy focusing on calming her beating heart. It really was none of her business how Daevas conducted his transactions and if he told her that no one was harmed, she had to believe him because there was nothing else she could do but she lost herself in her thoughts until the car had pulled to a stop again. Ruby assumed that they had arrived at his home where she had forgotten he was bringing her to, if only for the briefest of moments. It wasn’t until he opened his door and offered her his hand that she remembered he was expecting her to join him for dinner.

Her mind raced, searching for the right thing to do. She had felt such a connection to the man that she knew she would follow him anywhere. Ruby had felt a pull towards him the moment their eyes had locked together and it was not something that she could see herself giving up in an instant. After all, it was partly the danger in his eyes that had intoxicated her in the first place. The way he had wrapped her around him in such a short space of time was something she could barely even contemplate.

Ruby looked down at his hand and gulped, swallowing the fear that had arisen within her the moment she had heard the gunshot. She was sure that he would never cause her any harm and really, that’s all the fear was initially. Fearing that she had fallen for a dangerous man who might one day bring her into danger. The look in his eyes told her he would never let that happen and for now, that reassurance was enough for her to take his hand to help her climb out of the car.

[b “That won’t be necessary.”] Her voice was quieter now, almost as though she had lost some of her confidence but she knew that only a few moments alone with him would bring it rushing back and the sound of the gunshot would be forgotten in an instant. The chill of the night air consumed her as she stepped out of the car and she drew in a breath through her teeth before shielding her arms from the cold night that had greeted them. If it had been this cold before, she hadn’t noticed with the heat of the moment that they had shared but now she was completely aware of it.

[b “You did indeed promise me dinner and I agreed to attend. It would be unnecessary for me to walk away from you now.”]

He could see th elook in her eyes as her mind was going crazy. He could feel that she was tearing apart everything he was saying, at least he felt like she was. She might have been, she might not have been, but he knew that she was paying attention to him now, putting it into perspective as to what kind of business was ran around here in Chicago. The darker side of the pretty champagne and all the glittery fancy objects. It was for show to cover up the blood stained on the clothing. It was to hide all the mistakes that have easily been covered up with a life…one that was more than likely not meant to be taken. Or meant to be taken, but it was deserved, but in the wrong sort of way…

Either way it was business.

And Daevas was apart of it.

Daevas looked at her, his fingers surrounding her own as he spoke, already giving too much information as it was when she looked at him, but in his chest, he was urged to tell her what was going on, but he knew that if he said too much then she would definitely run..She would definitely walk away without even a single turn to look back at him. And he wouldn’t be able to stop her. He was not that type of man unfortunately….He let women walk away, sometimes he would unnecessarily force them to walk away. His attitude was taken different ways to many different points of view and who was the beholder seeing all of his actions. He hoped that she was able to look past his work and understand that the intentions were right…well kind of.

He looked at her, watching her eyes trace his face, anything to grasp something that he wasn’t going to turn around and kill her just because she would walk away. He didn’t know how to show her without spewing out every word in the book to explain that he wouldn’t let anything happen to her. He would let a single hair on her head be touched by anyone that was trying to hurt her from now on, but he definitely wasn’t sure if she would even believe him after the sound that he had been the cause of.

Keeping her hand in his, he climbed out and offered her the choice to come with him or stay in the car and proceed to go home for the night. She had every right to walk out, to let his men drive her home, and to let them make sure she was securely locked away. He had paused, making sure that she was certain in what she wanted to do before he said anything else, wanting to make sure it was of her own choosing and not of his begging on his knees like he had just contemplated doing.

Watching her carefully, he looked at her and felt a smile on his face come alive when she said that it was no use in going home after she had already promised to come to dinner with him. He grinned practically gripping her hand tighter as he let her out of the vehicle and let the door close behind her. In that moment, he looked back seeing a light shadow for a moment before it was gone and he didn’t see it again.

Leading her up the stairs to his town home, he opened up the door, took a second glance outside and then let the men follow on. He would lock up the home securely and the moment the alarm was on, The maid that was in the house, his good friend would already know that she had a bed in the spare bedroom downstairs. He was for sure not the type to leave a maid that did so much for him without a bed to sleep in when he felt uncomfortable for them to go home.

Pressing his lips together, he closed the door tightly after saying bye to Marx and he glanced back at Ruby. “May I?” he asked, reaching for her coat to take it off and leave it on the coat hanger.

The house smelled of Cajun seasonings. It smelled of something rich and spicy. He could only imagine what it was. Taking off his own coat and hat, he slipped off his tie, pulled out his keys and set it on the table next to the stair way. To the right there was a living room, the couch so elegantly placed. Black leather surrounding it and black and white hide leather rug on the floor. Lamps matched the décor, with hints of silver on their bases.

He reached for her hand which he softly put in the crook of his arm as he led her down the hallway through the stairs and into the kitchen that was in the backside of the house. It was bigger than most and the appliances were newer than most. The oven was open, keeping the house warm as she was cooking and his maid, Marian looked up, her brow with drops of sweat. “Mr. Black.” She said, her wrinkled face smiling eagerly to see him.

He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her when she lent up from the sink. She was a little sweaty but he didn’t care. “Thank you for cooking on such short notice.” He said, looking at her. She touched his face, her dark skin striking difference against his lighter tone. “I worry about you sometimes. I was going to leave you something right when you called. I was thinking you weren’t going to be home but be in that office working away tonight.” She said, looking at him then slowly smiling from a glare. He returned it and looked behind him to see Ruby standing there hopefully in the doorway.

“This, Marian, is the woman who you will be hopefully seeing around for a while. This is Ruby Grant.”

Marian’s eyes lit up for a moment. “Ruby Grant? I’ve heard that name!” She said, clasping her hands together before she walked over to the woman and grasped her own close to her face before she did a small curtsy. “You were the opening act at the Green Mill tonight. Oh! I bet you were wonderful if you caught Mr. Black’s attention. He’s picky on who he decides to bring home.” She chuckled and looked back at him.

“Sir, everything is laid out on the table, set for two. Candles and all are decorated just as you had asked.” She said before walking away into the other room to straighten things up. Daevas led her to the next room over, showing her a Cajun gumbo with biscuits and jumbalaya. She had definitely taken her time to do so. It was bringing Louisiana to them.

His hand tightened around hers when she agreed to move forward with the plans they had already made. As she climbed out of the car, she took a minute to take in her surroundings. His house was certainly impressive in comparison to what she had been used to. Ruby had been living in a small house at the edge of town with a friend and that was nothing in comparison to this one. Her lips parted in awe for a moment as Daevas seemed distracted by something behind her. If there was something there, she had not noticed it herself.

His attention seemed to return to her as he led her up the stairs to his home and as she moved, she was careful not to allow her heels to catch on anything so that she did not trip. Luckily, she was able to manage her composure as she climbed them and stepped through the door that he held open for her. He had not lost any of his courteous manners even though he seemed to have been handling a gun only moments ago. For now, that was a thought that she tried to put out of her head. His manners continued as he offered to take her coat and she nodded in response. She maneuvered to allow him to better access to the material that slowly slipped from her shoulders so that he could place it out of sight for the time being.

Ruby allowed a sigh to escape her lips, almost as though the loss of material was a relief to the woman. She smiled to herself as she took in the sights of the hallway and the smells that seemed to travel towards them. She had not realised how hungry she had been until the smells of rich food began to intoxicate her, much like Daevas had earlier that evening. She turned to observe his routine of settling in to the house and noticed that he started to loosen the business elements, taking his tie off. How was it that something as simple as removing a hat and tie made her want to lose herself in him again? She swallowed the growing desire as he took hold of her hand, allowing it to rest on his arm so that he could guide her through the house with ease.

Their destination, it seemed, was the kitchen and as they neared, her senses came alive with all the different smells. She allowed her eyes to close for a split second so that she could breathe it all in without any visual distractions. When they finally came to a stop, she took the opportunity to look around the modern kitchen. It was becoming very clear that Daevas was obviously well off and kept the best appliances and the fact that he had a member of staff cooking for them spoke volumes in itself. Ruby retracted her arm so that Daevas could greet the woman and she smiled as she watched their embrace. It was clear that their relationship was something a little more than an employer-employee relationship and she enjoyed the opportunity to observe their mutual affection.

She waited in the doorway until she was addressed directly and when the woman smiled warmly towards her she returned it easily. Daevas introduced her and in the process, mentioned that she might be around for a while. There is was again. That uneasy feeling she had felt the moment she heard that gunshot. Although she had been so invested in him earlier that evening, she was not sure whether she was completely comfortable with what had transpired yet. She still didn’t know what his intentions were when it came to her but she was sure that they would discuss such things over dinner. It was clear he did not want to let her go, but whatever form their relationship would take was yet to be decided. All she knew was that it was likely that the woman would need some time to process things before she permitted herself to commit to him completely if that was indeed what he had hoped.

The way Marian reacted to her brought a smile to her face and pulled her out of her thoughts. She almost chuckled to herself when the woman curtseyed, never having been greeted in such a way before now.

“It’s lovely to meet you. The food smells simply wonderful.” She said with a polite smile until she explained to Daevas what she had been doing since his call to her. Soon enough she was being led into the room where they would dine for the evening and her eyes lit up at the sights. The food certainly looked as good as it smelt and she found herself more than ready to devour it. She turned to Daevas. “You get this sort of meal every night?” She asked with a raised brow wondering what it must have been like to live such a luxurious lifestyle. She had never really had a meal cooked for her by anyone other than her mother and most of the time the food that she ate had been prepared by herself. Ruby was rather talented in the kitchen but that also meant she knew how to appreciate a good meal when one had been served to her. This was most certainly a good meal and one that she would appreciate.

“Often, yes.” He said as he held out the chair for her to take a seat. The different scents of gumbo moved slowly around the dining room, it fille dit completely and Daevas was always appreciative of the woman who cooked for him when he had come home late nights and there was still something in the ice box for him. He sat down across from her, looking at her bouncy blonde curls reach her face. He could still see the effects of their love-making on her hair, but it was slight and if you weren’t paying attention you wouldn’t have notice. Her body was simply tantalizing, and if his stomach wasn’t growling so much, he would have asked her to join him upstairs for his own personal meal.

He pressed his lips together and straightened out his silverware when he glanced at Marian. “Thank you darling, for cooking this. I don’t want to keep you from your family. Do take my town car. If my men give you any trouble, let me know tomorrow in the morning.” He nodded toward Marcus and Marcus nodded his head following behind Marian who gathered her things. “Thank you sir.” She said softly, looking at him and Miss Ruby before disappearing down the hall and walking out with Marcus.

The silence filled the room in the point that the door was shut. Trees were hitting the back window next to the kitchen, and there were sounds of birds here and there, but it was mostly quiet. He ate slowly, touching his napkin to the corner of his lips after a few minutes of enjoying the meal. He was sure that she had plenty of questions, and now would be the time to ask. As he was not a man that wanted to keep things in the dark, and he felt that their situation was still hanging heavily on her mind.

Just an assumption, a flaw of his over-thinking mind.

Daevas leaned heavily in his seat, taking a look behind her and through the windows. Nothing was there, but he was always certain that someone was watching him, but his paranoia was the reason why he had such updated technology. He worked hard enough during the day to ensure he had security at night. He pressed his lips together and draped his free arm along the top edge of the chair next to him as he looked at her. “How is the food, my dear?’

It was a simple question, and he was sure that it would lead to other thoughts, other paths, other stakes in the conversation that would lead them to more than likely the shooting sound that had split through the silence and perhaps their bond that was growing steadily between them. He traced her face with his eyes, looking for some sort of clue, the way that she looked at him, he wanted nothing more than to bend her over the table and give it to her a little roughly, but he was satisfied with watching her enjoy the meal Marian had worked so hard to prepare.

She must have been working on it all day, as he had noticed that she took some home with her, which he was perfectly fine with.

Waiting a moment, he ran his fingers through his hair and then set it back on the back of the chair. He took a moment to encourage himself to speak and directly get the point across the table. He wanted to get the conversation across and in the open. “But now, we are alone, and I am sure you have questions. I know earlier some stirred questions up, and I feel my explanations did not satisfy your curiosity.” He said, glancing at her, tracing those deep blue eyes. He wanted nothing more to know what she was thinking so then he could direct her thoughts.

He wanted nothing more than to ease her sudden fears that have probably built up. It was in the back of his mind that it was too early for his work to come in too close to his new relationship. There were others that he knew and had relations that he could simply take them in there with him as they knew his lifestyle. They themselves were around the same thing daily, and there were only consequences of people’s choices that led to these things.

“It is free range my dear. I don’t want to hide things from you, though I do warn you, do not ask the questions you do not want to know the answer to.”
d1gn17yRuby Grant   4y ago

It certainly was a completely different side of life here. From the moment she looked upon the house she knew that Daevas was clearly a wealthy man, but to hear that he spent most evenings dining in such a way was undoubtedly eye-opening. As he spoke, Ruby couldn’t help but wonder whether he was alluding to the fact that he often entertained women in such a way. Instead of allowing her mind to dwell on such things she decided to distract her thoughts with other things and lowered herself into the chair that he had held out for her, thanking him as she took a seat.

As he sat opposite her she could feel his gaze on her with that hungry stare that she had come accustomed to in the short time they had spent together. Her hand played nervously with her hair as she tried to avoid his eyes while Marian continued to tend to the table. His demeaner was so kind and caring that she could hardly believe that he was the same person who had felt the need to handle a gun to complete his business. It was surprising that someone of wealth would treat one of his employees in such away and that thought brought a smile to her lips. She had experienced men of wealth before and they were certainly not as kind as Daevas appeared to be.

Soon enough they were left alone, both feeling the need to appease their appetites after the couple of hours they had spent working it up. The silence was not awkward or uncomfortable but one that Daevas seemed to feel the need to expel as he took a break from eating the food before them. This time she permitted herself to look into his eyes as he questioned her taste towards the meal, not wanting to appear rude. She placed her cutlery down and reached for her napkin so that she could cover her mouth as she finished the bit of food she had just taken before nodding towards him.

“The food is wonderful. You must make sure that my gratitude is passed on to Marian when you see her again. She has quite the talent when it comes to flavours I see.” She said, looking down at her half empty plate. It was quite unlike any food that she had eaten before but her tastes were usually quite simple and such rich flavours were simply not custom to the type of food she usually ate back home. Whatever Marian had done with this food was working for her and if she wasn’t already beginning to feel satisfied from the meal, she might have insisted upon eating plenty more.

Ruby set her napkin down on the table and allowed her hands to drop into her lap, one absently playing with the other to distract her from the nerves that she was beginning to feel. Daevas’ posture seemed to change and she was sure that their conversation was no longer going to remain on the topic of food. Her throat started to close up and she swallowed in order to lubricate herself so that she might be able to speak. Of course, she was curious about what he might have been hiding from her but part of her was slightly terrified to learn what he might have to say to her. He could tell her something that would bring their acquaintance to an end and that was not something that she wanted.

The way he said his final words did more to suggest that there might have been some danger to him. It was the danger that she had been attracted to but she couldn’t help but wonder what that could mean for her. Ruby knew that it was unlikely he would hurt her but that didn’t stop her from worrying about what he might have done to those around her. No matter what, she needed to know more about him, especially since their attraction appeared to be quite strong. The last thing she wanted was to get her heart broken further down the line because she had allowed him to keep secrets from her.

“I want to know what kind of business you are really in. Most business transactions do not require the use of a gun and I cannot help but think that this might have been something a little bigger than you are letting on.” She took a deep breath as if to brace herself for whatever answers might come and looked into his eyes, searching for any kind of hint, hoping that he would only tell her the truth.
AWritersLove_Daevas   4y ago

Daevas had leaned heavily against the back of his chair, his arm draped across the one next to him as he looked at her, simply tracing the look of her face and her posture. She showed that was not quite comfortable with his intense stare at her, but she didn’t seem to flinch at anything he did. He pressed his lips together, rubbing his fingertips together for a moment in place of their silence. It definitely was not awkward or unusual of the silence as they enjoyed their food. He always loved Marian’s food even when it was quick and easy. If he was to follow some of her recipes it would take him hours to cook something that usually took her maybe twenty minutes total both in preparation and cook time.

“Often what I mean is I usually have it in my office. She is gracious enough to bring it to me some nights or the men deliver it to me. I usually am in the office working late after everyone else leaves.” He said softly, his eyes tracing the food as Marian finished up tending to everything. He smiled at her as he mentioned the car to make sure that she got home safely. He knew the temperament of many men these days when it came to ladies of color, but he was not one of those. He held standards for how people treated himself as well as his employees. They were not objects, but people. He learned that at a very young age…

Expressing her gratitude to his question, he nodded once and smiled evenly as he reached for his napkin, holding it loosely in his hand before draping it over his leg out of habit. “I will definitely let her know when I see her next. She will be happy you liked the food. She for some reason is always a little insecure about how she makes food.” He said, glancing at the food that she had prepared. It not only satisfied his nostrils, his taste buds were very happy with the exquisite tastes. Smiling at her, and as they people had left it was only moments of silence before he knew that they should go ahead and discuss her worries that were seemingly plastered all over her face.

The way that she was twiddling with her hair and with her fingers in her lap, he knew the woman was intelligent and would want to have some answers with what was going on around her. She was not oblivious as he had noticed in the car when she had been a little worried about his exchange that included the sound of a gun going off. Letting his words come slowly and meaningfully over his lips, he watched how she was a little more uncomfortable with what was going on. He didn’t mean to come across that way.

In a way he did, and it was the kind of man that he was. He was gracious and generous, but when it came down to business and discussing those matters he was guarded and very careful in the words that he would possess. Unsure how the woman would take his words, he waited patiently, wondering as to what questions she would have the heart to ask. His matters were private and he was not very comfortable with letting a complete stranger in, but if she would stay around after hearing a gun shot, it was definitely a risk worth taking…but only a little risk. Nothing major…

[i What kind of business you are really in…]

Oh the words made him want to smile, but he decided not to as he didn’t want her to think that he was mocking her. Pressing his lips together in a hard line as he watched as her lips curved to produce the words. Such courage…Straight to the point and very much in tune with what answers she wanted. He gave her props, he was used to women asking him where all the places he had been or something similar since he was the bachelor that was young and wealthy. He leaned forward and rested his elbows on the table softly and tangled his fingers together. “I figured you would come out right and ask that.”

He met her intense stare with his own and he cleared his throat, moving his dishes to the side for a moment and then he settled back into the comfortable position again. “I am CEO of Black Industries. I engage in the different transport of mechanical parts and prints to different buys all across the world. We build, design, and plan the structures of modern vehicles and other forms of transportation such as jets down to the simple boat in the water. We are in constant need of ideas and ways of enhancing the machines we use on a day to day basis.” He sighed heavily. “And you are correct, most business transactions do not require a gun. This is an instance where the dark side of business has to come into play.”

He ran his fingers through his hair, looking off. “I am a man of integrity and honesty. I am not one to cut corners in either creation, installation, or the performance of my products that I give to this world. The earnings of all the hard work my employees are put forth are very important to me.” He said softly, his eyes slowly returning to her own.

“What you heard tonight was a paid employee that crossed my boundaries of generosity and decided to be greedy.” He sighed. “We found that after a package that I had paid to deliver was not the full amount, we traced it back to his hand in it. Apparently he had been stealing from me for months now.” He lifted a brow, his face completely serious now. “I do not take stealing a light threat. As I am aware that everyone in business faces these things, but I require standards of the men and women who work for me. Some people will never understand that.”

He bit his lips for a moment before releasing it slowly. “I hate to go into the basics of guns, but the man himself was setting me up to look like a cheat. My reputation as a businessmen is what keeps me competitive in this day and age. I have plenty who will stand by me as I have always held up my end of bargains. It was a warning more than anything.”

Her traced her face with his eyes once more, unsure if she would believe anything that he was saying. “There are simpler ways of handling this, such as firing him or suing him, but unfortunately throughout my time working with the justice system I am faced with the fact that my business matters simply do not matter to them. In the stance I take in my company I am the Judge, Jury and Executioner.”

Part of her did not really want to know the answer to the question she had posed. She was overcome with the fear that he might admit something that would put an end to whatever it was between them. Although their first meeting had been that very evening, she knew that it might break her heart if she were to never see him again. The pace of her heart beat was quicker than usual and she bit her lip nervously, waiting to hear whatever it was he had to tell her. All she could do for now was attempt to read his impossible expression. The silence between them seemed to last for a lifetime and she watched him as he shifted his posture so that he was now leaning over his elbows on the table.

When he addressed her, she could not figure out whether he appeared to be angry with her question. His expression gave nothing away as their eyes locked together, every moment her heart threatened to beat right out of her chest. He seemed to shift his posture again before laying it all out for her. Of course, she already knew that he was the CEO of Black Industries. He was not telling her anything she did not already know yet but she continued to listen without a moment of interruption. At least now he seemed to clarify exactly what it meant to be CEO of Black Industries. It was nothing that she understood and none of his explanation seemed to tell her why he felt the need to carry a gun in order to succeed in his business, at least not yet. She swallowed when his side of the conversation seemed to move towards addressing her initial question.

Ruby felt relief when he looked away for a moment as he continued to talk. She used the moment to compose herself and forced herself to stop biting at her lip anxiously. She could understand the passion he felt for his work and she recognised that he cared a lot about his reputation and his business. When his eyes met hers again she could have sworn that something stabbed at her. If there was one thing Ruby would never understand, it would be the effect that this man had on every ounce of her being. She wasn’t even sure she would be able to leave him if he were to admit he was a cold-blooded murderer. That thought alone terrified her.

As he began to offer her an explanation she was slowly beginning to understand why he had threatened the man but there were surely better ways to deal with an employee who stole from him. What she could not understand was why Daevas hadn’t simply called the police and allowed the law to deal with it like most businesses would have. As if he read her mind he moved on to explain why he could not simply go down the route of law and she took a moment to contemplate what he had told her. She couldn’t pretend to understand the complexities of running a business, nor could she pretend to comprehend the amount of pressure he must have felt on a day-to-day business, simply for being the man he was.

[I Judge, Jury and Executioner.]

How many times did he had to embody the role of an executioner in his line of work? Ruby allowed the silence to settle between them for a moment as she started to formulate some sort of response. She allowed herself to take a deep breath before nodding towards him.

“I guess that I might understand why you feel the need to go about your business in the way you do but I cannot pretend that I enjoy the thought of you ever being anyone’s ‘executioner’.” She paused for a minute, taking the opportunity to look towards the window before looking back towards him. “I appreciate your honesty. I suppose it really is none of my business and you could have simply told me that it was not my right to know.” Even now in the most plutonic of moments, she still felt the desire to climb over the table towards him and allow herself to fall into his passion. The very thought made her stomach flip and the heat rise to her face without so much as warning.

Ruby cleared her throat. “Thank you again, for hosting this dinner. I rather enjoyed eating something a little more upmarket.” She said with a smile, trying to change the conversation to something less serious.

The way that she looked at him told him that she was clearly affected by his movements, by his gaze, and earlier proved that she was affected by the way he touched her. It was satisfying knowing that the woman had a draw to him, because it settled it the thought that he had in the back of his mind that she could walk away without a single look back. It was a rather disturbing thought but he knew he had to stand his ground if she decided herself that she could not handle being in his life simply because of his line of work.

Her eyes seemed to be comforted when he offered the explanation but he could see some look of confusion spread over her face, but the way that she spoke to him showed otherwise. She spoke very educationally and with ease, though her voice and face did not match. The way that she looked at him made him think that she wanted him again and yet her words were not matching the thoughts that were unknowingly similar. Continuing to look at her, he simply nodded his head. “I don’t expect you to.” He said simply. “You asked for an explanation after I gave you permission to ask, so of course I obliged.”

His eyes traced her face as a smile came across his face. “I do not want to hide anything from you. My intentions with you are very clear. I want you here, in my arms…in my life.” He said, his eyes never faltering from hers. Seriousness was spread over his face. He meant every word. He knew from the moment that she was alone with him and kissed his lips that he wanted more than just a one night stand or a contract…

As she expressed her gratitude for the dinner and him hosting it, he couldn’t help but smile a little more. “You’re very welcome. I like to treat my guests with utmost respect and how I do that is through their stomach.” He winked at her with a chuckle before he pulled his napkin off his lap and set it beside his plate.

As he looked at her again, the thought of how beautiful she was spread across his mind. It was plastered there, and all he wanted to do was give her the world. Yet he knew…small steps. Rushing led to nowhere. With a deep exhale, he looked around and stood, pushing back his seat and come around the table, holding his hand out to her.

“I would like to show you something.” He hoped to clasp her hand and help her stand. His eyes looking down at her as he would do so, feeling his fingers encircle hers. A smile on his face. A charming man that he was…he wanted nothing more than to sweep her off her feet and carry her away. The way that she was…it intoxicated him. He wanted nothing more to have his fill every day of his life. He could see it in the subconscious of his mind…

“Just trust me.” He chuckled as he led her up the stairs. Reaching the top, there was a string that led to a small cubby hole in the ceiling. He let the ladder string down and he climbed up first so then he could help her find her footing and get up with him. There they would stand in the middle of the attic of the third floor of his town home. It was quiet and stuffy in the small area. Boxes were stacked against the wall of the small space and he had to wrap his arms around her to keep her close enough so she wouldn’t hurt herself.

“Watch out, the spikes from the roofing are very dangerous around here.” He said as they walked toward the small window along the far wall that was mere feet away from them. He reached for the latch and pulled it just right so that it would click and then creak open. There, it was the perfect view of Chicago. It was high enough to see everything in the city…at least see the skyline just perfectly. The moon had made its reflection on the buildings and the light spread over the city, but the soft city glow sparkled from there position.

“I wanted to give you another sight that you could appreciate in this big city.”

His fingers traced the small of her back as he leaned a heavy arm against the tilt of the structure, his arm crooked from the weight slightly. He wanted to see her reaction to the sight as his eyes traced her side profile…Even in the moonlight she was beautiful…at every angle.

Ruby watched as he seemed to keep his intense gaze upon her. She was almost sure that he knew exactly what she was thinking and feeling in every single moment. It was as though he was peering into her very soul when he looked at her, drinking in every aspect of her that he possibly could. The way he smiled told her that he had more to say and as he spoke, every single word etched into her. She believed every word but there was still something that allowed a small crease of doubt to enter her mind. Their acquaintance was still so new and to proclaim that he wanted her directly in her life was a terrifying thought. She had only moved to Chicago a few weeks ago and with a new job to manage, she wasn’t sure whether a relationship would be too much to handle, especially since he appeared to have an element of danger imprinted upon his lifestyle.

Rather than making any attempt to relay her feelings to him, she had changed the subject successfully but she couldn’t help but blush when he winked towards her. There was something about him that made her feel as though she was no longer the strong, independent woman she considered herself to be. With him, she was nothing more than a woman who could so easily fall in love with a man who had claimed her virtue for himself. He was certainly holding all the cards and she was unsure of how that made her feel. It wasn’t until he was standing beside her and holding his hand out to her that she even realised that he had moved out of his seat in the first place.

For a minute, she simply stared at it, wondering what might happen if she were to take his hand; wondering whether she could trust herself to withstand his intoxicating effects and remain sober in his presence. Whatever he had to show her could have been the end of her will to stay away from him. Her gaze moved from his hand to his charming smile and she found herself taking his hand and rising from the seat that had grounded her for the time they had spent dining together. For a moment she stood there, entangled in his gaze unsure of what he might want to show her expression must have showed her nervous anticipation as he tried to reassure her.

“I do not know why, but I do trust you.” She said simply, returning his smile before following him upstairs. The butterflies in her stomach seemed to awaken as they moved. Unwarranted nerves overcame her as she began to consider all the possibilities that might have motivated him to take her upstairs. He had already taken her once this evening and knowing that devious look in his eye it was a possibility that what he wanted to show her was something similar. Instead, she was surprised to watch him reach up towards the ceiling to pull down a ladder that would take her up into the attic. She watched as he started to climb and waited for him to signal that she should follow him. Ruby carefully analysed where to put her feet, routinely checking how near she was to the top, all the while wondering what he could possibly want to show her in his attic.

When she reached to top she allowed her head to move round so that she could take in the sights of the small room. There was barely any space available for the two of them so Daevas had an excuse to wrap himself around her. It seemed that his intentions were not solely selfless. Ruby laughed nervously as they tried to avoid the dangers of the attic, all the while trying to figure out why he had brought her here. It wasn’t until they stopped and he reached out that the reason was finally revealed. As the sight before her was revealed, her lips parted with awe and her breath caught in her throat. She had never seen anything quite like it. The city looked beautiful from his height and the moonlit buildings were all the more spectacular from this view. She had be awe-stricken the moment she had arrived in Chicago but this was certainly something else.

For a moment, she had almost forgotten that she had company. It wasn’t until he spoke and ran his fingers along her back that she had been reminded of that. Her nerve endings felt as though they were on fire again and his touch lit a new fire of passion deep within her. Her throat began to dry up and she swallowed to remedy it as she continued to look out of the window.

“This is so beautiful.” She said, her voice barely even a whisper before she turned to face him. His features in the darkness of the room looked all the more appealing as the moonlight crept upon his face. Now her breath caught in her throat for a very different sight. Ruby reached out and took his hand before stepping closer to him so that her body was only an inch from his own. She took one last look out towards the city before turning her attention back to Daevas.

There was no way of suppressing her desire to feel his lips upon her own and she decided to give in to her desires for the moment. Slowly, she leant forward until her lips were hovering above his. “I do not know what it is you are doing to me Mr Black.” She whispered before closing the distance she had left between their lips, sinking deeply into a kiss that threatened to blur her mind once more.

The sight was definitely something to see. It was something that not many had the opportunity to enjoy. He liked to only show a select few. The moonlit cast shadows across the buildings gave a soft glow that even a photographer couldn’t capture with the best lens. He knew that only with the view from the eyes could only hold the image and maybe someone could create it with the strike of the hand. It held the feeling that something that most Americans had in their heart. Freedom, and the ability to be able to do anything in this world. Right there, in front of you was the city, you could grab it and pull it into your heart and control it with everything you had. If you worked hard enough, if you knew the side streets and the ways that the city worked, you could do everything in perfect clock work timing to be able to control what happened.

This is how Daevas worked. He wanted to know every piece that made her tick. His intention was to be a part of her life in a way where if things were to end, he would forever be etched in her beautifully intricate design. His eyes traced over her profile as he glanced away from the view. The way that her lips curled to produce a smiled whisper that the view was beautiful, he simply nodded, not wanting to ruin the moment with physical words. In that moment, in the back of his head had thought of many ways to be romantic and to be even more of a charmer, but he let the view do the talking for him.

He simply stood against the edge of the window, glancing out, trying not to get his head stabbed by the nails and such that were above him. His tall frame was bound to be splintered. He let his hand trace small circles in her back as they looked out for a moment longer, letting the cool wind hit their faces, trace and caress their skin as they stood in the way of the window. They had the ability to watch the city grow…live, and carry on through the night. A completely different type of life came out at night. Those who usually didn’t do well for the world struck out at night in search of their next prey.

It wasn’t until she was moving in his arms when he found himself looking at her again. Her movements were fluid, filled with grace and poise as she had taken her hands to envelope around his, curving her body into his. The warmth of her skin was radiating from his own as she moved closer to him. His first instinct was to wrap his arms around her and pull her closer to him, but he let her do her thing. He let her come to him and show him how much she wanted him.

His eyes traced her face as she spoke. Those beautiful lips pursed so effortlessly to produce the words that drove a straight injection of pure serotonin and happiness surging through his heart. [i I do not know what you are doing to me, Mr. Black] … Oh the words that she spoke, the way she spoke them and even the soft whispered tone that she used as she connected the dots between them and planted her lips on his made his head spin. His lips moved with hers and instinctively he wrapped his arms around her, a groan escaping from his lips.

He crashed her body against his. His fervent need for the woman was growing stronger with every moment their lips pulsed together. His free hand that wasn’t around her waist slowly traced up her hip to her neck where he angled it just right, breaking the kiss to savor the taste of her skin under his tongue. Pausing for a moment, taking in a breath as he heaved in heavy breaths against her, he whispered into her neck. “Ms. Grant, you haven’t a single idea as to what effect you hold on me.”

He let his lips carry over her skin, her hands kneading into her back, curving over her rear for a moment or two before he carried his face to reach her lips again and there he devoured her lips, loving the taste that she produced for him. He let his lips speak for themselves until he was pulling away breathlessly and there he stared into her eyes, tracing his fingers through her hair, feeling the softness of the curls between his fingers.

“As much as I want to show you the effect you have on me, I want to be a gentleman…” He pressed his lips together, swallowing slightly. A part of him wanted to have her against the window sill. Other parts of him was fighting the hormones raging through him to be the gentleman and just let her lay in his arms that night…He wanted to be mischevious and lean her close to the window before taking his way with her, but he would wait for her response, let her take the ropes as she was already doing a fantastic job…

Moving his hand from her back, he let it lose and there he held onto her hand, lacing his fingers through hers as he continued to run his fingers through her hair, looking down into her beautiful eyes. In this moment he felt like a young 17 year old boy on a first date that actually meant something to him. He felt awkward and shy in the back of his mind, but his physical aged mind was all ready to take her by the hand and lead her down the stairs again and carry her to the bedroom…

He was all about taking her by the hand to show her another view…

He cleared his throat in response to hold himself to a higher standard of gentleman as he glanced to the side. “Do you want to stay with me tonight?”

Ruby was sure that she could stay here forever. She had captivated by the beautiful sights of the city glistening under the moonlight that seemed to light everything up so wonderfully. Now the man before her captivated her once more. Every time she looked towards him, she found herself lost in his eyes and it was something that she was beginning to feel a desperate need for. Her body arched against his own as he wrapped himself around her and the way he groaned seemed to light a fire within her, awakening her need to be fulfilled by him once more. Her heart raced with the desire she felt growing within her and she suddenly became very aware of every movement he made. He pulled her closer to him to that she could feel every crevasse of his toned body and the heat between them seemed to increase in a matter of seconds.

As his hands travelled up to her neck she found a moment of oxygen enter her lungs as he broke the kiss to move him lips to her skin. An aroused sigh escaped her lips as she allowed her eyes to close and a wave of provocation swept over her. His whisper travelled along her skin, causing a shudder to travel down her spine and she had to bite her lip to stop herself from letting out another moan that told him that she wanted him again.

A smile danced upon her lips as he spoke and continued to trace kisses along her skin, pulling her into him as if there was still space between their bodies that needed closing. Every touch and every movement threatened to pull her deeper into his trance. By this point, there was nothing that she could do to escape him. All she could do was allow herself to get lost in him and save the thinking until later. His lips found hers again and she allowed her tongue to dance along his, committing the taste of his to her memory as they tasted each other.

His intoxicating affect almost persuaded her to get lost in him right there. Every nerve ending of her body was crying out for his touch and she wanted him to take her as he had on a few hours ago. If it were not for their surroundings, she might have taken the lead and done just that, pulling into a sensual moment where they could both reach ecstasy but he had already pointed out that there were nails and all sorts of traps that offered potential dangers towards them. While she was sure the passion of the moment might have been worth it, she didn’t want either one of them to get hurt in the process. It was clear from his words that he hadn’t wanted to stop but his desire to be a ‘gentleman’ was something that seemed to take over his instincts completely.

At first, she just nodded towards him to acknowledge that he had spoken, not really knowing how to respond him. Her breaths were still heavy and she found her arousal was still prominent. Ruby bit down on the inside of her lip so that she could gain some control over her inhibitions. His hands in her hair was almost enough to tip her over the edge and she found herself in need of breaking eye contact so that she could focus on something other than him. It was when he posed his question to her that she found the courage to form her words. A seductively smile danced upon her lips as she ran her finger absently over the hand that had gripped her own. Her eyes tried to find his but he was not looking directly at her.

“I have no intention of going home tonight.” She said in a whisper, ready to follow him wherever he intended to take her.

Daevas was a gentleman at heart. He knew where he stood and how to be a man when it came necessary. This woman standing in front of him pulled at the very strings of his beast…his inner animal that wanted to ravage her in any way possible. It was like clicking at the fence, taunting his beast with every move, sound, look that she was giving him. Her eyes pierced through him like swords, reaching every nerve ending with a single glance at his face.

Little did she know the effect that she had on him…

Her fingers had danced along his skin and she smiled at him, oh that seductive smile hit him like a ton of bricks. Her words, her lips as she spoke taunted him even more now and she was satisfying his ears with the sounds. A smile overcame his face and he continued to hold her hand, feeling the warmth and the reaction that he was feeling in his undergarments below as he walked toward the stairs. He helped her down the stairs and closed up the attic before he wrapped his arms around her waist again, pulling her close to his lips where his own crashed against her skin. His fingers in her hair before he traveled backwards, his lips parting between kisses for air and to speak.

“I need you.” He whispered and before anything else, his fingers pulled at the zipper of her dress. He needed her there. He needed her now. His own clothing had slowly fallen to the floor and soon they were in the bedroom. It was welcoming their inner animals and satisfying the need of physical touch.

A couple of hours later, he was wrapped around the woman, his fingers tracing through her hair as his lips pressed against her forehead. His chest was still trying to regain the breath that she had taken from him the moment his eyes laid on her as she sat on top of him. He was not a man to sleep with a woman on the first encounter, but this woman racked his brain, pushed him over the edge and tested every boundary that he had ever made for himself.

“Your effect on me is out of control. I’m not sure how much my body can take.” He chuckled into her skin, his fingers escaping her hair to rub her back slightly. With the sheets tangled around their waists, he wanted to keep her warm with his arms, feeling every inch of her skin possible even after already being made one with her a couple of times.

“But I’m willing to push it as far as it needs to go to keep you satisfied.” He whispered into her skin, his lips kissing her skin slightly.

Daevas was never romantic. He was never cheesy. He was never the type of guy that would cuddle after sex, but she made him want to do all of that. To give her the world, but he knew that she wouldn’t have all of him. His company was still his prized possession and she still was on the fence about everything that was going on there, but he didn’t want to scare her off just yet.

He didn’t want to ruin the moment yet either.

The house was quiet except for the fan that was blowing on them to keep them cool. His bed was a mess and their clothes were scattered amongst the floor as they had made their way to the bedroom from the hallway losing everything to satisfy their thirsts of each other. Yet, laying her e next to the woman, he didn’t care at all.

His eyes closed for a moment until he pushed himself up on his side and he looked at her, his fingers tracing her side, making circles on her hip. “What is going through your mind right now?”
d1gn17yRuby Grant   4y ago

It didn’t take long for the man to lead her towards the stairs and out of the attic. They both knew what was about to transpire and every movement they made seemed to be in desperation to fulfil their desires. There was only a moment when there was any distance between their bodies and that we merely to close the door to the attic. When he was satisfied it was closed properly he turned towards her again, engulfing her in his arms and pulling her into his kiss. Frantic and rough, the kisses told of promises that would be fulfilled the moment he had her out of her dress for the second time that evening.

His words had more of an effect on her than the first time. The words he spoke, the way he said them encouraged a wetness that would act as proof of the effect that he had on her. She let out and aroused moan and bit her lip as his hands found the zipper of her dress. Her mind blurred as her hands started to unbutton his shirt, removing his clothing as quickly as she possibly could. With every desperate tug at the material, they etched closer to the bedroom. There was a moment when she thought they might not make it to the bedroom at all before they fell in to each other. She wanted him and it didn’t matter where.

Soon the two were completely naked. Naked of clothes. Naked in their desires and they spent several hours pleasuring and fulfilling the arising needs that had become so apparent between them. This time it was much more fluid. She had been less conscious of the fact that she was naked with a man and less concerned about her virtue being destroyed. It was already too late for that.

By the time they had finished pushing each other as close to the edge as possible, she was left breathless and desperate for oxygen. They were still wrapped in each other and he was tracing his fingers along her bare skin. If it were up to her, Ruby would have him touch her all the time. It was an intoxicating feeling and she was beginning to feel as though she might not be able to live without it. Her breath still hitched every time she felt a shudder caused by his touch. Whatever she was feeling for him and for this moment would not be ruined by thoughts about what he did for a living. She would worry about that later.

Ruby smiled when he spoke towards her, practically whispering as he did. He hadn’t come across as the type of man who would keep a woman around after having sex with her. Yet, she remained lying in his bed with his body wrapped around her own in a way that she thought only couples did. She thought that the smile on her lips would never disappear and she felt more than content in this moment. The silence that followed his words was one of comfort. The only sound coming from the fan and the breathing that escaped the two. Her heart was still racing but it was slowly beginning to slow to a steady pace.

She had been lying on her side, resting her head on her hands with her eyes closed until she felt Daevas shift next to her. Slowly, she opened her eyes and watched as his eyes found her own. She couldn’t help but smile and let out a sigh as his fingers drew patterns upon her naked skin.

“Honestly? I was just thinking about how perfect this moment is and how I am surprised that I am still here. I thought that you might have asked me to leave by now.” She moved her hand to rest on his chest and felt his heartbeat. It was steadier than her own. “You do not strike me as the kind of man to do…this.” She said, referring to the closeness between them that remained.
AWritersLove_Daevas   4y ago

Daevas looked at the female, She was more than just a woman, she was a puzzle piece within the grand scheme of his life at this point, and he was wondering what her part of the picture would be like, and he was bound and determined to figure it out. His face had traced her features as she laid within his arms. Her words were not surprising to his ears, she was a very intelligent woman no doubt. Her mind had figured him out rather quickly, at least that is what he thought, but sitting with her now, he wanted to know more about her.

“You’re right.” His eyes did not meet hers as his fingers traced along her collar bone and shoulder. He couldn’t meet her gaze as he spoke. “I am not a man who would keep a woman after a sensual encounter if it was just for sexual satisfaction. However, you intrigue me. I wish to see where this goes and what part of my life you become. If you choose however, to leave, the door is open and nothing will hold you back.” He said honestly. He had learned from a young age that stopping people and begging for attention was going to get him nowhere in life. Hew as not going to hold her back if she didn’t want to have a place in his life.

His breath was finally steady enough where he could talk without taking a deep breath. After his words were spoken though, he finally lifted his eyes to meet hers. “I wish for you to stay and there I could spoil you in memories and adventures.” He said, running his fingers down her arm to lift her hand where he brought her fingertips to his lips where he kissed each one individually. Each soft lips touch, he watched her carefully.

Little did they know, eyes were watching them, eyes were upon his residence and even though his men were on the look out, no one would catch the pair of eyes that would burst their bubble of happiness. Outside on the street, outside of the view, outside of the range that many could see with their own pair of binoculars. Her face was imprinted in the imposters mind…It would only be a matter of time before his own revenge was to be taken on the man who had beat him…who had threatened to kill him, and ruin his name. With a spit of a few sunflower seeds, the man moved into the night, disappearing from the area quickly and untraceable.

Hours later, the sun was peeking into the room. Daevas moved, his arms still around the woman and there he watched her carefully. Her face calm and peaceful, he didn’t want to disturb her. He wanted her to be comfortable. He wanted her to remain peaceful as long as she pleased. Her smiled, kissing her skin softly before removing himself from his bed and gathering his wits as he pulled himself out of the sheets, he let his naked body walk across the room and there he pulled on some trousers, walking from his room with his chest bare. Down the hall, he had a set of weights and places for strength and endurance training. His muscles rippled through sets of pushups and pull ups on the stand he had built himself.

He did curls and squats with a weighted belt, sure to keep his body firm and stout to handle any attacker that would come his way, he would run in the heat of the day to keep his endurance strong in the middle of a Chicago heat and against the strong wineds it always produced. He could go farther in the morning, but he didn’t want to leave the woman behind. He wanted to remain close to her while she was in her slumber.

After his workout, he walked back into his room with sweat dripping from his brow. He touched a towel lightly against his forehead as he walked close to his bed, unsure if she was awake or still slseeping between the sheets or if she had come and snuck around to watch him workout. He was curious to see how today would go and he wished to show her more of the city during the day, if she hadn’t already seen a lot of the city itself.

“Good morning darling.” He had said, his towel tight in his hands as he dabbed his forehead and around his neck and arms to wipe away the sweat before he would steal away to shower. After saying good morning, he grabbed a towel and pulled of his trousers and walked into the bathroom where he slipped into a hot water shower that didn’t take long to heat up .

It didn’t take him long to shower, but he was still wanting to crawl back into bed so he could be lazy with the woman all day, but then a part of him growled for food. Brunch would be fantastic.

A part of her knew that this was not something this man would normally do but she craved to know what made her different. In her mind, he could have any girl he wished and he could do whatever he wanted with them, yet he seemed to want her and she couldn’t quite understand why that was. Ruby had never considered herself to be any special and she would not consider herself to be anything more than plain if she had not be dressed up for her show. Perhaps if she were to stay the night, he would realise just how ordinary she was by the time morning came.

Even though her eyes were tracing the contours of his face, he avoided her gaze as he admitted what she already knew to be true. Even though she had no idea whether she was emotionally ready to figure out where she might fit in his life she was not about to leave in the middle of the night. She was comfortable in his arms and for tonight, Ruby had no intention of thinking about what life Daevas led. She had already given herself to him so she might as well allow the night to unfold however it may. As he kissed each of her fingers and wished for her to stay she nodded. “I will not leave tonight. I cannot promise you that I know how I feel about all of this but I do not wish to think about any of this tonight.”

Ruby lowered her head to his chest and breathed steadily until sleep claimed her. While they had not fallen asleep straight away, the fatigue of their love making had made it impossible for her to stay awake much longer. It was not until the next morning when she felt a light kiss press against her skin that she began to stir, but it was not enough to wake her up entirely. She simply moved her body into a comfortable position and allowed herself to continue to sleep, especially since she did not have an awareness of where she was right now.

She did not sleep for much longer but when she woke up, she was alone as she had expected. It took her a moment to realise that she was not in her own bedroom and that her naked body was covered in sheets that she could not afford herself. Ruby brought her hand up to her eyes and allowed herself a minute to adjust to her surroundings and when she began to sit up, she remembered the night before just as Daevas walked back into the room. Ruby allowed her eyes to drink in his form before smiling towards him and wishing him a good morning much like he had. She only pulled her eyes away when he began to undress entirely. It seemed that her shyness returned now that the intoxication of his seduction had worn off. When he took himself off for a shower she pulled the bed sheets around her so that she did not expose herself to him and wondered what they were going to do with the day.

All she had with her was her dress from the night before and it was not exactly appropriate for the daylight of Chicago. Now she was beginning to regret her decision to go home with him, especially since it would be so obvious to observers that she had gone home with someone she had only just met and that was not exactly something women usually did. “I think it’s best if I go home this morning. I need to shower and change into something that doesn’t tell everyone my profession.” She laugh lightly, still slightly fatigued from the night before. “Would you mind taking me home? I-I do not exactly know where I am.”
AWritersLove_Daevas   4y ago

Dabbing the fabric across his forehead, he heard her question and he was taken a little aback. He knew, clearly, that he was going to have to have her return to her place to get new clothes for the day, though he was still thinking that she would stay and be lazy with him all day, but that was only a dream. Reality had already set in and there was a look like a deer lost in headlights in her eyes. She was frightened it seemed to be there, and he was fighting the urge to be crushed by her look.

Facing the immediate fact that she wanted to go home now and that she didn’t know where she was, he knew that he would have to have someone take her home. Pressing his lips together and facing the music that she was no longer singing, he lifted his eyes to hers and nodded, squeezing the towel before he set it down briefly. A smile slipped at the corner of his mouth as he nodded. “I can have that arranged. I have forgotten my manners, I apologize.” He said, concerned that she was thinking how society would look at her now that it was morning and she was still wearing last night’s makeup and wardrobe.

Yet she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen in his life.

He guided her through the hallways once she had gathered her things and he led her to the gathering area that he had dedicated to his security guards while he was at home. One of them lifted their head and glanced at Daevas for direction. He nodded once and added curtly. “Take her wherever she needs to go. She can come back if she wishes, but if she tells you to leave just come back.” He wanted to make sure that she had a way out. He didn’t like to corner anyone that he was trying not to make feel uncomfortable.

The men nodded once and only 2 stood to walk her out to the car that was pulled up to the car. He motioned them to go warm it up on this chill Chicago morning, and he touched her shoulders gently. “I have to get some work done while I’m able. I’ll see you for dinner later tonight.” He said softly, kissing the top of her forehead.

His usual encounters did not include dinner the next day after their escapade. His men were a little confused as they looked at him while they spoke to her. Their engagement was something they were not used to seeing their boss engage in. With a simple look up, their gazes scattered to different areas of the room. He smiled, shoving a hand in his pocket as he walked her out to the car that had been warmed up for her to go home in. “If they give you any trouble, let me know.” He smiled at the two men who just shook their heads and stepped into the driver and passenger seats, waiting to take the woman home.

He wished to kiss her more, but he was unsure how she was feeling at this point if she would allow him.

It wasn’t until the pair of eyes that had watched them from the shadows in the night reappeared from around the corner, not too far from the residence. The shade continued to move and he moved in a little closer, zooming in with his binoculars seeing that it was just the woman getting into the car…Perhaps this was going to be a little too easy. The men sitting in the front seat from what the shadow could already tell was discussing where they were going to go after dropping the woman off or how the game was the night before.

The shade waited until the car was moving away from the residence before he moved… moved in the direction of following them to the woman’s home.

Daevas let out a very long and steady exhale as he stood there in the brisk morning that was in the city of Chicago. There were souls walking around on the sidewalk already at this early hour of the morning. The sun was peeking through the clouds and the trees were trying to hold their leaves from the bastard wind, but some still failed to hold strong. He glanced around and shoved his hands in his pockets and walked inside, and there he would retire to his study, sending some of his men home to get some rest while he finished work and wasn’t in need of extra guard.

A few hours later, Daevas was tied up in a phone call about the account that he had thought he had settled the night before with the woman…His graciousness was met with blood. He ran his fingers through his hair and shook his head as he pressed the phone to the side of his face. “What do you mean, he’s dead?” He asked. Jack on the other side of the phone, sighed heavily. “We found him in an alley. Apparently the deal that we had made with the gentleman was taken in a different context. He shot the man in cold blood and ran off. There is suspect that there is someone who had paid him off to do this. My connections tell me that he had such good recommendations until now”

Daevas shook his head and turned around for the 50th time and looked at the window, hoping to see the car would be leaving to go and pick the woman up, but he hadn’t been able to free up the line in case that she was trying to get a hold of him. He squeezed his temples slightly and groaned. “Well then, we must find him. I need what he has to go through with this deal. It is going to break if I have my integrity shot down.” Jack made a nervous sound. “Yes sir. We will see what we can do.”

Setting it on the hook a little roughly, he walked over to his desk and let his head fall as he leaned over the large stack of papers lining out what all the deal entailed and what he was going to be able to do once they all agreed on the terms. So much was riding on this deal, on this agreement for trade business as well locations to open just for their manufacturing. They were riding the line of the technological reboot of this century and he wanted to be on the forefront of it. He had worked too damn hard to stop now.

Peeking around the corner, the woman was watched…the woman was scanned and practically drawn in the shade’s head. She would make an easy target just with a single shot. He hung around the edges of the residence, sure to not make a loud enough move that would disturb the neighbors. Some friends of the shades lived close enough for an alibi if they needed one. Moving their eyes over the residence, he found weak spots easily and laid it all out in his head, he moved with the building until he was able to watch the woman from the outside in a no convincing serial killer way…

Ruby was concerned with upsetting Daevas with her request to return home but it was unlikely that the two of them could have enjoyed the rest of their day while she was still dressed in the clothes she had worn the night before. She was also still feeling rather cautious about perusing something with him. Last night she had been intoxicated by him and now that he was out of her system, her brain was working again and she felt the need to take some time to think about this. That did not mean that she regret the time they had spent together, she merely needed space and an opportunity to think without Daevas getting under her skin in the way that he did.

“There is no need to apologise. I just…need to get home.” Her hands held on tightly to the sheets that covered her and she looked over to her clothes and maneuvered skilfully so that she could pick up her dress and when she had it in her hands, she pulled it over her head and slid out of the bed, stepping towards Daevas after she gather whatever she needed from the room. He guided her through the hallway towards the men that worked for him. It was still strange for her to spend her time with someone who seemed to have such power and influence. Even now she avoided their eyes as he instructed his men to take her home. Two of them moved out towards the car, giving Daevas some time to wish her well for the rest of the day. His words did not seem to pose a question but simply asserted the fact that he had intended to see her again that night. She nodded gently as he pressed his lips to her forehead and she felt that urge to kiss him start to build up again. This time she had more self-control and was able to stop herself from doing so.

As he led her to the car, she continued to avoid the gaze of those around them and when they arrived at the car she nodded and smiled before saying goodbye to him. Ruby swallowed and climbed into the back seat of the car and soon enough it was pulling away from him and towards her home. She looked back towards him as the car gained more distance and she let out a sigh before bringing her eyes back to the front of the car. His men were respectful and did not ask her any questions or even try to converse with her in any way and she was grateful that she did not have to figure out what to say to them.

By the time she arrived at her home she was more than ready to bathe away their evening of love-making and she did not hesitate to disappear into her house. A home that was significantly smaller than the one she had spent her evening in and a home that she herself did not own. Perhaps Daevas would have a different opinion of her if he had the opportunity to see where she lived and observed the kind of life that she led in comparison to him. A man with money could quite literally do whatever he pleased and live a life that was fit for a king. Ruby did not know a life of wealth, instead she had spent most of her life living in poverty. Not that one would know if they were to take in the appearance she had given herself now that she had started to perform.

She peeled off her dress and went about her normal morning routine and found herself some more suitable clothes for her daily activities. While she would have to change later for their dinner, she had to pull together some ideas for her next show so she spent some of her time sitting at her dining table and making notes about songs that might be appropriate for her upcoming shows and even spent some time signing to herself as she normal did. Ruby barely even noticed it now. Not once did she notice a figure lurking outside of her home, but she might have if she had not been so wrapped up in her work.

Several hours had passed and she realised that it was about time she got herself prepared for her dinner and as she changed and applied her make-up she couldn’t help but feel a familiar wave of nerves overcome her and she found herself checking her appearance several times before she was satisfied enough to stop reapplying make up of changing her clothes. It was the sound of a car pulling up that finally pulled her out of herself and towards the door. She had no more time to mither and even now as she walked to the car, the door of which had been held open for her, the figure still lingered, taking in her appearance and making a mental note of anything that might be important. It was not long before the car was pulling up in front of Daevas’ home but she was instructed to stay in the car. He would come out to her and they would be on their way soon enough.

Daevas was a man in confidence, one that showed no insecurities. He walked with pride and he made sure that he was in charge of the room that he stood in. With years and years of experience, he was not going to let anyone come before him without his notice. He was not a man just in power, he was one with wealth and put money where his mouth was. Pressing his lips together now as he stood in the middle of his corporate office. His power lingered there, he knew that some people feared him and he knew by the way that their eyes met his frantically that some were scared to know what his expectations were of them.

“Read me the numbers.”

As he dove into the numbers of the company, he was in the middle of the meeting when his landline was beginning to ring. He picked it up and walked to the corner of the room, overlooking the city. “Yes.”

“I have your princess.”

And the line went dead.

~~

The figure that had paid attention to her as she stepped into the familiar car, Marx walked around the other edge of the car. There he slipped on his sunglasses and pulled himself into the driver’s seat. Another figure climbed into the front seat and the privacy curtain between the driver and the passengers in the back was drawn. There they whispered the beginning marks of their plan.

It was instructed of hers that she was not to get out of the car when they supposedly pulled up to Daevas’s. It was at his residence that some of the men that had looked to protect her now walked with another figure. Inside his own reachings, the men that he had looked over and paid for were now turned against him and he was within the house without knowing anything.

The man slipped into the car beside her, and before the woman could say anything, the car was pulling away. “The call was already made by the time they made the way down the street.

~~

Daevas stormed downstairs to find his maid tied to the chair in the closet. Her mouth was duct taped, her eyes were covered, and she was without any words. She had been blind folded before she was left there alone in the dark. He had only found her when she made desperate pleas through the duct tape.

“What the hell happened?”

“I don’t know sir! I was taken a back and blinded before I could do anything. They-they tied me up and threw me in here before I could even scream.” She said and he held her closely to settle her nerves. “Come on, let’s get the car—”

She shook her head. “Your men are in on it, sir. They took the car.”

“Not both of them.” He said, knowing exactly how to drive and he always kept a second car in case something were to happen to his first. The Ford Duesenberg stood there in the garage under a sheet. The brilliance of the blue coloring made it completely stand out from the typical black vehicles he drove. It was an impulsive drive, but he did it on a whim one day. He was grateful for his opportunity to do so now that he needed it.

Walking with her to the garage, they made their way through the bushes and soon he was pulling off the covers and together they slipped into the vehicle. Pulling out fiercely out of the garage, he drove her to her place as well as he could remember. Her husband was waiting outside when he saw the two pull up. He ran out to the vehicle. “Mister Black, what has happened?” As he saw the tears on his wife’s face he was about to grow angry with the white male.

Daevas shook his head. “I am ensuring she made it home safely. Since she is not apparently safe in mine anymore. Get your kids and get out of town right now. I don’t know how safe you are. “

The male surrounded his arms around his wife and walked with her inside without a single glance backwards and there he was driving a lone down the streets of Chicago. Racing through the crowds, and the traffic, he had no clue as to where they were. He drove to the office, knowing exactly where he would find out.

He knew where Marx lived. He knew where a lot of his security guard lived. Driving up to the house, he found it empty and there he was walking inside hoping to find his wife or kids, but they were gone. He knew that Daevas would come to his house looking for them.

~~

The figure sat next to the female. “Daevas is very particular with the company he keeps, but this time he won’t be able to figure out where his most precious gem is until he finally surrenders to the bigger dog of the competition.” The man said to the woman.

They were pulling up to the warehouse completely on the otherside of town, completely under the radar. Daevas held many different areas that he owned, and the towncar with the familiar security faces, people didn’t even look at them twice. The plan was moving flawlessly.

“Soon…you will be made a statement.” He said.

Ruby had felt uneasy the entire journey here. She had put it down to the fact that she was nervous about seeing Daevas again. He had done quite a number on her and she wasn’t sure that she would be able to tell him that it would be best for the two to keep a distance for the time being, especially since she was unsure of her feelings towards his lifestyle and business. She did not understand that her unease was caused by the whispering in the front of the car. She just passed it off as though they were talking about their work and they had to keep the noise down in case she overheard private matters, but she had not realised that they were talking of a plan that would mean her meal with Daevas would not be happening this evening.

She looked down at the attire she had chosen and wondered if she had chosen something appropriate for their evening, especially since she knew that Daevas came from money and that was something she didn’t have. Fancy dresses and the glamourous jewellery was not amongst her possessions and that was just another reason that she felt that she might have been a little out of place in his company. Their lifestyles were completely different, and it was clear to her that she did not belong here. Ruby let out a sigh and tried to distract her thoughts away from the differences in their existences.

Ruby looked out of the window and observed Daevas’ men while the engine of the car humming quietly. She had been so distracted by the figures walking past the car that she had barely noticed that a figure had slipped into the car next to her. She had not even noticed Daevas coming out of the house, but she plastered a smile on her face so that she could show him something other than the nerves that had surfaced within her but as she turned to face him, her smile dropped in an instant and the car had started to make a move again. The man beside her was not Daevas and it became apparent that her dinner with him was no longer part of the plan.

Her nerves were now replaced with fear and she began to piece together why she had felt so uneasy the moment that she had stepped into the car. The driver and the figure next to him had kept their conversation quiet because they had clearly been going over their plans with regards to Ruby. She looked the figure over trying to see if she could place him somewhere, but she did not recognise him, she didn’t know that he had been following her since the moment she had left Daevas’ house. Her heart started to race as he spoke and she kept her eyes on him as he spoke, simply shaking her head. Her hands moved to the seatbelt and went to unclip herself in hopes that she could find a way out of the car but the moment she moved her hand the figure grabbed hold of her wrist with such force that it caused her to cry out in pain.

Ruby locked eyes with him as the tears began to sting at the corner of her eyes and her lips parted to speak. “You are mistaken. I am nothing to him. I don’t know what kind of statement you plan to make out of me, but I can assure you it won’t work. He barely even knows me. Why would he care about a jazz singer he only just met?” She was expecting him to say something but instead he simply laughed as though she had no real clue what she was talking about and soon enough the car was pulling up to their destination and he was pulling her out of the car with a similar force. Her arm was already bruising and she was sure they wouldn’t be the only bruises inflicted upon her before the night was over.

Ruby couldn’t quite understand why the man laughed when she told him that he had made a mistake; that she meant nothing to the man she had spent the night with. She wished that she had the nerve to tell them that was all there was to it but they knew where her destination was supposed to be. If she was to dine with the man, sex was not all their night together had been but it was not as though she had any idea where things might have gone this evening. All that was clear now, was that plans had changed and she began to wonder if she would make it through the night. This was the first time she found herself wishing that she had listened to her parents and stayed home to find a husband and become an obedient wife like her mother. Chicago probably wasn’t the best idea in hindsight.

Soon enough the car had come to a stop and she was being pulled out of it with a force that would surely leave a bruise where his arm had been. Of course that would be the least of her worries when she found out what was in store for her. She looked around as he pulled her into a building and she looked to see if any of the faces had been familiar from the night before. She silently cursed herself for being too wrapped up in Daevas to take note of his men. None of them spoke and word towards her but surrounded her as if she might try and run. It wasn’t until she heard the sound of footsteps coming towards her that she looked up. The woman before her was shrouded in mystery and she could feel that she was dangerous. The way she spoke her name sent a shiver up her spine and her heart beat to quicken out of fear of what this woman might be capable of.

She shook her head slightly as she claimed that Ruby was standing in the way of her control over the city. She had spent one night with this man and now she was a tool in a game between the two, trying to claim power over the city. Power for themselves. Ruby was just a jazz singer a few hours ago and now her importance seemed to have been elevated by others she did not know. Before she could say or do anything her body was being forced down into a chair when the woman neared her. She could see the sudden anger in her eyes and from the way she spoke she couldn’t help but wonder if this woman had been a lover of Daevas’ in the past. The thought was only emphasised by the way she spoke about him in a way far more intimate than a woman should speak about a man.

Ruby felt her fingers run through her hair and she grimaced slightly, knowing that she couldn’t see her face from the position she was stood in, tying her hands behind her back. She had no strength to fight her off and even if she did, there were at least a dozen men surrounding them. She would be dead in an instant. At least now the woman gave some indication as to why she was here. Whether she had Daevas in the past or whether it was just a desire hardly seemed to matter now. All that mattered was that she had made the mistake of getting involved with him, even if it was for one night.

Ruby’s fear only increased when she spoke over the phone about bringing in a package. It could have been anything but the last thing she expected to see was a range of recording equipment. Her brows knotted in confusion as she allowed her eyes to travel over to the case full of objects that were evidently used to torture a person. It was then that things started to make sense and her breathing was beyond control as the woman picked up a knife and allowed the light to reflect off it. She shook her head and tears began to form in the corner of her eyes.

“Please…” That was all she managed to get out before she saw the smirks of those surrounding her. Soon she would know [I real] pain and fear.

Although she was aware that there would have been dangers associated with a woman moving to the city alone, she had never expected that she be caught in this kind of danger. All it took was for her to spend the night with one man and it seemed that her world had been turned upside down. At first, she just thought that she had become a woman of sin by simply giving herself to a man and that was all that had changed but it was so apparent that there were other things at play here; other players in a game she had not known that she was a part of. Her plea did not matter to the woman before her and deep-down Ruby knew that it wouldn’t have made a difference. For her to have her here and tied up suggested that she did not have a conscience in the first place.

Ruby’s spine tensed up as she tried to move her head back as the woman neared her but no matter what she did, there would be no change to her fate. For all she knew Daevas had no idea where she was or even cared enough to come looking for her. It wasn’t until that blade came into contact with her neck that she gained control over the flinch. If she made one wrong move she could cut her own throat by trying to avoid the blade. She even tried to steady her breathing as she took note that the blunt side of the blade was being used at that moment, but she had no doubt that the woman could turn it in an instant.

Her eyes were trained on the woman’s as she spoke and pressed the blade into her throat. Now she knew she couldn’t move or even talk. The woman spoke as if she knew everything about Ruby, but she knew nothing. She wasn’t wrapped around anyone’s finger. She had given herself to Daevas and she was going to dine with him but that was all there was to it. Perhaps given a few weeks of the same routine she might have been but she had been seduced, that didn’t mean she was completely wrapped around his finger. She allowed herself a moment to breath as she released the metal from her neck.

“I have nothing to do with Black Industries and I think that you have miscalculated how important I am. He won’t come for me, he’s not that stupid. He wouldn’t risk everything for some jazz singer.” She said, knowing that the strength she feigned within her voice would not have fooled anyone. As if to respond without words, the woman clicked her fingers, and someone brought forward the tray of knives. Her eyes widened as she saw the light reflecting from the metal as she picked up a bigger knife and within a matter of seconds her previous words had been disproved as the woman confirmed that Daevas had made his way here.

A scream ripped through her as the woman pulled the knife across her collar bone. The wound was hot and seemed to sting more than any pain she could remember in her life. She had already been sweating but now it was cold and linked to the pain that was radiating from her new wound. A part of her knew this wouldn’t be the end of it, she knew that there was more pain to come, perhaps more so now that Daevas had arrived on the scene. Although, there was no way of knowing if she would have been safer if he stayed away. The woman before her seemed to have a very clear agenda and might have got what she wanted anyway.

She remained unable to do anything but allow hear tears to fall as she processed the pain.

[center [font “Times” [size12 The sun had begun to set. The oranges, reds, and purples were beginning to take over the sky. Shadows stretched, and the wind howled through the empty storage buildings. Wood was clattering near the docks, and the boats were beginning to line up at the docks for the night. The city was beginning to gather up for festive activities. Night time in Chicago was a time for celebration of life, of making it through the day, through the week, and through the wrecks that we called life.]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 Daevas was trying to move as fast as he could without being noticed. He was unsure if he was actually going to be able to make it inside without someone trying to stop him. It was without a doubt very strange on what was happening. As he made his way through the different obstacles that were placed around the area, he could have sworn that some of the ‘protectors’ were able to look at him, but they turned their head and headed inside....]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 Jayne’s eyes traced the female. Her youth was bright, her skin was supple, her hair shiny and full of life, and here Jayne was holding on to the very little life that she had. She had pushed herself to the limit with her business issues, and now it was starting to show. Late nights, lack of sleep and energy was hitting her hard. She was not old by any means, but she was not a young spring chicken either. Pursing her lips, hearing the squeal from the female as the blade sliced through the delicate skin layers. The blood dribbled, staining the fabric of the female’s attire. She waited. A signal was taken and the men were beginning to gather on the inside of the building.]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 The showdown was about to begin. Superman versus Poison Ivy. A mix of the comics, but Jayne wasn’t about to correct her thoughts. It felt nice and fit.]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 Daevas stopped, his brow furrowing. This was weird. He couldn’t see into the building. He couldn’t tell what exactly was going on. The men had disappeared, and there was a screeching sound from inside the building. He knew it was Ruby’s. It hurt him to stand there, still lost in the decision of what to do, but he had to make an entrance. He had to make it to where he would be able to get her out. Yet, he was without a thought as to how he would be able to push forward without making it too obvious….]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 Until speakers began to play outside the building…]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 Jayne held the microphone to her lips now, her fingers still holding onto the blade, covered in Ruby’s blood.]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 [u The longer you wait sunshine, the more she will endure.] The words were spoken, the intent was clear. Ruby was going to die if something wasn’t done and Daevas was without a way out now. ]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 They knew he was there.]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 He dropped his coat where he was and he continued his way toward the building where the doors slowly opened. [b Jayne.] He said. His eyes casting up on the woman who was standing next to Ruby in the chair. Her perfect skin marred by the female that couldn’t control her thirst for the luxuries in life.]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 [u Daevas Black. We meet again.]]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 He nodded, stepping forward, his eyes on Ruby. [b Why a pond such as she?] He asked. Jayne shook her head, holding the bloody blade in the air and pointing at him. ]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 [u You don’t get to ask the questions. I have 10 guys with guns pointed at your head right now. Better shut up and hear what I have to say…] When he didn’t even blink in her direction, her palms began to get clammy. [u Anyways… Daevas, I am in need of your signature of approval to move forward in this industrial revoultion. The push for electronics, for mobilized engines, for more recyclable energy is here. You have connections all over the world. Why are you hiding it?]]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 [b You. Right now. People like you are why I haven’t decided to move forward here.] He lifted a brow. Untouched by her desire to push against him. [b Naive people like you are the reason why I haven’t even decided to come this far. Pulling innocent people into the cross fire to hurt me? Darling, you must know me better than that…]]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 Jayne faltered. [u She was with you---] Daevas shook his head and stepped closer. The guns were still pointed, but Jayne didn’t move. [b Darling, why do you try and break my arm like this? I’m made of steel my dear.] His eyes glanced toward the men. ]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 The guns began to load as the men were beginning to cock their guns until they were hot and ready to explode when Daevas looked up, letting each one of their gazes reach his own. [b I can see your loyalty is strong Jayne, so what is it that you want besides my signature…]]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 [u I want your di---] Doors began to fall, windows were breaking, and the wind came rushing in with the police force that were entering the scene. A rush of people, all in their protective gear to stand beside them on the other side. A march of 25 against her 10 looked at each other, confused as to what was going on. It wasn’t long until the men were overwhelmed and Jayne was ripped from her weapon and arrested. [b You will get nothing.]]]]
[center [font “Times” [size12 Daevas looked at Ruby, his eyes pleading as he came to her and unlocked her tethers and took the jacket from the man who came up behind them. [b A man never leaves his coat in the middle of the intersection.] Chief of police stood there, a smirk on his face. [i We have been trying to catch her for weeks now.] ]]]

[center [font “Times” [size12 [b You’re welcome chief. I’m going to take Ms. Ruby home. I do appreciate the help.] The chief nodded before asking to see if she wanted paramedic help. Daevas shook his head. [b I’ll nurse her, it’ll be fine.] He said and hoped to have wrapped his arm around her hsoulders and helped her navigate back to the car…]]]
