It was cold. The room felt empty, the window left open and the cold fall breeze crept into the small space the young boy called his home. He was lying in bed, his door slightly open and he could see a faint glow of light at the end of the hall. That was definitely his mother. She was probably working hard again because she had two jobs. She was a waitress by day and at night she stayed on her laptop, selling these things in bags. Sylus had no idea where she got them from or what they were, but sometimes he'd see her eating it or putting it up her nose. He didnt understand why she had to work so much, but mommy would always tell him, [i You dont need anyone Sylus. You can always do everything yourself. People are only there to ruin you]
That was the philosophy he's went by ever since until the years past and things grew worse. His mother had divorced his dad when he was five and as a result, she hired a lawyer to help her out. She wanted to claim what was rightfully hers, but Sylus' father refused to give him or their child anything. The man took it all away. Their house was gone, the cars were gone, all that remained were mom's hard work and an old apartment building they stayed in now, just trying to get by. He could tell from his mother's face that life was hard. Their lawyer had betrayed them and ended up taking all of his mother's savings without trying to stop his father at all. Greed took him over and they found out later, he was working for her ex's brother. The bastards took it all from them, and took it all from his mother.
Over the course of the next few months, Sylus noticed his mother's change in attitude and behavior. She began ignoring him, searching up ways online to make more money, working her two jobs and just having no time for him at all. She called him a disgusting piece of filth that was just left here to taunt and remind her of what happened. Apparently he looked similar to his father and people always told his mother that. That must have irritated her to get to the point where she gave up on him the night of his birthday.
It was seven at night, Sylus had just woke up from a nap, rubbing his tired eyes as he walked into the kitchen like he always did, looking for something to eat. [b [#7401DF "Mama? It's my birthday. Can we eat cake?"]] he pulled himself onto one of the chairs and sat at the table, seeing his mother looking stressed out, her hands moving through her messy hair as she looked over at him. [+red "Oh your birthday. I have a gift for you Sylus. Im going to take you somewhere fun okay? But we've got to go now or we'll be late"] she stood up and held his hand as she led him towards her car.
They soon drove and arrived just outside of a fenced in gate, entering and then being led by two guards into the recruiting area. Sylus was really excited to see where she was talking her. When he stepped out to see other kids around him, standing in a line, he blinked curiously. [+red "We're going to line up and get your present okay?"] she told him, waiting until it was his turn. The guards took Sylus in past the secondary gates and then they looked at him physically. They checked his eyes, nose, mouth, heart rate, blood pressure, and then his pulse. He was then stamped on the arm with a number. [i 17] he wondered what that meant?
He walked inside, looking back at the window, seeing one of the guards placing a numerous amount of bills into her hands. His mother had a smile on her lips and then she looked at the window, seeing Sylus as she waved and then headed out the door. Was she supposed to leave? Wasnt she going to show him the surprise? Sylus stayed at the glass until someone pulled him back into the line. They inched their way forward deeper into the facility as a man injected something into their arms. Sylus cried in pain, feeling the syringe stab him so suddenly. He then began running around the room until he eventually passed out onto the ground suddenly.
THe guards came in and placed him onto the stretcher and then they hurried to take him into another room, leaving him and locking the doors so they could monitor the new recruit. Sylus was passed out in the venter of the room when a girl came in. He was knocked out for a while until he felt her prodding his arm. Sylus shot awake and looked around the room quickly, his eyes adjusting to the sight of her in front of him. His eyes focused on a little girl. She looked like someone around his age.
Sylus opened his pale eyes and just looked up at her curiously. He didnt remember what happened, or why he was in that room. He tried shifting around in bed, but he couldnt. His body wouldnt react when he wanted it to, wondering what the hell was wrong with him. When he opened his mouth to speak, it came out audible and he could at least understand what he's saying [b [#7401DF "Im Sylus"]] he gulped, following her voice as he looked over at the lollipop beside his bed. [b [#7401DF "Thanks"]] he was able to mumble softly, but that was all he could say when he saw some guards coming into the room with a tall man with brown hair.
Sylus just tried to move his arm, managing to hide the lollipop beneath his arm until he could get away. He didnt know where he was, what surprise his mother had, or who this girl was? He felt afraid being all alone and he didnt know why his body just couldnt move.
Sylus peeked down at Aralyn and then he tried to lift a smile so that she'd take it as a thanks. He was then taken away from her room and led into a different room further down the hall. WHen he entered inside, they strapped down his arms and legs to the stretcher and then he saw a male working there. On the table besides his desks were different sized syringe and bottles. The male had thick glasses, a bowl cut and was tall and thin. He faced Sylus and taped his mouth shut. [+red "We're going to see if you're capable to join the others little guy. Get ready. We're going to be injecting a few things, so just relax and try to keep still"] he told Sylus as the boy stared at him confused.
[+blue "Is this my surprise mommy wanted me to have?"] he wondered, closing his eyes as he thought about what it could be. He didnt know where he was, what he was doing here, or what all of those needles were for, but he was just waiting for his mom's gift for his birthday. Little did he knew, he had already been sold to a a human experimental institution.
