Yunho is assigned one last mission before retiring for good. He has to determine if Dongmyeong, who had recently lost his twin brother Xion, was mentally fit continue hunting vampires. Dongmyeong is given the same mission, to watch over Yunho, to see if Yunho is mentally fit to continue hunting werewolves. How will they both deal with this? Let's find out.

[center ~]

Hai~! Author-nim here with another spinoff! Yes, this is a spinoff to my main wolfau series! I will get around to working on the main series asap but for now I need to work on Yunho's story before the idea disappears.

You can check out the prequel to this story [https://www.asianfanfics.com/story/view/1411331 here], and find out what happened with Dongmyeong to lose his twin. We will see characters from the main series in here, but there are some differences between this series and the main one, thus why it's a spinoff.

Also be warned, there [i will] be [i two] giant plot twists that you'd probably never see coming unless you look very closely at how Yunho and Dongmyeong are portrayed when people talk about San and Xion respectively. Good luck figuring those two out!

Also, I know that Yunho and San aren't siblings. However they are in this series and the main series to make things interesting. It also makes Yunho's past more interesting because there is a reason behind Yunho's stoic expression and his icy personality.

Now onto the characters~!

[center Characters:]

Yunho: A pure blooded werewolf with a dark past. He and his twin San weren't meant to live, and paid the price for it when their home pack kicked them out, leaving them to vampires. He and his brother San were rescued by Hongjoong and has been with him since, becoming a werewolf hunter under Wontak's faction. His wolf form is a large white wolf with a nasty scar across his stomach, and another one across his lower back seen in his wolf and human forms.

Dongmyeong: A pure blooded werewolf who is still grieving over the loss of his younger twin Xion. He was a werewolf hunter for many years before becoming a vampire hunter after finding his twin. After the death of his brother he fell into grief, lashing out at everyone at the mere mention of Xion's name. He is trying to move on, though it is hard for him. He is a vampire hunter, under his own faction. His wolf form is a large black wolf with a large scar going down his back and a claw mark on his face going down his left cheek seen in his wolf and human forms.

San: A vampire who is Yunho's twin brother. He was a pure blooded werewolf, but after getting abandoned by his home pack he was left to the vampires with his brother and bitten. He miraculously survived the change, at the cost of his wolf. He hates it, but deals with it for his brother's sake. He hunts animals, and comes to visit his brother when he's in the area. He's a part of Yeosang's coven, though due to his introverted nature and natural distrust for other vampires after what happened, is rarely with them, only passing on information when they run into each other. He avoids everyone when he can, and only visits his brother when Yunho is by himself somewhere.

I hope you enjoy the story~!

Thanks to [https://www.asianfanfics.com/story/view/1448586/open-l-art-de-mandeuk-graphic-workshop these] guys for the awesome poster :D

[center Chapter 16]

Things were going smoothly for Yunho and Dongju, the both of them coming to terms over their own grief for their family members. Hwanwoong was being the supportive friend and mate the entire time, making sure that they were both doing okay.

When Wontak came to visit to see how Yunho and Dongju were doing he could see that things were getting better between them, and declared a mission success.

"I told you it'd work out," said Wontak as he sat with Yunho and Dongju outside in their usual spots. "I am glad it worked out to be honest," said Yunho as he scratched the back of his head. "If it didn't well," he said, shaking his head. "Yeah, that wouldn't've ended well," said Wontak.

"I'm sure you're wanting to head home soon," said Wontak. "Not yet," said Yunho. "I need to go hunting for a souvenir," he said. "A shot glass and a plushie?" Asked Dongju as he raised an eyebrow. "Well..." Yunho said as he chuckled lightly, rubbing the back of his neck. Wontak laughs, shaking his head.

"How are the others doing?" Asked Yunho. "Fine," said Wontak. "Hyeongjun is almost well enough to do missions and Jun is pretty much ready to take your spot," he said. "I heard," said Yunho. "Chan's been talking about it in the chats to let me know what's going on with his brother," he said. "Since we'll be seeing more of him apparently," he added. "Ah," said Dongju.

"Did Dongmyeong ever talk about him?" Asked Wontak. "Jun? No," said Dongju. "He never talked about his life as a werewolf hunter," he said. "I have an idea of who Jun is though," he said. "I found a notebook he had, which is why I was able to take on his identity so quickly, I studied that notebook for so long," he said. "I see," said Wontak.

[center ~]

A deep sigh left Yunho as he looked at the wolf plushie sitting on his bed. He knew letting go of this one would mean he truly moved on but it was something he didn't want. He considered it, deciding on finding a new plushie to keep with him at all times. He decided to leave the plushie buying to Dongju, and would get a shot glass when he went shopping next.

"What's wrong?" Asked Hwanwoong as he walked into the room. "I'm thinking of leaving this plushie here," said Yunho. "Really?" Asked Hwanwoong. Yunho nodded. "If I leave it here, it means I moved on completely," he said. "But you don't want to," said Hwanwoong. "Part of me doesn't," said Yunho.

"You should," said Hwanwoong. "Leave something here anyway," he added. "You may not realize it but you've really helped Dongju [i a lot] these passed few months," he said. "Leave a memento," he said. "Dongju's going to find the perfect plushie for you," he said. "Of course," Yunho said, shaking his head in amusement before turning to Hwanwoong. Hwanwoong looked amused as he made eye contact with Yunho.

"Thanks," said Yunho as he smiled softly. "For what?" Asked Hwanwoong as he tilted his head to the side in question. "For being there," said Yunho. Hwanwoong shrugged it off. "It's fine," he said. "You're a friend, and fellow hunter," he said. "I wanted to help," he said. Yunho nodded, and walked passed Hwanwoong and out of the room. Hwanwoong took one last look at the wolf plushie sitting on the bed before turning and walking out of the room.

[center ~]

Dongju let out a deep breath as he flipped through his brother's journal again. He looked at the most recent posts made by him and noticed something new. When he had become himself again he started addressing his brother in the more recent entries, as if writing a letter to him.

Dongju sat down and started writing the next entry, addressing it to Dongmyeong before writing about what had been happening since the last entry.

"What are you writing?" Asked Hwanwoong as he leaned over Dongju's shoulder. "Just telling Dongmyeong of what's been happening," said Dongju as he looked up from the notebook.

"It's been a while since the last letter huh?" Asked Hwanwoong. Dongju nodded. "I'll leave you to it then," said Hwanwoong. "Don't forget to go shopping for Yunho's plushie," he said.

"When is he leaving again?" Asked Dongju. "Within another month or so I think, Yedam needs to come over to confirm his retirement," said Hwanwoong. "Ah," said Dongju.

[center ~]

Yunho picked up the shot glass that Yeosang had gotten him, packing it safely in his suitcase before grabbing the most recent one that he had gotten, looking at it before packing it beside the other one.

"I almost don't want to leave," Yunho said, turning to fold and pack his clothes. "You don't have to you know," said Dongju as he walked into the room. "I know but I can't leave them behind," said Yunho. "I owe them that much," he said.

"And plus," said Yunho as he paused in packing his clothes. "I still have a few things to do before I can leave Kris's pack," he said. "If I ever do anyway," he added. "If you do leave, you're welcome here," said Dongju. "Well, if Xiao allows it anyway," he added. Yunho nodded, going back to folding and packing up his clothes.

[center ~]

Yedam appeared a few days later with Wontak to discuss Yunho's retirement from the werewolf hunting association. "You're lucky you're technically protected by 'shifter law," said Yedam. "Otherwise we'd have to retire you the usual way," he added. Yunho scratched the back of his head. "I would've been fine with that but," he said, shrugging.

"You sure you want to retire?" Asked Yedam. "I'm sure," said Yunho. "I don't see MK retiring anytime soon," he said. "He's a champ, for wanting to stay in the vampire hunting association when you're retiring," said Yedam. "I mean, Kris has you too," said Yunho. "That's true," said Yedam.

"How about this," said Yunho. "I'll retire, but if you [i really] need me for missions I'll do them," he said. "Only if you really need me," he added. "That's a compromise I can agree with," said Yedam as he nodded. "I won't belong to a faction then," said Yunho. "Make your own," said Yedam. "Nah, I'm fine," said Yunho. "I'll remain factionless for now," he said. Yedam nodded. "Alright, I'll make the announcement then," he said.

"I'm gonna miss having you around for missions," said Wontak as he patted Yunho on the shoulder. "Have fun in retirement, and tell San I said hello," he said. Yunho blinked, before nodding, grinning in response. "I'll be sure to tell him," he said.

[center ~]

"You really need to go huh?" Asked Dongju as Yunho made sure he had everything before going through security at the airport, including the new journal that Dongju had gotten him. "Yeah," said Yunho as he turned to Dongju. "You can come visit at any time! Just meet us at Starbucks," he said. "You owe me a drink there by the way!" Said Dongju as he pouted. "Oi," said Yunho. "Only if you get me one," he said. "[i Fine]," said Dongju as he sighed.

"We can tell stories about our brothers over Skype whenever," said Yunho. "I'm sure they'd be [i embarrassed]," Dongju said with a snicker. "Of course," Yunho said, chuckling.

"I better go then, Hwanwoong has a present for you from me," said Yunho as he turned towards the security section. "Really?" Asked Dongju. "I'm sorry I couldn't get you your present before you left, but it should be there when you get home," he said. "I'm sure," said Yunho. "But thanks for getting the plushie for me," he said. Dongju nodded, watching as Yunho headed into the security check in before turning and leaving the airport.

[center ~]

Dongju entered his room after returning from the airport, spotting a box on the bed that Yunho had been sleeping in for the passed few months. "What'd he leave me?" He wondered, going to open the box, blinking in surprise as he picked up the precious wolf plushie that Yunho cherished. A note was also in the box along with Yunho's favorite hoodie folded neatly at the bottom. Dongju picked up the note after putting the plushie on the bed, reading the note.

[i Take care of San! He had convinced me to let him stay to watch over you. I know it's weird to leave my hoodie too but I feel like I won't move on if I don't. This may be my last goodbye to you but I hope you understand that I am leaving San in your care because I wanted to, not because I was forced to. Thank you again, for helping me move on.

-Yunho]

"You're welcome," said Dongju as he put the note down, smiling softly. He went to put the plushie on the desk before going to the box and taking out the hoodie, unfolding it and putting it on. It enveloped him of course, but he didn't mind that. He let out a content sigh as he put the lid on the box, picking it up and bringing it over to the desk. He sat down, grabbing his brother's old journal and flipping over to the very last page. He smiled slightly as he first addressed Dongmyeong before starting to write about the day's events.

[center ~]

Yunho [i really] hated economy class as he finally got off the plane. He swore that next time he'd take business class. He entered the terminal to see three familiar faces waving at him. "Hey guys," he said, waving back to Jongho, Hongjoong and Wooyoung. "Welcome back!" Said Jongho as he grinned.

"You got a present waiting for you at home," said Hongjoong. "Of course I do," Yunho said with an exasperated sigh, earning a chuckle from Hongjoong. "We just got back too, we were waiting on you," said Wooyoung.

"How was Europe?" Asked Yunho as they walked over to baggage claim. "It was fine, I hate travelling," groaned Wooyoung, earning an amused snort from Hongjoong. "Luckily we don't have to travel for a [i while] eh?" Asked Jongho. "Let's hope," said Wooyoung.

[center ~]

Yunho entered his room after spending the day at Starbucks and catching up with the others, spotting a box on his bed. He shook his head and went to unpack his suitcase, stacking the latest shot glasses on the stack of shot glasses. He then put all his clothes away, putting the new journal on his desk afterwards.

He then walked over and examined the box, noticing it was from Virginia and smiled at it. "So it did arrive then," he hummed, picking up the box and bringing it over to his desk and setting it down before sitting down on his chair. He brought the box into his lap and opened it, blinking in surprise at the first thing.

He brought out the new plushie in the form of a white fox, remembering that the fox at the pond had been that color. He put it on his desk before picking up the next thing, which was the drawing of San in a picture frame, with three new additions to the picture. It was who he assumed was Dongmyeong who was facing San, and himself and Dongju under them facing each other. He found a note at the bottom of the box as he put the picture frame on his desk, picking up the note and reading it.

[i I hope you like the presents! The fox plushie was really hard to find I swear! Also I wanted to leave this drawing with you, as I had finished it just before you announced your retirement. I hope you like them both, and tell San I said hello!

-Dongju]

A chuckle escaped Yunho as he put the note on his desk before closing the box and putting it on the floor to be used again later. "I'm sure it was, I'm sure it was," he said, grabbing a pen from the cup full of pencils on his desk and flipping open the journal to the first page. He addressed San before he started writing about the events that happened since he had been living with Dongju and his pack.

[center Chapter 15]

"I guess we need to address the elephant in the room," said Yunho as he turned his head to look at Dongmyeong. "You know how I hate being called by that name," grumbled Dongmyeong.

"Xion," said Hwanwoong. "You know you'll have to move on eventually," he said softly, trying not to set off Xion as he looked concerned. "Can you just call me Dongju?" Asked Xion. "Whatever it takes to move on," said Hwanwoong. Xion, now going by his real name Dongju nodded, leaning back in his chair and closing his eyes.

"It'll take a bit," said Yunho as he sighed. "I know," said Hwanwoong.

[center ~]

"Why take on your brother's identity?" Asked Yonghoon when Xion finally got to meet Dongmyeong's old pack. "I feel like I'll never be the same," said Xion as he looked down at his feet.

"Hey," said Giwook as he patted Xion on the shoulder. "We understand, don't worry," he said. "We'll tell you all about him!" He said, grinning, earning a laugh from Xion as he looked up. "Thanks," said Xion, a genuine smile appearing on his face for the first time in weeks.

"What's your real name anyway?" Asked Kanghyun. "My human name? It's Dongju," said Xion. "Ah," hummed Kanghyun. "Who started calling you Xion?" He asked. "Dongmyeong did," said Xion. "It was just a nickname but I kept using it after being put in a new pack," he said. "Makes sense," said Yonghoon.

"So," said Xion as he tilted his head to the side. "What was my brother like with you guys?" He asked. "Man do we have some [i amazing] stories!" Said Giwook as he grabbed Xion by the arm and dragged him to sit down.

[center ~]

"Why did you even do it?" Asked Dongju as he looked at the drawings of the packs hanging in picture frames in the livingroom. "Why did you take the fall for me?" He asked, staring at the finished drawing of the werewolf pack, more specifically at himself and Dongmyeong's wolf forms.

"I think I know why," came Yunho's voice as he walked over, putting a hand on Dongju's shoulder. "I think like San was doing for me, your brother wanted you to live," he said. "Even at the cost of their lives," he said.

"Why would they do that?" Asked Dongju. "I don't know," said Yunho, being honest. "I really don't," he said. "But I think it's because they wanted to protect us," he said. "San was a hunter, but I was a soldier," he said. "You are a soldier, and Dongmyeong was a tracker," he said.

"Soldiers aren't supposed to live," said Dongju. "No," said Yunho. "But our brothers wanted us to," he said.

[center ~]

"Why?!" Shouted Xion as he held a heavily bleeding Dongmyeong. "Why didn't you just let me kill you?!" He asked. "You deserve to live," coughed Dongmyeong as Xion tried to stop the bleeding. "Please hyung, p-please," said Xion. "Live for me okay?" Asked Dongmyeong as he caressed his brother's face before his arm dropped to the floor.

"Dongmyeong!" Please!" Screamed Xion as he started sobbing. "Please," he sobbed, wanting nothing more than for his brother to wake up.

[center ~]

"You snapped out of it," said Gunhak as he sat in front of Dongju as he ate breakfast. "It seems so," said Dongju as he nodded. "I'm sorry," said Gunhak. "For snapping at you when you returned," he added. "It's okay," said Dongju. "I would've done the same thing," he said.

"I'm sorry," said Dongju as he looked at Gunhak. "For what?" Asked Gunhak. "For everything," said Dongju. "What is there to be sorry about?" Asked Gunhak. "It's okay," he said.

"You should apologize to the others too," suggested Gunhak. "Because Youngjo wants the old you back, and Hwanwoong just wants his mate back," he said. "I will," said Dongju as he nodded.

[center ~]

"I'm sorry," said Dongju as he sat next to Youngjo outside. "It's okay," said Youngjo. "You were grieving," he said. "Well, you still are but," he said, shrugging. "Grief changes people," he said.

"Those times where you were talking about life before, was it to try and help me?" Asked Dongju. "We were trying to get you to snap out of it with that, yeah," said Youngjo. "I guess it didn't work too well," he said. "I think it did," said Dongju. "But my mind just didn't want to deal with it at the time," he said. "I guess that makes sense," said Youngjo.

"It's good to see the old you back," said Youngjo. "Yeah," hummed Dongju.

[center ~]

Hwanwoong looked relieved as he sat down in his usual spot, Dongju joining him a few minutes later with Yunho in his usual spot. "Well, this makes more sense now," said Yunho as he looked at Hwanwoong and Dongju.

"It's funny because Dongmyeong and I found our mates in the same person," said Dongju as he shrugged. "So I guess it worked out," he said. "I guess so," said Hwanwoong.

"I'm sorry," said Dongju. "It's okay," said Hwanwoong. "I know you were going through a lot," he added. "So I understand," he said. "I was just here to help you," he said. "You've done more than that," said Dongju. "You stayed when I pushed everyone else away," he said. "So, thank you, for staying," he said. Hwanwoong nodded.

[center ~]

"Can you describe what San looked like for me?" Asked Dongju as he was sitting at his desk in his room with Yunho relaxing on his bed. "Why?" Asked Yunho. "I want to draw him," said Dongju. "Since I guess you'll be returning home soon," he added. "Well," hummed Yunho as he had to think about it. "He was like this..." He started, and Dongju started drawing.

[center ~]

"I don't know why you wanted to come back out here," said Yunho as he stood at the pond with Dongju. "I wanted to see the fox," said Dongju. "It makes me think that it really is Dongmyeong making sure I'm doing okay," he said. "I'm sure it is," said Yunho as he nodded.

The fox made its appearance again, walking into view and causing Yunho and Dongju to turn towards it. "It's been a while my friend," said Dongju as he leaned down and held out a piece of jerky for it. The fox took the jerky and moved away, going to eat it a few feet away.

"Dongmyeong," said Dongju as he got up and turned to the water. "Where ever you are, I hope you're happy," he said. "I've moved on," he said. "I hope that with time, I'll be able to see you again," he said. "But for now, I'll continue to live life to the best of my abilities," he said.

[center Chapter 14]

"So when were you gonna tell me that you were keeping an eye on me?" Asked Yunho as he looked at Dongmyeong. "I guess when it was all over," said Dongmyeong as he shrugged.

"Then you know, that I was sent to keep an eye on you," said Yunho. "I do," said Dongmyeong. "This just got really complicated," Yunho said, sighing. "That it did, that it did," hummed Dongmyeong.

[center ~]

Yunho looked to the forest when he heard movement, sitting up as he kept an eye on the forest behind the house. "What's up?" Asked Dongmyeong. "San's here," said Yunho as he got up, walking over to the railing as San walked into view. "Oh, he is," said Dongmyeong as he got up and walked over, standing beside Yunho.

"What do you want San?" Asked Yunho. "I think it's time to let go of the past isn't it?" Asked San as he crossed his arms over his chest. "It seems you already have though," he added.

"San," said Yunho, his voice sounding sad. San smiled slightly, and Yunho forced a smile in return, his eyes shining with unshed tears. "It's okay," said San as he faded away, reappearing behind Yunho. "You have the most support you'll ever get, just let go of the past okay?" He asked. "It's okay to move on, I won't be mad," he said, putting a hand on Yunho's shoulder.

Yunho closed his eyes, finally letting the tears fall. "I'm sorry San..." He whispered. "It's okay," said San. "It's okay..." He repeated before fading away for the last time.

It took everything for Yunho to not fall to his knees, broken sobs finally escaping him as he leaned against the railing, trying to stay standing. Dongmyeong reached over and brought Yunho into his arms and let him cry into his chest, unable to do much except provide comfort as best as he could.

[center ~]

"You've been hallucinating your brother's presence," said Hwanhee as he and Yunho stood at the pond with Sunyoul after Sunyoul brought over Yunho's clothes. "I know," said Yunho as he sighed, looking down at the water as he played with the sleeves of his favorite hoodie.

"Why is that?" Asked Sunyoul. "In a way I never moved on from my brother's death," hummed Yunho. "But everyone went along with it," he said. "Especially after Minseok left," he added. "Everyone wanted to make sure I was mentally fine, and I am, I still am," he said.

"I guess people thought that you weren't," said Sunyoul. "I mean, it's why Wontak sent you on this last mission right?" He asked. "He thought it'd be better for me apparently, to see that someone else went through a similar experience as I did," said Yunho. "I understand now, what he meant by that," he said.

"How did San die anyway?" Asked Hwanhee. "Simple answer, he was bit," said Yunho. "For a while it seemed like he [i would] survive," he added. "He was slowly turning, or so it seemed," he said. "We were rescued by that time, and I guess before we could do anything San died because his body rejected it," he said.

"So his body rejected the vampire venom and it ultimately killed him," said Sunyoul. Yunho nodded. "It's funny because I didn't [i really] start to hallucinate him until Minseok left," he said. "Oh?" Asked Hwanhee.

"I guess my mind conjured up San to deal with the loss of someone like Minseok," said Yunho. "Yes, he and MK were the hunters in Jinyoung's side of the pack but Minseok was a special case because he was the youngest," he said. "Well, the youngest in their side of the pack anyway," he added.

"I guess the shock brought up San as a coping mechanism," said Hwanhee. "It seems so," said Sunyoul. Yunho nodded in agreement.

"So the shot glasses? Are those yours or San's?" Asked Hwanhee. "Well, it's my way of remembering San," said Yunho. "So I guess you can say it's San's," he added. "He always wanted to travel the world," he said. "So I got shot glasses from all the places I've been in his honor, and the others decided to fill in with other places, for him," he said.

"The plushies are yours then," said Hwanhee. "Yes," said Yunho. "I took San's idea and turned it into plushies," he said. "The wolf plushie is San," he said. "It's why you have it with you a lot huh?" Asked Sunyoul. Yunho nodded.

[center ~]

Dongmyeong was still holding onto Yunho who had since stopped sobbing and was just softly sniffling. "Come on," Dongmyeong said softly. "Let's go sit down alright?" He asked, gently moving back to the gazebo and moving to let Yunho collapse on the loveseat.

"You wanted to let go of him didn't you?" Asked Dongmyeong as he moved and sat down in his usual spot after making sure Yunho was okay. Yunho nodded. "Seeing how you have dealt with it has made me come to the decision to," he said, his breath hitching as he sniffled, wiping his face with his hoodie sleeve.

"Really?" Asked Dongmyeong. Yunho nodded.

[center ~]

"You mean to tell me that I need to help him move on?" Asked Dongmyeong as he looked at Wontak. "Maybe it will help you," said Wontak. "Help me how?" Asked Dongmyeong. "You need to move on too you know," said Wontak. Dongmyeong sighed. "I know," he said. "But I guess we'll see what happens," he said.

"Help him at least," said Wontak. "I will, I promise," said Dongmyeong. "I see how much you care for him," he said. "I care for everyone on my team," said Wontak. "Of course," said Dongmyeong.

[center ~]

Hwanwoong had joined them after dinner, bringing the wolf plushie at Yunho's request. Yunho was currently curled up in his chair, clutching the wolf plushie to his chest as he sat in silence. Dongmyeong and Hwanwoong let him sit in silence, being silent themselves to not disturb the now calming atmosphere.

[center ~]

"How do you expect me to help Dongmyeong move on if he won't face reality?" Asked Yunho as he looked at Wontak. "You can manage," said Wontak. "I mean you managed for a while," he said. "I did," hummed Yunho as he nodded in agreement. "I guess we'll have to see then," he said.

"You can do it," said Wontak. "I know you can," he said, patting Yunho on the shoulder.

[center Chapter 13]

"If you see San tell him thanks for me," said Yunho as Mingi got ready to leave. "Yeah, no problem," said Mingi as he nodded. "Don't worry though, I'm sure he'll come over for a visit one of these days," he said. "He probably will," said Yunho. "I'll see you around then," said Mingi. Yunho nodded and Mingi turned and sprinted off into the forest to find Yeosang. Yunho watched him go, leaning against the railing as he wondered who would show up next.

[center ~]

"He's gone?" Asked Kogyeol as he walked outside to check on Yunho at Xiao's request. "For now," said Yunho as he nodded from his spot where he was still leaning against the railing.

"Are you alright?" Asked Kogyeol. "For now," hummed Yunho as he turned to look at Kogyeol. Kogyeol blinked, noticing a different look in Yunho's eyes that said something different. "Are you sure?" He asked. "Yeah, I'm fine," said Yunho as he nodded.

"Yunho," called San as he walked into view, causing Yunho to turn around, looking at San. "What's up San?" Asked Yunho. Kogyeol walked over to stand beside Yunho to get a good look at San.

"I know that look," said San. "I think you need to go running," he said. "Mm," hummed Yunho. "It has been a while," he agreed, sighing as he pushed away from the railing. "I'm going running then," he said, turning to Kogyeol who blinked before nodding. "Go ahead," said Kogyeol. "Someone will come after you after a bit I'm sure," he said.

Yunho nodded and went to strip, throwing his clothes in the deck box near the backdoor before changing. He hopped down onto the grass below before running off into the forest. Kogyeol watched him go, turning back to where San was and saw that no one was there. "Huh... Strange," he hummed, turning and going back inside.

[center ~]

When Yunho didn't return after a few hours it raised concern for everyone, and Dongmyeong offered to go find him. Xiao had advised against it however, since he feared that if Yunho was acting weird, then his wolf would be also. "It's not a good idea to go after a werewolf hunter who's out of it," said Xiao. "[i Especially] if you're a werewolf," he added.

"I'll go find him," said Hwanhee. "If Changhyun was here I'd ask for his help but," he said, sighing. "I'll be fine though," he added. "Be careful," said Kogyeol. "He was acting really strange since Mingi left and even stranger since San had appeared and told him to go running," he said. "I'll keep that in mind," said Hwanhee before he left to go find Yunho.

Dongmyeong could only pace back and forth in his room while waiting on news of Yunho as Hwanwoong watched. "I've never seen you so concerned for him like this," said Hwanwoong. "I'm normally not concerned either but if his file is anything to go by, this could end badly," said Dongmyeong as he sighed.

"Is it that bad?" Asked Hwanwoong. "It can be," said Dongmyeong. "But thankfully I'm not out there," he added. "Thankfully," said Hwanwoong.

[center ~]

Hwanhee wasn't the best tracker on the planet, but he was able to follow after Yunho's trail easily enough. He wondered what the hell was up with Yunho, as said person had been completely fine up until Mingi's visit.

"Yunho!" Called Hwanhee as he followed after the wolf pawprints along the ground. They were slowly getting more and more frantic from what he had managed to observe, but who knew what Yunho's mental state was at the current moment. Hwanhee just hopped to get there before something happened.

Hwanhee finally found Yunho sitting by the pond still in his wolf form. "Yunho?" He asked, freezing in place when Yunho turned his head to look at Hwanhee. "Is it the wolf right now?" Asked Hwanhee as he took a step closer, freezing in place when the wolf started growling. "Okay, it's the wolf right now, got it," said Hwanhee as he let out a soft sigh, taking one step back to let the wolf know he wouldn't walk any closer.

"Can you let Yunho come back? I have a couple questions," said Hwanhee. "I won't hurt him," he added. "I know, what it's like to be abandoned by the people you trust the most," he said. "I can help him, if you let me," he said.

"What kind of help can you provide to someone like me?" Asked Yunho as he returned to human form, standing up as he turned to Hwanhee. "I know what it's like," said Hwanhee as he eyed Yunho, keeping his stance as neutral as possible. "You and Mingi are mates aren't you?" He asked.

"It's obvious isn't it?" Asked Yunho. "Not really," said Hwanhee as he scratched the back of his head. "But as I observe you more and more I can see the same sort of longing that I'm sure that even [i I] have considering my circumstances," he said. Yunho nodded at his words.

"But," said Hwanhee. "You have to confront your brother at some point," he said. "I know," said Yunho. "I take it you've read my file then?" He asked. "Yes," said Hwanhee. "And I take it you know then, about your brother," he said. "I do," said Yunho.

"Why go on doing what you do then?" Asked Hwanhee. "Well..." Started Yunho.

Hwanwoong put a hand on Dongmyeong's shoulder as Dongmyeong looked out at the forest from his spot leaning against the railing of the back deck. "They've been out there for a while," said Dongmyeong as he sighed. "I'm sure he's fine," said Hwanwoong. "The both of them," he added.

Sunyoul stepped out onto the back deck, going over to grab Yunho's clothes from the deck box. "They're ready to head back, so Hwanhee asked me to bring Yunho his clothes," he said when Dongmyeong turned to look at him. "He's okay now?" Asked Dongmyeong. "He's okay now," said Sunyoul. "Good," said Dongmyeong. Sunyoul nodded and walked off the back deck and into the forest towards where Hwanhee and Yunho were.

[center ~]

Yunho, Hwanhee and Sunyoul walked back after a few minutes, and Dongmyeong looked almost relieved to see him. "Welcome back," he said. "Thanks," said Yunho, his voice flat and expressionless. Dongmyeong blinked in surprise, turning to Hwanhee who shook his head. "He'll explain it in due time," said Hwanhee. "Ah," hummed Dongmyeong.

"Do you want to stay out here for the night?" Asked Sunyoul as he turned to Yunho. Yunho nodded. "I'll get someone to bring you dinner then," said Sunyoul before he headed inside. "I'll make sure the idiots don't burn the food," said Hwanhee before he headed inside, leaving Dongmyeong and Hwanwoong to watch Yunho go over to the gazebo and step inside, going to his usual spot and lying down. Dongmyeong shook his head and soon joined him.

"I'll join you when dinner's ready," said Hwanwoong. "I think Gunhak needed me for something," he said, going inside and closing the door behind him.

"What brings you two here?" Asked Yunho as they sat around the back porch. "San was persistent in getting us to come over," said Yeosang. "I also wanted to check on you, to see how things are," said Mingi. "So I convinced Yeosang to come here," he said. "Running into Jinwook however, wasn't planned," he said.

"I may have to ask Wooseok to come over to check on Jinwook," hummed Xiao as he looked thoughtful. "I doubt it'll help," said Mingi. "I'm older than Wooseok, if I couldn't do much for Jinwook I doubt Wooseok can," he said.

"It's been a while since you were alpha of a 'shifter pack though," pointed out Yunho. "True," said Mingi. "But that's beside the point," he said. "I was surprised my alpha's voice is still working," he said. "Once an alpha always an alpha it seems," said Xiao. "It seems so," said Mingi.

"Why are you with a vampire again? Surely you can't match their speed," said Xiao as he looked at Mingi. "I'm from China," said Mingi. "Worked for the government there," he added, shrugging. "Made some weird thing that enhanced my abilities so I'm just as fast as a vampire now," he said.

"Isn't it the thing that Jun and his pack have too?" Asked Yunho. "They recently agreed to the terms the government set or something," he said. "I don't know if it's a thing though," he added, shrugging. "It's something that I've learned recently from Chan in the group chats when Jun went to visit him," he said. "Jun was allowed to tell him since he was family or something," he said. "But he couldn't tell everyone else the full thing anyway," he added.

"Probably not," said Mingi. "I know what you're talking about though, but I got my thing a [i long] time ago," he said. "I can show you this though," he said, lifting his shirt to reveal a tattoo on his chest directly over his heart. "Since it's no longer used anyway," he added. "Isn't that one of those contract thingies?" Asked Dongmyeong as he looked closer. "Yeah," said Mingi. "I'm bound to Yeosang by 'shifter law and this contract," he said.

"So that's why you were surprised that your alpha's voice still worked?" Asked Xiao. Mingi nodded, bringing his shirt down. "I no longer work for the government but they do tend to keep tabs on us," he said. "Where's yours then? Since I assume it goes both ways?" Asked Xiao as he looked at Yeosang. "On my shoulder," said Yeosang. "We both keep it out of view simply due to how easy it is to transfer contract ownership," he said. "I see," said Xiao.

"What brings you here again?" Asked Yunho. "Other than bringing the insane one back? Here," said Yeosang as he tossed a shot glass at Yunho who caught it. "One I don't have?" Asked Yunho as he examined it, looking to see it had come from NYC. "It's from the Statue of Liberty," said Yeosang. "Yep, I don't have this one," said Yunho as he nodded, putting the shot glass on the table.

"What's with the shot glass?" Asked Xiao. "San probably got it," said Yunho. "And asked Yeosang to give it to me," he said. "Yep," said Yeosang.

"Should see the giant stack of shot glasses in his room," Dongmyeong said with a snort, earning an embarrassed chuckle from Yunho as he scratched the back of his head. "I don't drink," said Yunho. "Says the one with a giant stack of shot glasses," Yeosang said with a teasing smirk. "Oi," whined Yunho. "I don't," he said, pouting.

"How long are you going to be here?" Asked Xiao. "We're leaving now actually," said Yeosang. "Just stopped by to catch up," he said. "What, you're becoming San now?" Asked Yunho. "What can I say, he's rubbing off on us," Yeosang said, shaking his head. "I need to hunt anyway," he added. "Mingi can stay here until then," he said.

"Don't get caught," said Xiao. Yeosang nodded and turned and left, going to hunt. Mingi watched him go, letting out a sigh as he shook his head. "What's wrong?" Asked Yunho. "He never wants to stay in one place for too long," said Mingi. "That's how vampires usually are, aren't they?" Asked Yunho.

"I'm trying to get him to be more social around people," said Mingi. "Keep at it, maybe you can rub off on San too," Yunho muttered, earning an amused chuckle from Mingi.

"So how do you two know each other?" Asked Xiao as he looked between Yunho and Mingi. "We were in the same situation," said Mingi. "Except I was with Yeosang at the time," he added. "I swore to get the both of them out and well, the rest is history," he said. "It's how San got involved with Yeosang and Yunho got to go with Hongjoong," he added. "I see," said Xiao.

[center ~]

Hwanhee and Jinwook walked over after an hour of just catching up with each other and everyone turned to them. "Everything alright?" Asked Xiao. "I'm better now," said Jinwook as he scratched the back of his head. "Good," said Mingi. "It's gonna be difficult if you go into another bout of insanity again," he said.

"What even caused this one anyway?" Asked Xiao. "I'm not sure really," said Jinwook as he sighed. "I wish I knew the answer to that one, but I don't," he said. "I'm normally better at controlling it than this but something just made me lose it [i immediately]," he said.

"It could be because you ran into Yeosang and I," said Mingi. "Most would be prone to thinking that I was captured by Yeosang or something," he said, shrugging.

"I think that if it was to happen again, it may be time for someone to kill me," said Jinwook. "I am [i not] allowing that to happen," growled Hwanhee. "If we were to kill one, we'd have to kill the other," said Mingi. "I don't want that to happen," he said.

"Hunting has proven to help with that though," said Yunho. "From observing others anyway," he added. "So technically it could work," he said. "I'm not one for hunting though," said Jinwook. "I know, but it's worth the shot isn't it?" Asked Yunho. "I guess," hummed Jinwook.

[center Chapter 11]

A hum left Yunho as he opened his eyes, finding himself in the bed he was using while staying with Dongmyeong and his pack. "Oh right," he grunted, sitting up and looking at the bed in front of him. "We got back yesterday," he said, turning to look across the room to Dongmyeong and Hwanwoong's bed, finding it empty. He checked the time on his phone to find it just after 3 in the morning and got up, going to put on a shirt and head out, going to put on his shoes and head out the back door.

Dongmyeong and Hwanwoong were sitting in their usual spots, the both of them staring off into different directions, both in their own thoughts. "You two are out here again," said Yunho. "And you followed it seemed," said Dongmyeong as he turned his head to look at Yunho. "Come sit down at least," said Hwanwoong as he motioned to the love seat that Yunho usually laid down on. Yunho nodded and went to lay down, letting his feet hang off the end as he got comfortable. The three of them spent the rest of the night in comfortable silence, just enjoying each other's company.

[center ~]

It was Hwanhee who found them in the morning, going outside to get a breath of fresh air. "You three were out here all night?" Asked Hwanhee as he walked over to the gazebo and pushed open the mesh covering before stepping inside and letting it close behind him. "It shouldn't be unheard of by now," said Dongmyeong as he turned his head to look at Hwanhee. "Is Changhyun back too?" He asked. "Should've been back yesterday," said Hwanhee.

"I think Wontak needed him for something," said Yunho as he opened his eyes. "I saw a message in our group chat that said that he was needed," he said. "He never responded but I assume something happened because I missed a call from them before waking up," he said. "Ah," said Hwanhee.

"How was the trip anyway?" Asked Hwanhee. "It was fine," said Yunho. "It was nice to visit home again," he added. "I got my first coffee at that Starbucks that's so damn famous!" Said Dongmyeong. "It wasn't anything great but I finally got a drink from there," he said. A chuckle escaped Yunho as he shook his head in amusement.

"Did you bring anything back with you?" Asked Hwanhee. "One of the plushies," said Yunho. "Couldn't leave home without the wolf one huh?" Asked Dongmyeong. "It's San's," said Yunho. "He said to take it with me," he said, shrugging.

"What brings you out here?" Asked Hwanwoong. "I couldn't sleep," said Hwanhee. "Jinwook has been gone for a while," hummed Dongmyeong. "He's coming back," said Hwanhee. "Xiao did confirm that," he said. "So I heard," said Hwanwoong.

"Why not come back now?" Came a new voice, causing everyone to look towards the forest. "Yeosang! Mingi!" Said Yunho. Mingi waved from his spot next to Yeosang and Yeosang nodded in greeting. Yunho got to his feet, leaving the gazebo and the porch to go greet them in the backyard. Hwanhee followed after him, and Dongmyeong followed a minute later.

"Had to drag your friend back," said Mingi as Yunho reached him first. "Which friend?" Asked Yunho as he looked confused. "The insane one," said Yeosang. "Was nearly torn to shreds," he said with a snort, causing Hwanhee to rush over and nearly slam Yeosang into a tree if Yunho didn't stop him by grabbing Hwanhee by the shoulder and basically forcing him to stay there.

"Where is he?" Asked Yunho. "Relax, he's unharmed for the most part," said Yeosang. "My alpha's voice still works it seems," said Mingi as he shrugged. "Get your pack alpha out here though," he added. "Because I have a feeling your insane friend is still in that stage," he said. "Hwanwoong," called Yunho. "I got it," called Hwanwoong as he went to get Xiao.

"You can't do anything to Yeosang, he's protected by 'shifter law by the way," said Yunho as he kept a firm hand on Hwanhee. "I get it alright?!" Asked Hwanhee as he forced himself to relax. "At least tell me he's okay," he said. "He'll be fine," said Yeosang.

"Reassuring," Hwanhee said with sarcasm. "[i If] we wanted to kill him, we would've done so by [i now] at least," said Mingi. A roar came from behind them and Mingi turned around, spotting Jinwook a few feet away and angry as hell. "Oi," growled Mingi, his alpha's voice in full power. "I told you to [i stay put]," he said, glaring at the bear before him. "Do I need to put you in your place again?" He asked.

"Jinwook!" Said Hwanhee. "I'm fine," he said. "See?!" He asked. "I'm fine, look at me," he said, moving to show that he really was fine. "Jinwook!" Shouted Xiao as he ran over, eyeing Mingi and Yeosang with a wary look before turning his attention to Jinwook who growled at him.

"Jinwook," warned Xiao. "You [i know] what happened last time," he said, focusing on bringing out his alpha's voice to quell the insanity that had taken over Jinwook's mind. "No one is here to hurt you," he said. "Hwanhee is fine, look," he said, motioning to Hwanhee who for all intents and purposes was scared out of his mind. Jinwook hadn't gotten [i this] close to completely losing it in a [i long] time.

"Help me out a bit here," said Xiao. "I've managed to get him to stay in place," said Mingi. "But my alpha's voice isn't as strong as most," he said. "I'm still new at this alpha thing, come on man," growled Xiao. "Should I fight the insanity out of him?" Asked Mingi. "Do what you must," said Xiao. "Keep out of this Hwanhee, that is an order," he said, his alpha's voice at full power. Hwanhee shivered, gritting his teeth but complying with the command.

Mingi changed on the spot, his polar bear form shocking everyone as he was larger than Wooseok was. "Take care of it Mingi," said Yeosang, his expression unreadable. Mingi let out a commanding growl at Jinwook, giving him one last chance to snap out of it.

When Jinwook launched himself at Mingi Mingi had no choice but to use force. Hwanhee was forced to turn and look a different direction and Yunho's grip on his shoulder loosened slightly, turning to one of comfort as Mingi forced Jinwook to the ground, snarling at him in the most commanding way possible. That seemed to break Jinwook out of his insanity as his eyes returned to their usual soft look. Mingi growled again, and Jinwook whimpered slightly, submitting fully. Mingi moved away, and Jinwook got to his feet.

"Is he okay now?" Asked Hwanhee as he turned to look at the scene. Mingi nodded and Yeosang threw them both some clothes to change into. "He's fine, I think," said Xiao as Mingi and Jinwook went to change and get dressed before walking into view once they were dressed.

"Sorry about that," said Jinwook as he scratched the back of his head. "It's alright," said Mingi. "I know it's hard to stay in control once the insanity kicks in," he said. Hwanhee tackled Jinwook, relief washing over him. "Damn it, don't lose it like that again, please," he said. "I can't guarantee it, but I'll try," said Jinwook as he wrapped his arms around Hwanhee.

"Will you two be okay by yourselves for a bit?" Asked Xiao. "For now," said Jinwook as he nodded. "Try and keep your sanity in check will you?" Asked Xiao. "I'll try," said Jinwook.

"I think we need to have a talk," said Xiao as he turned to Yeosang and Mingi. "To the back deck then," said Yunho. Mingi and Yeosang nodded. "After you," said Yeosang. Xiao turned, leading the way back to the house. Hwanhee and Jinwook stayed behind to catch up on things.

If there was one thing that Dongmyeong noticed while staying at Yunho's pack house, it was that everyone seemed to avoid talking about San. It was like they danced around the subject of San, and when Yunho asked about him Byungchan had said he had gone to find Yeosang and Mingi again.

[center ~]

"Why are you guys avoiding talking about San?" Asked Dongmyeong as he got to spend time with Byungchan while Yunho was doing something with MK who had recently returned from missions. "No one really talks about San until he actually shows up," said Byungchan as he shrugged. "You seem to avoid talking about him in general," said Dongmyeong.

"Does it really seem that way?" Asked Byungchan. Dongmyeong nodded. "It's just weird," he said. "We'll say where he is at this current time, which last I heard was that he was going to find Yeosang and Mingi so," Byungchan said, shrugging. Dongmyeong hummed in response.

"It's like how everyone keeps avoiding talking about your brother isn't it?" Asked Byungchan. Dongmyeong blinked in surprise, looking at Byungchan. "How'd you know about that?" He asked. "Who do you think gets the most information here in North America?" Asked Byungchan. "We get information quickly about who's coming to visit and for what reason," he said. "It wasn't hard to get your file from both Yedam and Mashiho," he said.

"You're not going to use whatever you know about me to your advantage are you?" Asked Dongmyeong. "Of course not," said Byungchan. "Why would we do something like that?" He asked.

"You can use [i anything] you know about me to your advantage, but you won't?" Asked Dongmyeong. "Despite all you've heard about Kris's pack as a whole, especially [i my] side, we're no different from other packs," said Byungchan. "The only thing that sets us apart from the others is just who runs it," he said. "I see," said Dongmyeong.

[center ~]

"You seem more relaxed," said Dongmyeong as he and Yunho were sitting on the bench a few feet from the lake behind the house. "I'm always relaxed when I'm home," said Yunho.

"I can see that," said Dongmyeong. "Why is that though?" He asked. "Considering your history anyway," he added. "They proved to me that I can trust them," said Yunho. "Hongjoong was the first to accept me for who I was," he said. "I think Seungwoo saw himself in me," he said. "It's a dangerous life we live, as soldiers anyway," he added. "But they try to make things easier for us," he said.

"Life as a part of the supernatural world itself is dangerous," said Dongmyeong. "True," said Yunho. "But it's good they do that for you," said Dongmyeong. "Not many would go to such lengths, especially concerning your past," he said. "They proved me wrong, and now I am able to put my full trust in them," said Yunho.

"So I heard one of your own left," said Dongmyeong. "Minseok? He was in Jinyoung's side of the pack but yes," said Yunho. "What was he like?" Asked Dongmyeong. "He was their youngest, in the subpack and that side of the pack as a whole," said Yunho. "Apparently his tracking was almost on par with Gongchan, who is only second to Jinyoung when it comes to tracking," he said.

"Why did he leave?" Asked Dongmyeong. "I don't know," said Yunho as his expression turned blank. "Apparently he couldn't handle it," he said. "But I think it was a more personal issue, because Yedam keeps up with him whenever he can," he said. "I see," said Dongmyeong.

[center ~]

It was Yunho's turn to be woken up by whimpering coming from his right, his eyes opening as he turned his head to spot Dongmyeong curled up into a ball, whimpering from whatever nightmare was plaguing his mind. Yunho sat up, reaching over and gently shaking Dongmyeong awake. Dongmyeong woke with a start, moving to smack the hand away as he sat up.

"What the hell?" Asked Dongmyeong. "You were having nightmares," said Yunho as he let his arm drop to his side, looking away from Dongmyeong. "I see," said Dongmyeong as he rubbed his face with his hand, sighing as he let his hand drop to his side.

"Come on," said Yunho as he got up, going to grab his phone and putting it in his pocket before leaving the room to go outside. Dongmyeong quickly got up, grabbing his phone and following Yunho downstairs and outside.

It was the moonlight that highlighted the nasty scar across Yunho's back that caused Dongmyeong to freeze in place, a gasp escaping him as he noticed just how bad it looked. "What?" Asked Yunho as he turned his head to look at Dongmyeong. "...Nothing," said Dongmyeong as he shook his head. "You just forgot to put a shirt on," he said. "Uh huh," said Yunho as he continued walking, going to sit at the bench that had become their hangout spot. Dongmyeong shook his head and continued walking, going to sit beside Yunho.

"When are you due home?" Asked Yunho. "Whenever you feel fine enough to head back," said Dongmyeong. "Cool," said Yunho as he nodded. "We'll head back when San decides to show up," he said. "When is that?" Asked Dongmyeong. "Soon," said Yunho as he nodded. "How soon is that?" Asked Dongmyeong.

"In the morning?" Came a voice, causing Yunho to smirk. "You have the best timing San," said Yunho. "Hello San," said Dongmyeong. "Hello werewolf," said San. "Behave will you?" Asked Yunho. "Yeah yeah," said San, earning a scoff from Yunho.

"For being the older twin, San looks like he's more in charge than you are," remarked Dongmyeong. "Back in my home pack, San was a hunter and he hunted for food for the family and we sold what we weren't using," said Yunho. "I was damn good at it you got to admit," San said, puffing out his chest in pride.

"Anyway," said Yunho. "Hunters held a higher rank in the pack than the soldiers," he said. "I was at the bottom, but San always made sure I had food," he said. "Right," said Dongmyeong. "So I have a bit more respect for him, despite me being the older twin between us," said Yunho. "I get it," said Dongmyeong.

"I think it's why it took so long before we were abandoned," said San. "I fought for us to stay in the pack," he said. "Didn't fight hard enough it seems," said Yunho. "I tried alright?" Asked San. "I'm not blaming you," said Yunho. San hummed in response.

"What was it like for you?" Asked Yunho as he looked at Dongmyeong. "I don't know," said Dongmyeong. "We were both kicked out when we started changing," he said. "So I've been exposed to werewolf hunting at a [i very] young age," he said. "But I assume things were run the same way," he added. "My father was the main alpha and one of the toughest people you'd ever meet," he said. "My mother was his pure blooded mate," he added. "Never found out what she did though, since she mostly raised my brother and I," he said.

"You weren't kicked out though, from what I understand," said Yunho. "No," said Dongmyeong. "I killed my home pack in a fit of rage because my brother was "killed," he said putting up fingers in an air quote around the word killed. "You did this just a few weeks after you both started changing?" Asked Yunho. Dongmyeong nodded. "I didn't realize that my father was doing it to protect Xion but," he said, sighing. "It happens," said Yunho. "That it does," said Dongmyeong.

[center Chapter 9]

Dongmyeong noticed one thing immediately when he got to Yunho's room. The amount of shot glasses just sitting stacked on the dresser was a bit much, even by supernatural standards. "I don't drink," said Yunho as he watched Dongmyeong pick up a shot glass and examine it to see that it had come from New York City. "Those were all gifts, I believe there's 50 of them, one for each state," he said.

"I can see that," said Dongmyeong. "All gifts from San?" He asked. "No," said Yunho. "Seungwoo got me one from every territory he's visited in the states," he said. "The rest are from San, and Seonghwa when San's busy," he said, putting the alligator plushie on the bed next to a wolf plushie.

"And the plushies?" Asked Dongmyeong, an amused look appearing on his face when he turned to spy a giant pile of plushies in the corner, with a giant bear plushie being at the back of the pile and standing out. "Well," Yunho said, scratching the back of his head as he turned to look at the pile of plushies. "When they ran out of shot glasses San has made it his mission to fill the corner with plushies apparently," he said.

"You have a weird way of dealing with stuff like this," remarked Dongmyeong as he went to sit down on Yunho's bed to take in the rest of the room. "Everyone does," said Yunho. "At least I'm tame compared to some hunters I've seen," he said. "Even if the shot glasses are a bit much," he added.

"What about you? What do you use to cope?" Asked Yunho as he went to straighten up the plushie pile. "I draw," said Dongmyeong. "My brother used it as a distraction, so I decided to continue it in his memory," he said. "And have late night talking sessions apparently," said Yunho as he shook his head in amusement. "Hey, those do help," said Dongmyeong.

"So we're going to be sharing beds," said Yunho as he turned around to look at Dongmyeong. "I'd have a second bed in here but since San doesn't sleep, well," he said, shrugging. "Unless you want to sleep on the floor?" He asked. "Nah, I'm fine sharing beds," said Dongmyeong. "I'll probably end up wandering outside later anyway, who knows," he said. "I'd be careful if I were you," said Yunho. "Especially since Hanse and Chan are home," he added. "Those two don't know you too well yet, so they'll attack you if you're alone," he said. "Probably anyway," he added. "I'll be careful," said Dongmyeong as he nodded.

[center ~]

Meeting the other members of the pack was an experience that Dongmyeong wasn't expecting at [i all]. He knew Byungchan already, Byungchan and Seungwoo were the ones to find him after all, but the others Dongmyeong was completely unsure of. Sejun was more relaxed at home than he was at Starbucks, Hanse and Chan seemed to try to avoid him whenever possible, Subin was just as cold and indifferent as his uncle apparently, and Seungsik just stayed out of his way when they were in the same room together.

"Your pack seems so much [i fun] to be in," said Dongmyeong after most of the introductions were made. "Well," said Yunho as he scratched the back of his head. "Things are a bit more relaxed now than before, you should see how things are when big alpha [i Seungwoo] is here," he said.

"It's not everyday that an ex werewolf hunter shows up at our door," said Byungchan as he shrugged. "Just don't cause trouble and you'll do fine here," he said, studying Dongmyeong's reaction to his words. "...I see," said Dongmyeong as he blinked in surprise before his expression turned blank. "You don't have to worry about me causing trouble," he said. "I'm sure Yunho can apprehend me if something I did was worth incurring the wrath of a werewolf hunter," he said.

"I'd rather that not be the case," said Yunho as he turned to Dongmyeong. "You [i are] my last mission anyway, I could kill you right now and be done but," he said, shrugging. "Something tells me I should keep you alive for the time being," he said.

[center ~]

Dongmyeong was woken up by soft whimpering coming from next to him, causing him to turn over and look at Yunho who was clutching the wolf plushie to his chest as a lifeline. Dongmyeong moved slowly to sit up, wondering if he should wake Yunho or not.

That question was soon answered when Yunho woke up, sitting up in alarm and letting the plushie fall into his lap. "Are you okay?" Asked Dongmyeong as he turned to Yunho. "...I think so," said Yunho as he blinked several times to get the images out of his head.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Asked Dongmyeong. "No," said Yunho as he looked down at the plushie in his lap. "I'll be fine," he said, moving the plushie off his lap and onto the bed before getting up. "Where are you going?" Asked Dongmyeong. "Out for a walk," said Yunho as he walked out of the room. Dongmyeong quickly got up and grabbed their phones before following after Yunho, the both of them putting on their shoes before Dongmyeong followed Yunho outside to the lake behind the house.

Yunho sat down on a wooden bench a few feet from the water and stared out at the dark water with a distant look on his face. Dongmyeong sat beside him, making sure to put Yunho's phone in Yunho's hand before turning his attention to the water.

"You didn't have to follow me out here you know," said Yunho as he gripped the phone in his hand before moving to put it in his pants pocket before moving back to his original position. "I just didn't want to be alone," said Dongmyeong. Yunho hummed in response.

"Nightmares again?" Came a voice, causing Yunho to turn to spot Seungsik returning from a hunt. "Mm," hummed Yunho as he nodded before turning his attention back to the water. "Where were you?" Asked Dongmyeong. "Hunting," said Seungsik as he shrugged, going to sit next to Yunho.

"Hunting?" Asked Dongmyeong. "You didn't know Seungsik was a hybrid?" Asked Yunho. "It never came up," said Dongmyeong. "Plus I don't smell anything really," he said. "You're used to the pine forest smell we give off," said Seungsik. "My scent is just [i slightly] muted, and to the 'shifters and other vampires it's more obvious but," he said, shrugging.

"Hey does Chan have an older brother?" Asked Dongmyeong. "He did," said Seungsik. "Why?" He asked. "Was his name Jun? Or something?" Asked Dongmyeong. "I don't know," said Seungsik. "You'd have to ask him yourself in the morning," he added. "Why?" He asked. "Chan just looks familiar is all," hummed Dongmyeong as he shook his head.

[center ~]

"You knew my brother?" Asked Chan as he turned to Dongmyeong as Dongmyeong asked him about Jun during breakfast. "I was in contact with him for a good 5 years, I mostly got my missions from him when I was a werewolf hunter," said Dongmyeong. "Wontak knows him better though," he added. "I don't know what happened to him before you ask, I lost contact when he moved to China," he said.

"Is that how you got control of his faction?" Asked Yunho. "Jun's? Yeah," said Dongmyeong. "He left the faction in my care and then left, moving to China," he said. "I don't know why though," he added.

"I didn't think he was still alive after all these years," said Chan. "Ask Yedam, he may be able to get in contact with him," said Yunho. "I might just do that," said Chan.

The cold and expressionless Yunho was back, and Dongmyeong wasn't sure what to make of the situation. Hwanwoong tried to do [i something] to get Yunho to be more outgoing but was failing at it. Spectacularly at that.

"You don't have to put up this front here," said Hwanwoong. "You're safe," he said. Yunho shook his head. "I'd rather not," he said. "The situation can change at any moment," he said. "What will it take for you to finally just change?" He asked. "Going home, but that means abandoning the mission," he said.

"Abandoning a mission is a big no no in the hunters world," said Dongmyeong. "Though, if I went with you, [i technically] it wouldn't be abandoning the mission right?" He asked. "I get it, you're homesick," he said. "I know that feeling," he said. "[i Every] hunter knows that feeling if their pack isn't nomadic," he said.

"Would you be willing to come with me for this visit though?" Asked Yunho. "To be completely honest? No," said Dongmyeong. "But the mission parameters never said anything about going somewhere with the person you're keeping an eye on," he said. "I have my own mission to do but," he said, shrugging. "I'll be fine," he said. "I'm leader of my faction so," he added. "Any missions I can pass down to Hwanhee or Minhee," he said.

After making sure everyone was aware they were going back to Yunho's pack house for a visit Dongmyeong and Yunho left, hopping on a plane going to Toronto. Yunho hoped to make it there in time to at least see Hongjoong and Jongho before they were off to Europe, but judging from the group chats they'd be leaving relatively soon.

It was Sejun that had come to get them from the airport, having [i just] dropped off Hongjoong and Jongho. "We literally [i just] missed them?" Asked Yunho as he and Dongmyeong rushed over to where Sejun was. "They just left the security check in," said Sejun. "Sorry man," he said, scratching the back of his head. "Damn," said Yunho as he gave a small pout. "We should've just ran over to the security check in," he whined, earning a laugh from Sejun.

"It was urgent," said Sejun. "So they couldn't put this off any longer," he added. "Right, Wooyoung found something," Yunho said, nodding his head. "What'd he find?" Asked Dongmyeong as he looked between Sejun and Yunho, noticing a more relaxed stance coming from Yunho as he was finally home. "Another potential pack to make contact with," said Sejun. "I see," hummed Dongmyeong.

"We're going to Starbucks for the rest of the afternoon, if you don't mind," said Sejun. "Sure," said Yunho as he nodded. "Is this the famous "Yuto's Starbucks" that's become just as famous as Moonbin's coffee shop?" Asked Dongmyeong as he blinked in surprise. "Yep," said Sejun. "Is this your first visit?" He asked. Dongmyeong nodded.

"It's just a Starbucks," Yunho said, shaking his head in amusement. "But [i everyone] talks about it [i all] the time," said Dongmyeong. "I know it's not as famous to the humans but to us hunters who go to places like this for information it's great," he said.

"How have you not been here yet?" Asked Yunho. "I tended to avoid Toronto due to being a werewolf hunter," said Dongmyeong. "I respect the rules, and I doubt anyone from your pack would've liked me hanging around," he said. "After becoming a vampire hunter, I never had time to come here," he added. "So yeah, it's technically my first time here," he said.

"Funny, because Hwanhee always visits whenever he can," said Sejun as they walked out to the car. "Really?" Asked Dongmyeong. "He used to get his missions from here," said Sejun. "Canada has started to become the next Italy apparently," he said. "But it's died down some in the last few years," he said.

"Chani's done a decent job keeping the city pretty much free of vampires except for him and his coven when they come get Yuto from the Starbucks," said Yunho. "Having hunters constantly in the city has basically turned away the human drinking vampires, well except for Eunki," said Sejun. "Eunki keeps his word about taking one human though," said Yunho. "That's true," said Sejun as they reached the car.

"You guys heard from San yet?" Asked Yunho as Sejun drove to the Starbucks. "Mm, no not yet," said Sejun. "But Seonghwa had come by a few days ago to say that he did run into San," he said. "He's staying with Chani and his coven for a bit," he said. "But he wanted to see you," he added. "So I'll let him know you're here," he said.

"Seonghwa wanted to see me?" Asked Yunho as he blinked in surprise. "Got a present from the last area he was in apparently," said Sejun. "Ah!" Said Yunho. "Can't wait, he always gets souvenirs from the places he's been," he said. "You've decorated your room with everything he's gotten you," Sejun said with a chuckle.

"[i Almost] everything," said Yunho. "There's some things that I don't keep in my room, but that's because San took them," he said. "Though there is one hoodie I always wear," he said. "Seonghwa gave you that one didn't he?" Asked Sejun. Yunho nodded. "Said San was too busy to get it to me so he asked Seonghwa to do it," he said.

[center ~]

"You're late," called Yuto as Sejun walked into the Starbucks with Yunho and Dongmyeong behind him. "Sorry," said Sejun. "Had to go pick up these two," he said, motioning to Yunho and Dongmyeong. "Where's Yanan and Hyojong?" He asked. "They called out today, Hui needed them for something," said Yuto. "Just us today huh?" Asked Sejun. "Yep," said Yuto as Sejun went to get ready, putting on an apron and going behind the counter. "Turn on the open sign if you don't mind," Yuto called to Yunho who went to do so before going to take a seat in Hui's spot, with Dongmyeong sitting beside him.

If there was one thing that Dongmyeong observed, other than the most relaxed Yunho Dongmyeong had ever seen anyway, there were still a [i ton] of hunters coming through the city to pass on information and even catch up with Yunho. Dongmyeong hadn't been the most social person on the planet when he was hunting werewolves, and even now he felt awkward to not know [i any] of the teams coming through Starbucks that day.

"Not what you were expecting huh?" Asked Yunho as he scrolled through the chats on his phone to update whatever group chats he was in to say who had come by. "No," said Dongmyeong. "Have you been to Taehyun's cafe?" Asked Yunho. "Yes," said Dongmyeong. "But not many teams go through there," he said. "It's run the same way, I know," he added. "Same with Moonbin's coffee shop but," he said, shrugging. "This is all new to me," he said.

The door chimed and in walked a vampire Dongmyeong didn't recognize. "Seonghwa," said Sejun as he waved. "Hey, heard Yunho was in town," said Seonghwa as he smiled slightly not showing his fangs. "He's in Hui's spot," said Sejun. Seonghwa nodded and turned, walking over to where Yunho was sitting, sitting in front of him.

"What do you got for me?" Asked Yunho as he grinned in greeting. "A plushie," said Seonghwa as he plopped a stuffed alligator onto the table. "Another one?" Yunho said in exasperation though Seonghwa could hear the happy tone in his voice. "Of course," Seonghwa said with a chuckle. "You and your damn plushies," Yunho said with a scowl, taking the plushie off the table and hugging it to his chest in thanks. The amused smirk on Seonghwa's face said it all as Dongmyeong shook his head in amusement.

"The only way this would be a perfect visit is if San was here," said Yunho as he looked out towards the forest from the railing on the back deck. "And Wooyoung," he added. "Did San come visit at least?" Asked Jongho as he stood beside Yunho. "For a little bit," said Yunho. "He was here with me an entire day once, we just went on a hike through the forest," he said. "I'm sure he'll come for a visit again soon," said Jongho as he patted Yunho on the shoulder.

[center ~]

"So you've met San?" Asked Hongjoong as he walked with Dongmyeong to the pond. "Yeah," said Dongmyeong. "I was surprised to see him, I expected a completely different person from who I met," he said, earning a chuckle from Hongjoong. "San does have that sort of effect on people," said Hongjoong.

"I didn't know Yunho could be so... [i Emotional] around people he knows," said Dongmyeong. "Believe me, he's much different at home than he is here," said Hongjoong. "The emotionless front is more due to which pack we belong to," he said. "Seungwoo did drill it into our heads that things were ran differently with him than the other generals," he said. "Byungchan and Jongho are the odd ones out, but that's because they both came from Jinyoung's side of the pack," he said.

"Hunting does have a part in it though," said Dongmyeong. "That it does... That it does," hummed Hongjoong as they reached the pond.

"No fox today it seems," said Dongmyeong as he looked around, half expecting the fox to show up. "Did you bring any jerky with you?" Asked Hongjoong. "No, but he usually shows up anyway," said Dongmyeong as he shrugged. Hongjoong hummed in response.

[center ~]

"So that's why you're here," said Hwanhee as he walked over to stand beside Yunho who was still talking with Jongho. "Yeah, Xiao explained it I'm guessing?" Asked Yunho as he turned his head to look at Hwanhee. "Gave me the gist of it," said Hwanhee. "I'm surprised Wontak decided to do something [i now] of all times," he said, leaning against the railing.

"Was it that bad?" Asked Yunho. "In the beginning it was," said Hwanhee. "Dongmyeong's seemed to somewhat have moved on, with some help from Hwanwoong it seems," he said. "He still lashes out when anyone mentions Xion's name but I guess I was expecting him to be out of grief by now," he said.

"Grief changes people," said Jongho. "Some more than others," he added. "We've all had our fair share of grief, but nothing hits harder than losing someone close to you like Dongmyeong did," he said. "Especially to lose someone like Dongmyeong did," he added.

"He had a choice," said Yunho. "But he chose the harder option because he couldn't see anyone else doing what he did," he said. "In the end it still hurts like hell, no matter who did it," he said.

"It's why I fear the day you end up dead," came San's voice as he walked into view. "San!" Said Yunho as he smiled, the smile lighting up his face. "Hey San," said Jongho as he waved. Hwanhee blinked, before waving awkwardly. "Hello San?" He asked.

"Oh, someone who doesn't know me?" Asked San as he tilted his head to the side. "San, this is Hwanhee, Hwanhee this is San, my twin," said Yunho. "Nice to meet you," said Hwanhee. "Likewise," said San as he nodded.

"What brings you back here?" Asked Yunho. "Finally found Yeosang and Mingi, have yet to find Seonghwa though," said San. "Hm," hummed Yunho. "I don't know where Seonghwa is," he said. "Last I checked he was visiting Jaehwan and Zuho?" Asked Jongho as he looked thoughtful. "I was going there next," said San. "Say hello to Seonghwa for me," said Yunho. "Will do," said San before he turned around and sprinted off. "By San," Yunho called after him.

[center ~]

"You guys just missed San!" Called Yunho as Hongjoong and Dongmyeong walked into view after returning from the pond. "Aw, really? What'd he come by for?" Asked Hongjoong. "Just to say he found Yeosang and Mingi," said Yunho. "But he couldn't find Seonghwa so he was going to Jaehwan's place next," he said.

"Well you guys are gonna miss dinner if you don't hurry up and get your food," called Xiao as he came outside. That got Hwanhee and Yunho to rush inside, with Dongmyeong following behind them. Jongho and Hongjoong exchange glances before heading inside with Xiao.

"So you met San?" Asked Hongjoong as he sat beside Hwanhee at the kitchen island with food. "Mhm," said Hwanhee. "What'd you think?" asked Hongjoong. "I dunno," said Hwanhee. "He's very... Outspoken?" He asked.

"That's very unusual for San," remarked Yunho from his spot at the kitchen table. "I mean I guess I was here so I see where you got that from but," he said, shrugging. "He's usually more quiet and reserved," he said. "But his usual "come for a minute, catch up, then go" style is still there," he said.

"That sounds like San," said Hongjoong. "He was literally there for like 2 minutes," said Jongho. "Said hello, got to say where he was headed next then left," he said. "I told you he wouldn't be a problem," said Yunho as he turned to Xiao. "I never doubted you," said Xiao.

[center ~]

Hongjoong and Jongho eventually had to leave, promising to return as soon as possible when Byungchan started asking for them to come back to the pack house to get some things done before they had to go find Wooyoung, who had been silent for a few months now.

"Say hi to San for me, if you see him," said Yunho as he stood outside with Dongmyeong to send Hongjoong and Jongho off. "We will," said Hongjoong. "Have a safe trip home, and tell Byungchan that I'm fine," said Yunho. Jongho waved before he ran into the forest with Hongjoong following after him.

[center Chapter 6]

Sharing a room with Hwanwoong and Dongmyeong together was an experience that Yunho wasn't expecting at all. Dongmyeong's mood had lifted once he knew that Hwanwoong was back, though everyone still avoided talking about Xion in front of Dongmyeong if they could help it.

Youngjo sported a new scar across his face similar to Dongmyeong's from Dongmyeong's latest lash out when Youngjo was reminiscing about old memories. That had taken both Yunho [i and] Hwanhee to get Dongmyeong off of Youngjo and by then Youngjo was about to start fighting back because he was sick and tired of dealing with Dongmyeong's mood swings.

"It's not like you can do anything to me," spat Dongmyeong as Yunho and Hwanhee kept a hold on him to keep another physical fight from happening, earning a growl from Youngjo. "Kill you I can't do, but putting you in your place I [i can]," growled Youngjo as he stepped forward only to be grabbed by Gunhak and Hwanwoong who got a hold of his arms and dragged him away. "Leave it damn it," said Gunhak. "It's not worth fighting against an ex werewolf hunter right now," he said.

"Damn it," said Xiao as he got between the two of them. "Leave it will you?" He asked. "The both of you," he said. "It's been a [i year] and this is still going on? Stop acting like children," he said. "Me? Acting like a child?" Asked Dongmyeong. "I don't think so," he said. "You don't know the [i hell] I went through those years I thought my brother was [i dead]," he spat.

"Leave it Dongmyeong," said Yunho. "This isn't the place to talk about stuff like that," he said. "I could change right now and you won't be able to stop me," growled Dongmyeong. "Do it, I dare you," said Yunho, a serious tone in his voice. "Youngjo may not want to do anything but you forget who is here for [i you]," he said. That seemed to put Dongmyeong in his place as he let himself collapse against Hwanhee and Yunho, who slightly relaxed their hold on him, with Yunho eyeing Youngjo who was still somewhat tense.

"Get him out of here," said Yunho. "I'll take care of Dongmyeong," he said. Xiao looked at Yunho who nodded in reassurance. "Take him," he said. Hwanwoong and Gunhak dragged Youngjo away and Yunho carefully let go of Dongmyeong while Hwanhee kept a hold on Dongmyeong's arm in case he tried something.

Yunho turned and punched Dongmyeong in the face, earning a grunt from Dongmyeong as he was sent backwards slightly from the blow, with Hwanhee pushing him forward slightly. "The hell was that for?" Spat Dongmyeong as he glared up at Yunho. "For being such an absolute [i idiot]," growled Yunho as he glared down at Dongmyeong. The glaring contest went on for a full minute before Yunho turned and walked away, going out the back door to change and go running to calm down.

"You [i are] an idiot you know," said Xiao as Hwanhee let Dongmyeong go, moving away before helping Dongmyeong stand up. "I have a [i lot] to catch up on it seems," said Hwanhee as he looked at Xiao. "I'll explain it later," said Xiao. "For now I need to go make sure Yunho isn't tearing up the forest," he said, going out the back door to change and find Yunho.

"What the hell did you do to set off one of the most dangerous werewolf hunters alive right now?" Asked Hwanhee as he turned to Dongmyeong. "I didn't do [i anything]," said Dongmyeong as he glared at something on the wall.

[center ~]

Yunho was running for about 10 minutes before he heard footsteps behind him and the smell of wet dog let him know it was Xiao that had come after him. He wasn't sure if he could face the other werewolves without tearing into them immediately anyway, so he was fine with Xiao's large Red Wolf form as he ran over and keep pace with him as they both went running.

It wasn't long before they heard howls, causing Yunho to pause in his running to assess who it was, his head turning towards the sound as Xiao stumbled a bit as he skidded to a stop before walking over to see what was wrong, his ears perking up at the sound of howling.

Yunho's tail started wagging at the sight of familiar wolves, as Jongho's dark brown colored wolf form and Hongjoong's light grey colored wolf form walked into view. Xiao bowed his head at the sight of newcomers, and Jongho and Hongjoong wagged their tails at him. Wooyoung wasn't with them yet it seemed, though Yunho figured that Wooyoung was still in Europe doing more scouting to see who he could find.

Yunho turned to Xiao in a questioning manner and Xiao shrugged, beginning the trek back to the house with Yunho, Jongho and Hongjoong following after him. Hongjoong and Jongho took a slight detour to grab their bags of clothes before following Yunho and Xiao back to the house, the four of them changing and quickly getting dressed once they reached the back deck.

"Good to see you two finally stop by," said Yunho as he turned to Jongho and Hongjoong, a soft smile appearing on his face at the sight of Hongjoong, who was the leader of their subpack, and Jongho who was their youngest. "Kris finally let us come over for a bit," said Jongho as he shrugged, grinning in return at Yunho.

"Welcome back," said Sunyoul as he walked out onto the back deck. "And hello you two," he said, turning to Hongjoong and Jongho. "Hello," said Hongjoong. Jongho nodded in greeting.

"Sorry we couldn't send a message ahead of time," said Hongjoong as he scratched the back of his head. "We figured that Yunho wouldn't attack us immediately, so," he said, shrugging as he let his arm drop to his side. "I'd recognize your wolf forms anywhere, plus I know the others enough to distinguish them from you two," said Yunho.

"I'd trust a werewolf hunter's judgement on other werewolves," said Xiao. "I mean we have Changhyun but he's been gone for a few months now," he added. "How long are you two going to be here?" He asked. "A day at the least," said Hongjoong. "A week at the most, it depends on Yunho at this point," he added.

"Well, that would depend on Xiao at that point, he's the main alpha here," said Yunho. "Stay as long as you need," said Xiao. "Things have been rather tense lately, you may change the atmosphere, who knows," he said, shrugging.

[center ~]

And that was how Dongmyeong got to observe a completely [i different] side to Yunho. One that wasn't burdened by the longing to be near the familiar faces that were his pack. Some put pack before everything else, and considering Yunho's past, Dongmyeong could see why he chose that path.

Jongho and Hwanwoong got along well, their personalities not really clashing, but not really complimenting each other. Dongmyeong was jealous at first, but Jongho cleared that up [i really] quickly when Yunho managed stop Dongmyeong from confronting Jongho and turning it into a full blown fight between them both. They weren't mates, it was more Jongho's overly friendly nature that really drew Hwanwoong in.

"Really though," said Jongho. "[i If] we were mates, it'd be even [i more] obvious than this," he said. "You don't have to worry about a thing, my mate is someone else," he said, causing Dongmyeong to blink in confusion before it dawned on him. "Oh," said Dongmyeong. "Seriously, and you're supposed to be a [i really] good tracker?" Jongho asked with a snicker, going to pat Dongmyeong on the shoulder before walking away, going to find out where Hongjoong went.

"Seriously, I thought it was obvious," said Hwanwoong as he shook his head at Dongmyeong. "It's why I've been so [i casual] around Jongho," said Yunho. "He means no harm, really," he said. "I get it now," Dongmyeong said, sighing.

[center Chapter 5]

Observing Dongmyeong was an experience for Yunho, that was for sure. The way Dongmyeong had reacted at first at the mere [i mention] of Xion's name was something he had taken note of, knowing at some point that Yunho would have to stage an intervention for him.

As much as he would [i love] to come to the conclusion to kill Dongmyeong, Yunho [i did] respect the whole mates thing, and wasn't about to have to kill Hwanwoong if he could help it. If it came down to it, he was sure he'd have to kill them both at some point.

Yunho did notice one thing though, while being here. It seemed that both Xiao [i and] Dongmyeong were keeping an eye on him. Why, he wasn't sure. Gunhak and the others weren't. At least, from what he was aware of. He wasn't the [i best] tracker in the world, that title went to Jongho in their subpack, but he was aware enough to know when someone was keeping an eye on him.

[center ~]

"Take a walk with me?" Asked Gunhak, taking Yunho out of his thoughts as he was sitting on the couch reading a book he had brought with him. "Where are we going?" Asked Yunho as he looked up, making sure to mark the page he was on before setting it down on the coffee table and getting up. "Just out to the pond," said Gunhak.

"Dongmyeong would come with us but he was dragged out grocery shopping with Kogyeol," he said. "As I heard," hummed Yunho as he nodded, going to grab his shoes and put them on. Gunhak walked out the back door after putting on his shoes and Yunho followed after him.

"You really have nothing to do out here huh?" Asked Yunho as they walked down the path to the pond. "Not really," said Gunhak. "Was there anything you liked doing back home?" He asked. "No, not really," said Yunho. "I mostly relaxed at home and waited for the next batch of missions," he said.

"Missions must take up a lot of your time then," said Gunhak as they reached the pond. "No, not really," said Yunho as he kept his gaze trained on the water. "Other than the big 3 year long one I returned from not too long ago I haven't had many [i extremely] long missions," he said. Gunhak hummed, nodding in response as he looked out at the water.

"What got your pack involved with a bunch of 'shifters?" Asked Yunho as he picked up a rock and skipped it across the water. "I was asked to merge packs with them when Wooseok came to us about Keonhee and his... [i Involvement] with Wooseok's brother's mate," he said. "He could tell that we were innocent, and wanted to keep us out of the backlash that it probably caused for Moonbin and his pack," he said. "I see," hummed Yunho.

"It's probably still causing them hell to this day, but Moonbin was quick to set things straight, once word got out that 'shifter law was in play and Keonhee simply tried to break it, by getting involved," said Gunhak. "We cut ties with him to not get in anymore trouble than we could and just laid low," he said. "We're still involved with hunters, but only after Wooseok proved that we signed a merging agreement, which involved everyone at the time," he said.

"Rocky and Eunwoo were calling for your heads weren't they?" Asked Yunho. "No," said Gunhak. "I was there to sign Keonhee's death warrant and they [i knew] that I knew what he was doing was wrong," he said. "Seoho is out there somewhere but he's been laying low this whole time," he said.

"Do you think Seoho was involved with it or was he just dragged into it?" Asked Yunho. "I don't know honestly," said Gunhak. "It was hard to tell with him," he added. "I hope he wasn't intentionally involved," he said, sighing. "I've lost too many people, and I don't want to lose another one despite the fact that Seoho did leave," he said.

"You'd feel like you failed as pack alpha?" Asked Yunho. Gunhak nodded. "Makes sense," said Yunho. "I don't know that feeling since I'll never be a pack alpha but I think I understand the feeling of just feeling like you've really failed at something," he said.

[center ~]

"They told me you'd be out here," said Dongmyeong as he walked over with Hwanwoong who had just returned from his mission with Hwanhee. "Hey," said Gunhak as he turned his head to look at them. "Welcome back Hwanwoong," he added. Hwanwoong smiled slightly, putting his hands in his pants pockets.

Yunho was still focused on the water, but acknowledged their presence with a wave. "You alright over there Yunho?" Asked Dongmyeong. "Fine," hummed Yunho as he focused on something in the water, spotting a fish swimming around. "Huh, I didn't know that this pond had fish," he said, leaning forward for a closer look. Gunhak had gone to see, spotting the fish. "I think there's an underground waterway leading to the pond," he said.

"It's been quite a while since I've seen any fish," said Dongmyeong as he walked over to look at the water. "But I think you're right," he said. "It looks like it dips over there," he said, pointing to a spot on the other side of the pond. "So it's possible," he said.

"No fox today?" Yunho asked suddenly, turning to Dongmyeong who blinked in confusion before it dawned on him. "I guess not," said Dongmyeong as he looked around. "How long were you out here?" He asked. "A good hour or so," said Gunhak as he shrugged. "I'd expect him to show up if you're here but he hasn't," he said. "How odd," hummed Dongmyeong.

"Well, come on," said Hwanwoong. "Kogyeol bought everyone dinner, and knowing how everyone is, we may end up without food," he said. That got everyone to move and Hwanwoong watched as Yunho and Gunhak rushed back to the house.

"There he is," said Dongmyeong as he spotted the fox walk into view as Yunho and Gunhak disappeared from sight. "Too many people huh?" He asked, bending down and handing it a piece of jerky before standing and watching the fox walk off with the jerky in its mouth. "Let's go then," he said, heading home with Hwanwoong following after him.

Yunho decided to explore like he had said he would after breakfast, getting changed into more presentable clothes and his favorite hoodie before heading out the backdoor, shouting that he was going for a walk. He wasn't expecting anyone to join him, but he knew someone would come looking for him eventually if he didn't return in a few hours.

San walked into view after a few minutes and went to walk beside Yunho, the both of them enjoying the comfortable silence for a few minutes before Yunho decided to speak. "I thought you left already," said Yunho as he turned his head to look at San. "No, not yet," said San as he shook his head. "I'm not needed anywhere yet anyway," he added. "I see," said Yunho as he nodded.

"A nice area," said San as he looked around. "Yeah," said Yunho. "So much land to get lost in without running into the humans, reminds me of the pack house," he said. "It's expected up there though," pointed out San. "Of course," said Yunho.

Footsteps alerted them to someone else's presence, and Yunho and San turned around to see Dongmyeong walking over with Xiao. "Oh, it's the werewolf from last night," said San. "San, behave," said Yunho as he slapped San over the back of his head earning a whine from San as he rubbed the back of his head. "Oi," San said with a scowl. "Yes San, behave yourself," Dongmyeong said, shaking his head in amusement as the corners of Xiao's lips turned up in a smile.

"Come to join us for a walk?" Asked Yunho. "Yeah, for a bit," said Xiao. "If you or San don't mind of course," he added. Yunho turned to San who shrugged. "Sure," said San. "Let's go then," said Yunho, waiting until Xiao and Dongmyeong walked over to stand beside him before continuing his walk with San with Xiao and Dongmyeong following after him.

"So where's the rest of the pack been?" Asked Yunho. "The other 'shifters other than Sunyoul, Kogyeol, Hwanhee, Changhyun and I are doing separate things with other hunting teams at the moment, I'm sure you've heard of what we do," said Xiao. "Yeah," said Yunho. "Changhyun updates Wontak whenever he can to tell him where the rest of your pack went," he said.

"Youngjo and Hwanwoong are with Hwanhee at the moment, and Changhyun and Hwanhee are doing missions," said Dongmyeong. "I was with Hwanhee for a bit but I had to head home when Wontak asked me to meet him," he said. "I see," said Yunho.

"What were you doing before coming here?" Asked Dongmyeong. "I was home," said Yunho. "Byungchan had basically demanded for Wontak to let me have a break so Wontak gave me one," he said. "I had just come back from like a 3 year long mission in Asia so I needed to just be home for a bit," he said. "Damn," said Xiao.

"I remember my missions getting that long a few times," said Dongmyeong. "It's much easier if you don't have a pack, but it's harder on the hunters who belong to a pack because the pack can lose that hunter at anytime basically," he said.

"It sucks," said San. "I wasn't there for the whole thing and I wish I was," he said, sighing. "Hey, I made it back didn't I?" Asked Yunho as he patted San on the shoulder. Dongmyeong observed the way the two brothers interacted with each other with a slight tilt of his head before turning to Xiao who shook his head.

"Well, at least this will be your last mission," said Xiao. "Wontak did say you wouldn't go out like those who retire apparently," he added. "Something about being important to the rest of the pack I'm in or something," said Yunho as he shrugged.

"You're in Kris's pack aren't you?" Asked Dongmyeong. "I am, I'm under Byungchan who controls the subpack I'm in," said Yunho. "Byungchan's the general right now on his side of the pack," he added. "Though most people know of Seungwoo who led our side of the pack," he said.

"Well, I can tell which side of the pack you belonged to, considering the icy exterior you carried," said Dongmyeong. "But anytime San is here I can see the ice melt," he said. "You've run into the others then?" Asked Yunho. "Mostly Seungwoo," said Dongmyeong. "I met him a year ago when they asked for my team and I," he said. Yunho hummed in response.

They ended their walk at the pond, with the fox appearing for a few minutes and Dongmyeong was able to give it a piece of jerky before it headed off to whereever it went. "I think it's getting used to our presence," said Yunho as he watched the fox walk away. "I doubt it," said San. "I was here yesterday after hunting and didn't see a fox, this is the first time I've seen it," he said. Yunho hummed in response, turning to the water and bending down to pick up a rock before skipping it across the water.

"No one believes the fox even exists until they come out here with Dongmyeong," said Xiao. "I always have food," Dongmyeong said, scratching the back of his head in embarrassment. "Though I had a different fox for a time, this one's a different one from the one from before," he said bending down to pick up a rock before straightening and skipping it across the water.

"Well," said San as he stepped away from the group. "I'm going hunting then I'm heading off," he said. "I am needed elsewhere afterall," he added. "At least try and visit again soon," said Yunho as he turned his head to look at San. "No problem," said San as he nodded, turning and sprinting off to hunt. "Bye San!" Dongmyeong called after him. Xiao shook his head in exasperation at San's antics before looking back out at the water.

"It was a nice hike," said Yunho. "We spent the whole day out here it seems," said Dongmyeong as he looked down at his phone to check the time. "I'm surprised no one has tried coming to look for us yet," he said. "I told them not to bother us unless it was really important," said Xiao. "Perks of being the main alpha," Dongmyeong said with a snort, earning a snicker from Yunho as Xiao sighed in annoyance at Dongmyeong, shaking his head.

"I never got to ask but," said Dongmyeong as he hesitated a bit, shifting slightly as he looked down at the ground. "Where'd you get the scars on your body from?" He asked, turning to look at Yunho. "I saw that question coming a mile away," Yunho breathed out as he sighed, shaking his head. "I don't want to tell you yet," he said. "It's not like I won't tell you," he added. "I just don't want to tell you yet," he said. "Alright," said Dongmyeong.

"Let's head back then," said Xiao. "Before they really start coming to look for us," he added. "Sure," said Yunho. "You got your curiosity fulfilled and got to spend the day with San," said Dongmyeong. "It's funny because he never stayed this long before," said Yunho as he turned and started walking back with Xiao and Dongmyeong. "Probably because you were so relaxed with us," said Xiao. "Probably," said Yunho as he nodded.

Yunho opened his eyes when he heard movement, turning his head slightly to see Dongmyeong get up from his bed he was sharing with Hwanwoong and look over to see that he was awake. "Did I wake you? Sorry," said Dongmyeong. Yunho shook his head, sitting up and turning to face Dongmyeong.

"I was going to head out, if you wanted to join me," said Dongmyeong. "At 2 in the morning?" Asked Yunho as he grabbed his phone to check the time. "Yep, 2 in the morning," he said, turning back to Dongmyeong. "Hwanwoong's not going to be back for another week or so," said Dongmyeong. "It makes it hard for me to sleep," he said. "Mates?" Asked Yunho. Dongmyeong nodded. "We don't openly show that we are though, due to our profession," he said.

"Makes sense," said Yunho as he got up, going to put a shirt on before nodding to Dongmyeong. "Let's go then," he said. Dongmyeong shrugged, grabbing his phone and heading out of the room. They both put on shoes before going to sit outside under the gazebo on the back porch. Dongmyeong sat in what was Xion's recliner but he now claimed as his own and Yunho laid down in the loveseat with his legs hanging off one end.

"So this is what Xiao meant by you coming out here some nights," said Yunho as he looked over at Dongmyeong. "Haven't been outside for a late night talk session in a few weeks though," hummed Dongmyeong. "I don't like coming out here by myself," he said. "Why not ask one of the others?" Asked Yunho. "I don't want to bother them, and usually Hwanwoong's been out here with me but he's been out with Hwanhee for missions and things," he said. Yunho hummed in response.

"Did you do this when you were home?" Asked Dongmyeong. "No," said Yunho. "I usually head out late if my brother says he's coming over for a few minutes," he said. "Ah, I see," said Dongmyeong. "Does he really not stay around for longer than five minutes?" He asked. "Yeah, he hates people that much," Yunho said with a shake of his head.

"What's the reasoning behind it?" Asked Dongmyeong. "San used to be more extroverted as we grew up," said Yunho. "But after getting abandoned by our home pack and left to the vampires it kind of made him lose his trust with everyone except me," he said. "There are very few vampires he trusts, and even [i fewer] werewolves," he said. "I don't know about the 'shifters and animal-humans though, he doesn't interact with them unless he has to," he said.

"You're the older twin then?" Asked Dongmyeong. Yunho nodded. "Were you the older twin between you and Xion?" He asked. Dongmyeong took a shaky breath, gripping onto the arms of the recliner to force himself to remain seated. "Y-Yes," he breathed, shaking his head to calm himself down.

"Still a touchy subject huh?" Asked Yunho as he remained in a relaxed position though Dongmyeong knew Yunho would spring into action at the slightest hint of hostility or any movement made towards him with the intention to harm or kill him. "Could say that," said Dongmyeong, earning a hum from Yunho as he focused on the forest in front of him.

"Someone here?" Asked Dongmyeong as he too looked towards the forest, seeing no one. "Thought it might be San but he went to meet up with someone in Boston, last I checked anyway," said Yunho. "It's too early to tell if it's anyone from my pack yet or not," he said, sitting up.

"Caught me," called San as he walked into view, causing Yunho to scoff as he got up, walking over to the railing and lean against it. "What do you want San?" He asked. "Was trying to find Yeosang but I guess I got here too late," said San as he put his hands in his pockets. "Xiao said he was here a few days ago with Mingi," said Yunho as he shrugged.

Dongmyeong got up and walked over, going to stand beside Yunho as he leaned against the railing. "So this is San huh?" He asked. "And this is the werewolf I've heard so much about?" Scoffed San as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Oi, leave him be San," Yunho said, scowling. "Don't you have somewhere to be?" He asked. "Yeah yeah," said San as he turned, waving before sprinting off.

"He's not what I expected," said Dongmyeong as Yunho shook his head at San's antics. "You'll get used to it," said Yunho as he had a rare smile on his face. "It's nice to see he showed up though," he said, chuckling some. "He never shows up at a place he doesn't know unless I'm here," he said. "Makes sense," said Dongmyeong as he nodded.

"Couldn't resist a late night talk session huh?" Asked Sunyoul as he walked outside after the sun rose to spot Yunho and Dongmyeong back in their spots. "Not when I have company," said Dongmyeong as he shrugged. "Right," Sunyoul said, shaking his head. "Xiao wants you to help him make breakfast," he said before turning and going inside. Dongmyeong and Yunho got up, going inside to go help with breakfast.

"Morning you two," said Xiao as he focused on the stove. "Yunho start the coffee maker, and what everyone wants is on the paper stuck to the cabinet above the coffee maker," he said. "Got it," said Yunho as he went to get everyone's coffee cups and started making their coffee.

"What's the plan today?" Asked Xiao as Dongmyeong helped him make breakfast. "Explore? There's so much land," said Yunho as he put the finished cups of coffee off to the side as everyone slowly made their way into the kitchen to get their coffee and sit down at the kitchen table and kitchen island. "I don't think San left the area yet so I may run into him while out there," he said.

"San visited last night?" Asked Xiao as he blinked, turning to Dongmyeong who nodded in confirmation. "Just for a few minutes, he was looking for Yeosang," said Dongmyeong. "I see," said Xiao.

"We had a vampire visit last night?" Asked Gunhak. "For a few minutes, San's known for doing this," said Xiao. "Leave him be," he said. "If he wanted to do harm to us he would've done so by [i now] at least," he said. "For once I agree," said Kogyeol. "Some vampires can't be like the ones in Europe," he said, earning a headshake from Xiao. "No, not everyone are like them," said Xiao.
