He’s a young detective [i YC/Male]—one of the good ones—and when an undercover bust went bad three years ago, his wife and unborn child were killed. He swore he’d never love again, even though he was married young right out of high school. Then his old partner retires, only to be replaced by a wide-eyed, spunky rookie, Dawn [i MC], whose seemingly impossible innocence and zest for life remind him life is worth living again. This could only end in disaster…right? Dare he makes the first move toward new love?

**Just FYI, I was looking to do some writing and I found this prompt online and I thought it'd be interesting to do with a partner. It is not my plot and I did not take it from anyone on this site!**

[font "Serif" [b "Just look!"] He held the file in his hand, waving it in front of his boss' face.

"Brad, I've told you before. Get off the case. You're related and you can't be assigned to it anymore. We've got the best guys on it." He continued to ignore his pleas and didn't even have the audacity to look him in the face.

[b "Except you don't, otherwise there would be more happening. This would've been solved already. Just look at the damn file I have."] He begged.

"God damnit." He stood up from his desk, snatching the folder out of his hand. "If you will go about your life normal and let the men do their work, I'll make sure this gets to them. For now, you have a new partner coming in. Don't drag her into your mess."

That hurt. He didn't see his wife and unborn child being murdered as a 'mess'. All he wanted was to seek justice for what happened that night. He was so close to closing his biggest case yet. It took him two years to get to where he was. The head poncho made sure to put a stop to that. He'd come home to the apartment his wife and him were renting. He walked into the house, hanging his jacket up and calling out for her. She usually greeted him at the door and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Except for that day.

He had searched where she usually was - the kitchen, living room and their bedroom. He noticed how quiet the house was and remembered slipping his gun off his waist. The door to the nursery they were decorating for their unborn child was cracked open. He'll never forget what he walked in on. His pregnant wife lying in a pool of her own blood. The rug beneath her was soaked and wasn't even thick enough to hold the amount of blood she lost. Some of the furniture in the nursery was knocked over like she had struggled. Her eyes were still open and she had a note in her hand.

He crumpled the paper in his hand and threw it to the side. He held his wife close to him. Bradley wasn't one to cry often but here he was, sobbing over his dead family. He knew exactly who was responsible and he was going to make him pay.

Unfortunately, it did put him on a break. The death of his wife was tragic. He wasn't himself for months and still doesn't consider himself to be. He was taken off the case and the new guys were put back on square one. It was like the death of an officers family wasn't enough motivation.

He grabbed two cups of coffee, filling both of them up and placing a lid over them. He grabbed some sugar and cream, not for him but his new partner. He had heard they were quite a character but wasn't given much detail. That, and his mind had been taken up with other matters. He figured this would be a nice welcome and to start the day off right with a cup of Joe.

He walked over to his desk and sat his cup on the coaster. His partner's desk was across from his and he placed the coffee on the desk. He took the sugar and cream out of his hoodie pocket and placed it next to the coffee. He sat in his desk and started looking at the updates on his wife's case.]
